How to use Patterns in Studio One. The Pattern Editor is a step-sequencer that can be used for drums, beats, and melodies.
#PreSonus #StudioOne
I am using Studio One 4.5 in this video
Patterns are a totally different way to create in Studio One. Instead of using the Piano Roll for MIDI, you can use the Pattern Editor to program your drums (or synth, or piano, etc...) in the step-sequencer. And once you create a Pattern, you can use it all over the timeline. You can create variations of your Patterns very easily as well.

If you have ever used FL Studio, you will instantly understand how Patterns work. It's almost like having the Channel Rack from FL Studio in Studio One.
FL Studio - The Ultimate Guide to Understanding FL Studio
• FL Studio - The Ultima...
Patterns make it easy to come up with ideas and beats, and then quickly assemble them into a song.
And of course you can use Patterns with all of your drum instruments, like BFD3, Superior Drummer 3, Steven Slate Drums, and more. You will even see a readout of each drum for each lane in the Pattern Editor. That makes it much quicker to program your drums.
Plus, you can use it will all of your synths, pianos, or even strings to quickly create melodies, arpeggios, and more.
In this video we'll cover everything you need to know about Patterns in Studio One.
You'll see how to create Patterns, create variations, assemble your Patterns on the timeline, use automation, and even save your Patterns for re-use.

The Major Problem with patterns is not being able to use the 'groove' editor with them only static swing. As a house producer this is essential to me. You can use the groove editor with the Midi drum editor though. Presonus needs to implement this because patterns are very good otherwise i'm stuck with the drum editor

Instead of going to the menu, or right click menu, just hold the Alt key on PC and double click left mouse button to insert a pattern block where you want it or simply create a macro button for Insert Pattern that you can then assign to a shortcut key. That's much faster.

Yes, Just load an instance of Impact XT and right click the pads that you would like to change. You could also just use the blank XT format if you don't want to use any factory presets.

Hello, May I ask a question please : Whan you have a signature in 6/8, why the pattern mode shows a pattern for 4/4? that would be a good feature request so the pattern view would match with the time signature

You're glad you switch to S1? any regrets? I'm planning on doing that.
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say I've switched. I still have and use Pro Tools when I need to. But Studio One has become my go to for sure. It is really awesome. It does need some improvements, like the ability to extract multiple audio tracks from a video clip. Pro Tools does this easily while it can't be done in S1. Although I'm sure not many people need that function. One of the things I really love about S1 is the FX chains. I can take my voice track for a KZbin video, throw it in S1, drag my 'benoni SM7B voice' FX Chain onto the track, make minimal adjustments, and render. Then throw the audio into an NLE and start editing. It's so fast. Also really love the Patterns and Drum Editor. So much better than trying to use a normal piano roll to program drums. I don't regret buying S1 at all.
@MustacheVerra
@MustacheVerra 5 жыл бұрын
@@BenoniStudio Thanks for taking the time. I'm not surprised you like FX chain as a lot of protools users mention this one. Studio One seems to have the best workflow overall. That's why I'm switching. I can always go back to Cubase if it doesn't work out as planned. I might also switch to Reaper if they add chord track v.6.

At some point in time, I think with V4, all of a sudden S1 got really, really deep. It has been advancing at a rapid clip. And all good things too. I've been there since S1 V2 and it is simply stunning how it has matured. It started from a whole new code base by the german audiomeisters who cut their teeth on Cubase. But under the sponsorship of Presonus, they have gone balls out in developing this codebase It is now mature, but solid. Cakewalk, Cubase, even ProTools, are too rickety a codebase for future sucess. They are going to start looking very old in the near future. But of course, my opinion is just that. Your opinion and experiences might be different.

Great stuff, just got studio 5. is there a way of routing each drum hit to a dedicated mixer/console channel, or does the whole pattern go into one mixer/console channel. if not then i guess the other way is to have a separate track for each drum hit but the the word tedious comes into play here.

Why does no video explain the Steps and Resolution relationship better?
@zendakk
@zendakk 4 жыл бұрын
This is common to any pattern editor / step sequencer in any DAW: Resolution is the note length each step represents, and steps is the amount of steps for that specific pattern. So resolution and steps both at 16 means the pattern will be one bar/measure long, since it's 16 x 1/16 notes. 8 steps at resolution 16 would be half a bar, 8 steps at res. 4 would be 2 bars (8 quarter notes).. etc etc
