Gene - When I reorganized my office, I got a stand/sit desk and for the sitting part I got a gaming chair... a DXRACER, because I figured who sits more than gamers?! I've had it for two years and still love it! (It has a built in ottoman that slides out for those multi-day, heavy deadlines...) Not to mention people always compliment it, because it looks good..."Hey chair! you look dope!"

Chair: I would recommend Herman Miller Aeron, that I'm using at office and recently bought for home. They are pretty expensive, but you can find *really* good deals on almost new/refurbished on eBay, and these chairs will last you forever. Before buying make sure you select the right size (they have 3 sizes).

I'd second this chair. Yes it's very expensive, but you only get 1 spine and if you spend any significant time in it it's worth taking care of your body.

Awesome chair recommendation: Herman miller aeron. I just got the stool version a few weeks ago, it's awesome. As for the desk.. I built my own with a custom piece of reclaimed black walnut and kee klamp pipes, and put it on locking casters, so I can rearrange my small studio for videos. Desk is 24in x 60in with 6 shelves. I love my studio.

If you use a monitor mount, use a clamp style and sandwich the table with scraps of hardwood. That desktop will break supporting a wide monitor like you have. Loving the new space.

Gene - I have that same desk and I used a monitor mount for two 24" monitors. After a while, the weight of the mount plus weight of the monitors will create enough pressure to crack or dent the position of where the mount is on the desk. When I removed the monitors and the mount from the desk, it created this circular dent on the desk. I suggest to reinforce some padding before you install the mount onto the desk. And it's very easy to scratch that table top, but as long as you can spit out $50 every time to buy a new one with no problem, then you should be okay.

Hey Gene! Love the channel. One thing about the Linnmon desk, it is hollow with a honeycomb structure for strength (explains why it's so light). I heard you mention using a monitor mount so be careful where you mount and how heavy the monitor is. I own a Linnmon desk and I used a single monitor arm for my 27-inch monitor. The clamp managed to crack the desk (the monitor only weighs 13-lbs. and I covered up the crack with a desk pad, lol). I didn't want to risk the monitor falling so I opted for a wood riser instead.

I think it would pretty cool to remove the backdrops and paint and do some shelves in the background for this office!! Sweet desk top!!
@abhijeetkrishna4 жыл бұрын
Hopefully this is not too late - the Linnmon table tops are particleboard with paper filling, so they aren't as strong as solid wood and thus not recommended for a monitor arm/mount. You could make it work by installing pieces of wood in-between the table and monitor clamp to spread the load, however may not be worth risking an expensive monitor. Otherwise, great to see the studio taking shape!

Love the setup. Thanks for the great idea on the standing desk with an IKEA "pick your own size" top. Certainly never thought of that combo. Makes me wonder what I can do at my house. And by "what I can do at my house" I mean how can I spend money.....LOL...I'm so poor thanks to all you internet people. Quick side note. I had a long piece of Ethernet cable ran from one side of the house to the other through the crawl space under the house. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Now I have strong uniform Wifi and physical ports in basically all parts of the house.

A few days in, I don't know if Gene will see this or if someone has already said it, but: Those Linnmon desktops bow in the middle over time, it's happened to me twice! I would recommend either keeping a majority of the weight to the sides, putting a middle leg on the back or otherwise bracing the middle.

Hey Gene I have the same desk and watch out with mounting the monitor!! It might be cool to mount your monitor onto a stand with wheels, then you can even adjust it to where you want it and you could slide it over when you need it for something with filming. Might make more sense than locking it onto the table with a monitor arm. :) I've been loving the Autonomous ErgoChair 2, it's quite large though!
@LouAllenWheeler4 жыл бұрын
Be careful with those Linnmon desks and monitor mounts. The tables are hollow and monitor mounts clamps can crush and collapse the honeycomb structure. You could use larger sheets of metal to spread the clamp force, but it's still iffy. Also, Herman Miller chairs are great. The Aeron is killer, and so is the Mirra, which is my day job chair for the past 3 years.

For the blackout stuff you should look into the IKEA Fyrtur and Kadrilj, or whatever they are called over there. Basically electric shades that connect with the IKEA gateway for a smart-home solution. Not terribly expensive either and comes in a variety of sizes. Btw I can't decide between a 16-35mm/f4 or just get like two primes 24mm/f2 and 35mm/f2. All the best Gene!

I've got a linnmon desk top, bought a monitor arm for my 32inch Ultrawide, it bowed the desk! It's because as you said, its a hollow desk top 🙄😒 I resolved my issue by buying a strip of aluminium for the top of the desk, and used some spare wood for under the desk 😁

For chair's, you probably are looking at a Herman Miller Aeron or Steelcase Leap V2 if you want really nice chairs that have 10 year warranties brand new if I am not mistaken, however can readily find them used in the US. For lower end could probably look at the Autonymous Ergochair 2. Only good racing style chair if probably from Secret Labs. From buying many cheap chairs from amazon, staples, etc. don't be like me and just buy something to sit in, they suck after a month. If you can, highly recommend sitting chairs prior to purchase if possible.
