What's your choice for drum programming in Studio One, Sample One, or Impact? UPDATE: You can actually scroll through samples and stack them in Impact, just like in Sample One. As long as you have your samples in the same folder, Impact also has arrows near the sample window for you to go back and forth between them. For stacking, simply highlight both samples in the browser and drag them into one pad. Lastly, change the layer mode on Impact to 'Stack". Thanks to our community member @waynevdk1 for pointing this out!

I actually use impact more than sample one. I did few pitch shifting with Automation. Also, I use impact with preset almost all the time. But I want to try a little bit more sample one to work more on my sampling production. Nice video as always.

Good video. A few things you mentioned specific to Sample One that are also available in Impact - scrolling through samples in the same folder using the arrow buttons; and also layering multiple samples on the same pad. In terms of arrangement using the pattern editor - you can create/copy existing pattern variations from the sequencer and then in the arrangement view, select the variations you want using the little drop down icon. One last thing - choke groups, not sure you can do that in Sample One if you're into drum programming.

I have no idea why I never attempted to drag multiple samples into one pad before Lol. Thanks Wayne!

Impact: 1 Can't repitch: Yes, you can, in semitones and or cents. 2. Extra steps: not really, you can create presets. Also, you'll probably don't want a separate channel per pad, but a separate channel per pad type: 1 for kicks, 1 for snares and so forth. 3. What would be the use case? The idea of the Impact, just like the one of NI Battery 4 and most drum plugins, is 1 track. If you want multiple tracks, simply don't use it. 4. You can't layer sounds in ImpactXT. False. Drag & drop multiple sounds on the same pad, then change Layer Mode to Stack. The real limitation is that you can't align them beyond choosing their start/end point, so padding samples in front would have to be done before drag & dropping in Impact XT.

That's how I work 1 channel per pad type. Kicks, snares, hats etc., percussion. Usually no more than 4 to 5 channels.

I don’t think he was giving out inaccurate information necessarily. He was sharing his preference to use Sample one over Impact. He knows there’s a pitch nob in Impact xt. It’s quicker for him to pich his drums in piano roll using Sample One. He just didn’t mention those two things that he likes to do in Sample One that you can also do in Imact xt. He probably knew but just moved on to Sample One. I learned something about impact XT that I’ve been trying to figure out for years in this video.

These are all good reasons for me to continue using EZDrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3 instead of Impact, or Sample One which I do use from time to time. And in my opinion, all editing can be done much more easily in Toontrack's drumming programs than it is in Studio One's programs. And they are much easier to bring into Studio One too, and have each channel quickly assigned to a drum sound.

I had Studio One 4 years now. I just bought the ATOM, can't wait to learn everything about it. I've worked on Fl Studios and MPC DAW and MPC X as a controller. I'm writing sync/film music these days, I write on Studio One! I would use them both. Impact Xt for drum sounds, percs. But the 808's and other hats or snares I would use Sample One.

Good video, at least you get right into it rather than waffling for 10 mins! You can actually tune the sounds on the individual pads in Impact XT as well. You could put the same snare sound for example on three pads and tune them all differently. Then they will play their respective tunings when they are triggered.

Hello! good video, for convenience and habit I use the sample more, although to create drums more easily so as not to lose the idea I use the impact, to create loops and things like that... something I want to add is that in the impact it is possible correct the pitch, only it is a bit more cumbersome, if you work in pattern, in the bottom left in the options you can add the pitch control to modify it =)

Its fine to leave it off for drums bro, cause if its on it timestretches and degrades the sample . If you are using it for melodic one shots then yes it could be better to timestrech them so that the notes are consistent.

Can’t you just explode to tracks to convert a midi sequence into tracked midi? I do all this in maschine and then just master in S1. Bought S1 to simplify tracking vocals over my beats. S1 really needs to implement better Maschine interplay.

Cool video. But in Impact, since you can use individual channels, couldn't you just stick a pitch shifter on the channels that you want to pitch? You could even automate it, right?
@ImIvanCalderon Жыл бұрын
Sure, but that’s still a lot more work than just moving a MIDI note in the piano roll.
@bryanstrom812 Жыл бұрын
@@ImIvanCalderon Thanks for response! Now, I do want to say that maybe it's not really more work. There's 1 or 2 clicks the piano roll way. But in S1, it's 2 clicks to pick a range, and you can drag the cursor up between the points to pick your pitch shift amount. And that doesn't seem harder to me (but I haven't done this yet). Also, I use impact for drums, so I would only be making small, subtle moves. So that's different than the Sample One example with only one sample being manipulated, to be fair.
