So glad movies like Drive came along as a reaction to the 00's action movie style of shaky handheld shots and cuts measured in milliseconds. Even really good movies from that era are really hard for me to watch now because the editing just makes me nauseous!

On our way back from a friend’s birthday beach-camping weekend in 2011, back when dispensaries were just opening to the public (if you know what I mean), we stopped to catch a movie that my buddy & his gal were raving about. With sand still on me, relaxed and high as a kite, I went into Drive knowing nothing about it and had one of the best cinematic experiences of my life. You only get so many of those. Went back another couple times while it was still on the big screen. Game changer.

Drive has one of my favorite opening sequences ever. It has enough style but doesn't sacrifice any substance. It's very realistic but directed in a way that gives a lot of suspense and tension so it isn't a bore. There's nothing wrong w/ opening a movie up with a car chase sequence or a shootout but given the tone of Drive, I find this opening scene a masterpiece.
