STUDIO VLOG ✿ Packing 400+ Orders after a huge shop launch & some BIG mistakes I made

Phewwphhh what a busy few weeks it's been after our Sakura product launch! This week we have a packing party as we get to work on packing over 400+ orders just before we head away on a family holiday
I also share some advice and tips that I have made in my small business launch and what I will do in the future to prevent making these mistakes! This shop update really has taught me some incredibly valuable lessons!

I would personally love to learn more about the EU/tax situation and how that effected your business plans! My shop is based in the US but I find it really interesting to hear how businesses have to navigate things like that. @tabbydgurl if your based in the US its the same just that we pay less tax than the US but tax is still payable. I'm from the UK. You can still learn about our tax now we are out of the EU by looking at our Tax system in the UK which is HMRC website and it has it all there for you until Catherine can get back to you with a reply about what the tax side for her business is all about. Hope this helps. 😊

Tip for the tissue paper... get a paper towel holder or a towel holder that fits inside the roll and attach it to a wall or far side of a table. On the other side attach a metal ruler. Feed the paper under the ruler and you have an inexpensive paper cutter. That what I did for my kids art corner for drawing/painting. Makes clean up and reset 100x easier.

I always appreciate how transparent you are with the business. So many other people wouldn't publicly point out all the mistakes made within the business and just try to keep it quiet and resolve issues as they arise. But you being straightforward makes me trust your business so much more. Accidents & mistakes happen! Its how we handle them that matters. Congrats on a huge update!

U should look into maybe a roll out table that can fit under ur packing desk since u don't sit at it. So you can have it the extra work surface when u need it.

Mousemat…when you put the mouse mats round your studio; did you subtract those from inventory ?? Sounds silly, but maybe you forgot in all the excitement !

I really appreciate everyone who stays on etsy! I live in Norway, which is not part of the EU either but has its own tax stuff that etsy takes care of.(and everyone seems to forget about us haha) Our customs fees are so high on top of 25% VAT. It's really nice not getting those customs fees 🥰

well most bigger businesses don't use etsys labels, we import to a separate shipping software and probably won't know about the tax info to put on the box. I didn't know Norway had a special tax situation too so now I need to look into that

@@Xhilyn I'm not even sure if etsy tells the seller tbh. I also have an etsy store but obviously I don't need to add tax info to norwegian orders haha. Its fairly simple, etsy has a VOEC number (similar to IOSS) that you just need to add to the outside of the package :)

I love that you use/reuse kraft paper, and the tape; they match the boxes so nicely. You can use a box resizer to quickly shorten the box to fit, so it takes less padding, and weighs less to save on shipping because you can then cut off some of the cardboard. :)

The mouse mat situation, while sad, I am sure will be rectified and I am sure that your customers are understanding! I know that they will get what they ordered as soon as humanly possible, and I know that you guys will deliver without fail! You've all got this. :) I am in love with the Sakura orders I've received, and while I haven't yet been able to put my large mouse mat out yet from being injured right now and unable to do much, it brings me such joy even still packaged up! I have so much respect for how transparent you are about your business. I once purchased an order from a pretty big etsy seller who didn't send out multiple packages for weeks. She explained in a DM that there were some issues out of their control but when I went on their Insta, it turned out they just went on vacation and forgot a few orders / forgot to notify us. The transparency matters so much. As long as sellers are honest, most people are understanding and aren't in dire need of stationary asap. But so many businesses lie to their customers instead of owning up to their mistakes.

You should get one of those paper roller cutters that wrappers use, you just put the roll of tissue in and then pull up to tear it off in the size you need.

I also use an Etsy/Shopify syncing app, and what I've found is that it takes time for servers to communicate with each other. So it might take up to 15 minutes for sale information to sync between platforms. This is fine if you have a small volume of orders like I do, but for this big product launch, given that you sold out so quickly, the server communication time might have just not been fast enough to keep up with orders.

As an artist myself I recommend instead of counting pages just register a correct weight of a 50pages, so if you weight and it weights less you know it's not 50 pages

I just redid my office/shipping part of the studio and repurposed a bunch of old furniture (painted in pastels to match my soap branding) and now i have 3 separate large shipping tables. It is so much better!! I love your vlogs.

Omg this was so exciting to watch you do this!! My order was the 3rd one you did and it’s crazy that you typed each order and showed us. It’s so much work and I appreciate your honesty about what you should have done, but you couldn’t have predicted this as you said business was slow. I love my totes so much, the notepad has become so handy for my goals and coaching and the pin and magnet are right near my drawing tablet to keep me motivated. I hope you’ve been able to get some rest! I also don’t need a refund for the notepad I quite like mine and the size and everything is fine, please don’t worry about that and I’m sure the customers who had a wait a bit longer for their mouse mats are fine. Maybe you have to use the barcode and it's scanner things, so each time there's a order so you'll keep up with the stocks you have left (automatic stock keeping stuffs). But i don't really know how effective that stuff, just thinks it'll help you
