Studio One Stock Plugin Series: Expander

Back again with the next installment of the stock plugin series. This time, the expander.
Expansion is a great dynamic processing tool that has a lot of different uses. This video shows how expansion can be used on live drums to really bring down the mic bleed in between hits, but you can also dial in settings to compressed sounds to increase the dynamic range of you feel something g was over compressed.
Not many people know, but expansion is to compression, as gating is to limiting. They work in very similar ways, but in the opposite direction.

Mr. Tim, always doing such a good job. So an expander is to a gate, what a compressor is to a limiter? A more subtle/gentle version of its associated dynamics tool? I’ve always looked at expanders with a dumb perplexed look on my face. Like, can’t I just dial in a gate to behave the same way? What is this thing? Why choose it instead of a gate? Tim, making me a better person every day.

Great video sir. Can you please tell me how can I modulate (lfo) any parameter in studio one without automation? Like Modulating High pass of Eq by lfo. It would ne great if you can tell this

You'll do yourself a huge service by sitting down, and experimenting with compressors and dynamic processors. Really push them, listen to what they are doing to the beginning and end of the sound? What are they doing to the top and bottom of it? You'll train your ears and get better!
