I personally really like that a lot of the time Prime's melee weapon of choice is an axe, especially when his axe looks like it could be easily used for purposes other than violence. Gives me a feeling that he would rather not be at war, especially when paired with Megatron having a mace, one of the more violent choice for melee weapon.

I swear, Hasbro completely forgot what's the point of studio series. This shouldn't look like the simplified, kids accessible toy. This should be the most accurate (apart from a Masterpiece) version of the character there is: otherwise, why make it a studio series. And that includes the poor excuse of an alt mode. It feels like the designers confused which figures they were designing (the leg transformation feels like it belongs to the mainline version). I don't care if it's heftier than most deluxes (is it? I don't actually know), I've handled some exceptionally designed figures in that class that prove it can be complex and "nice" (bbm wheeljack, tlk hot rod, reactivate bumblebee, to name a few). And the worst thing about this is that since this is STUDIO SERIES, we're probably not gonna get a more accurate overall better version anytime soon (except maybe that takara gimmicky one, but that ain't accessible in europe)

Honestly studio series has become a cash grab. There’s gonna now be two releases of the same character, from the same movie, within the same time, when all the effort could go straight to their mainline. And as you said, why put it on studio series when it’s not following its goal. I’m still waiting for my bay protoform troops there and instead ss is getting filled with the latest content, I won’t be surprised if they start a speculated comics universe there or put the activation in gamer edition subline

I think the panels that swing around the legs are kind of neat. They thicken up the vehicle bed a bit. In robot mode it hides the handles the arms use, and they do a good job of hiding those thick tabs on the inside of the legs.

It's my birthday today 🎉 I got this and the 86 Bumblebee a few days ago during my birthday toy hunt. Great video, I love this Optimus. I think it's great. The weird grey plastic color doesn't bother me nearly as much in person, and that's the only thing that i don't really like about it. Other than that i really like it and my hype for the movie is even higher after getting this figure.

I actually like the smallest things this guy does. The headsculpt is Prime, but still unique, and as a manchild the fact his smokestacks can be lil blasters just makes me happy. Not so happy with the monoskirt like you said, and the grill cannons that go NOWHERE in bot mode.

2:16 it’s kind of why I thought the proportions on this thing were trash because of that mono skirt, but I remedied that by taking off the skirt cutting the two pieces off leaving the big piece in the middle and glued it down now it works like a regular skirt

I think the reason the color scheme works for me is because even though the arms and legs have a sort of dingy yellow, the red and blue also arnt as bright so it fits surprisingly well. Yellowing usually sucks because it darkens parts on otherwise bright figures and stands out like a sore thumb, but here its clearly intentional. It also makes him look a little more "battle worn" to me, which fits for an Optimus at the start of the war. The gaps I could do without but at least the ones on the legs allow for weapons storage (idk why so many primes dont have a place to properly store their axe). Also he's deluxe price instead of voyager like most primes so that's a plus.

I don't think it's so much the interplay between the colors that matters, but just the fact that the color looks gross to the touch at base level. The Mainline Optimus does the same weapon storage while having a better alamode. Most deluxes handle transformation, and altmode better than this.

While I do understand the complaints about this figure, I still actually kind of love it. I mostly enjoy the look of it, I find it fun to pose, I’m fine with its accessories, and I do have fun with the transformation. But as you said there are aspects that could have, and should have been done better. Starting with the grey color, I think they were trying to match the color that Optimus has on the box art; which shows that his forearms, smokestacks, legs, and waist have this sort of goldish-silver color to them. However the plastic color used clearly needed a bit more gold coloring in order to match what is on the box. I don’t particularly mind the color that’s on the figure now, but I definitely would have preferred that it look more like what’s shown on the box. As for the leg transformation, I’m actually fine with it. All I’d say is that the waist should have had an extra hinge so that it could go into the body of the truck more in order to make it look less gappy. My main issue is with the arm transformation. For that aspect I would say they should have made the forearms a bit larger and longer so that the hands could flip in, and then have the tabbing port on the side of the arms rather than under them. Then there’s the skirt piece. Now even though the skirt piece on my copy actually holds on pretty well, they definitely should have come up with a better skirt posability design other than that as it does look ugly when you move it all the way up. Though outside of all of that I’d say that I wish the backpack transformed more, or at least tabbed in for the robot mode. Again, I do love the figure, but for me it is one of those fun but flawed figures that did need more work done to it.

See I actually like the Arm Transformation, though I think there is one joint in them that should have been pinned. I find my backpack holds position quite well honestly. I like how the shoulders/upper part of the arms transform, my main gripe was that the forearms don’t do a whole lot, which leaves the hands being visible in truck mode. what i did with my copy was i cut the skirt into thirds, drilled a hole where it attaches and glued the center piece down in between the legs. then i used the hole i drilled to add a pin so the 2 side parts wouldnt fall out. this makes it look a LOT better and still allows it to transform

Aside from feeling that the leg tires panel switching from the outer side to the inner side is unnecessary as it looks fine without that transformation step, and the monok skirt being a separate piece that could pop off, I dislike the yellowing gray. Sure, I know that it's the movie aesthetic choice for the gray to look yellowed. But on the Studio Series toy, it doesn't look good. That's why I prefer the solid gray plastic mainline version of Orion Pax for TF1 more so than this Studio Series version. Also the mainline energon axe designed to look like he came out of the palm of Orion Pax's hand looks cooler than the Studio Series blue clear plastic axe.

On he onscreen model, the forearms form the front bumper, so I don't see why the designer couldn't have come up with a joint that could've accomplished that, given the hollow space at the front where the forearms could've stored. Just have the hands do "narcissi-wrists," and double or triple hinge the forearms to form the front bumper, and clip the faux grille into that. Yeah, I reckon this figure was rushed, or "unstarted" as you put it.

According to yolopark, the cogless (which is definitely a closer build to the typical orion desgin) version is about 5cm smaller and noticeable less bulky than the cog versions. It seems takara's optimus are probably going to be the best Other have mentioned that the designers were told that his silver is more yellow-ish in the movie, but i think something simular to spider man suits in games. They can sometimes look either red or orange depending on the type of screen, so i think that same phenomenon occurred

I got this for my birthday and I could careless how bad it is not because it was my birthday gift but because I think the design and esthetic cool looking. I do think the way how he holds the matrix is just weird it's like wearing boxing gloves and trying to hold your drink without crushing the cup. I didn't transform it yet cause I'd like to wait for months until I transform it, idk why it's just a habit.

I own this and thought this roast was accurate and hilarious. Somehow, I still enjoy it in the context of being a deluxe, something about being able to look up 90 degrees and the stiffness of the knees and hips with the ankle tilt does it for me. But the color choice is hard to defend, as is the moving crotch piece, which I really wish was pinned in somehow. Instead every few times I open it it pops off. One of these days I’ll just leave it off lol. Anyway thanks and keep it up 👍

Tbf the slightly yellow gray is more movie accurate than the solid gray of the mainline version. My main gripe with him is that the legs are a pain in the ass, the knees are stiff & the ball joints make it borderline impossible to move side to side

The qc on my tf one Optimus primes matrix was really borked as it just broke the first time I tried to make him hold it, so tbh either shoudlve just gone with the opening hands or the same way the mainline did

The design reminds me of the "Parallax armor" upgrade kit for the Classics 2006 Voyager figure. Weird head, monoboob chest is exactly the same, monoskirt that comes off far too easily, and the smokestacks turn into guns... Is the matrix supposed to be in his chest in the box, because all the copies I've seen don't have it there so I'm not sure if theyre supposed to be in the box or someone stole them. I appreciate their intentions with making him a deluxe so he's affordable but clearly he needed the extra budget of a voyager...

well in my seires, orian pax is a pickup truck and optimus prime is twice the size, and is a tripple changer with jet and semi truck alt modes and he can use his trailer as a shield and the jet modes wings as a jetpack. is that upgrade enough

Something tells me that they might reissue this fig again in another A level wave and fix the "yellowing" issue. Yea, he does look slightly dingy in animation, but this figure takes it way too far. Make him purely silver, give him the normal face, and boom. Easy money and I'll buy the mold. I'll probably end up getting this because its somehow being hard to find, but hey
