Criston doesn’t care about marrying Rhaenyra. It’s delusional to think Rhaenyra might accept his proposal, but the delusion was borne out of desperation. House Hightower's being the lord of Oldtown makes it a powerful house. Oldtown is a port city. It sees a lot of trade, so it's one of the richest economies in Westeros. I believe that was back in the 1600. But I also read that recently, in the early/mid 1900, or so, they were doing some reconstruction in the castle the boys were last seen at and randomly came upon 2 skeletons of young kids hidden under some stairs. It makes sense to assume those skeletons are from the boys, but I heard the UK government/royals do not want to have forensics officially confirm this for some reason. But I think it’s safe to assume that those must be the boys and the would have been heir to the throne. Truly sad indeed. I think they were only 12 and 8 at the time.

Ser Criston sees himself as an honorable man (whether we agree with it or not). His whole relationship with Rhaneyra is a huge reason for shame for him. He believed that he could fix it all if he marries her, that he would feel better about himself if could justify his actions as an act of love. That's the only reason he wanted to marry her, in hopes to restore his honour, not because he was truly in love with her. So when Joffrey (Laenor's lover) comes to him, hinting that he knows about their relationship (his biggest shame) he sees this as if though he is rubbing it in his face. And that was the last straw.

An order of events that could have prevented the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of Dragons: 1.) King Jaehaerys I Targaryen named Princess Rhaenys (Lord Corlys Velaryon's wife) as his heir and she become Queen. ** I don't mean the Council of 101 AC name her heir, I mean if Jaehaerys made one final wise decision, listened to his wife, and just said (while petting his dragon Vermithor) "My granddaughter will be your Queen and you can't say shit about it" 2.) King Viserys I Targaryen named his brother, Prince Daemon, as Hand of the King // King Viserys marry his brother to his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra * Daemon was right when he said Otto was selfish and that he should have been by his brother's side. Yes, part of Daemon might think he would be have been a better king than Viserys, but all Daemon truly wanted was to protect his family. It was Otto who whispered doubts about Daemon's intentions into Viserys's ear that led to the King sending his brother away. ** If not name Daemon Hand of the King, then having him as Rhaenyra's King-consort would've worked, too. As Viserys said, they share the blood of the dragon and would fiercely defend each other. 3.) Queen Alicent Hightower reconnected with Princess Rhaenyra after her father, Otto Hightower, was dismisses as Hand. ** WHY CAN'T THEY JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER?!?! Without spoiling anything, Rhaenys says something to Alicent in episode 9 that aptly describes the soon-to-be Dowager Queen/Queen Mother. But in this episode, Otto insists that Rhaenyra would put Alicent's children (Aegon & Aemond, the sons) to the sword to protect her claim. If Alicent and Rhaenyra just came to some sisterly agreement that Alicent's children would defend Rhaenyra's claim, never undermine her, and inform her of any plots against her, THE REALM COULD HAVE CONTINUED THE WAY VISERYS WANTED!!!!! Otto Hightower started the Dance of the Dragons and no one can tell me otherwise.

Yes but even if Rhaenyra and Alicent had come to an agreement, what is to stop an adult Aegon pursuing his claim to be king? Why would the first borm son of a king stand down so peacefully? Would the realm ie other noble houses back down so easily for a queen? Didnt the Council of 101 AC prove they're not ready for a ruling queen? Do they not plot against Viserys' decision to name his daughter?
@elenawinslow27179 ай бұрын
@darcypenn6702 I see where you're coming from but Aegon (Alicent's son) never really wanted to be King (you'll see it later on in the show, idk if you've read the books or not). Alicent pushed her son to press his claim because of the fear her father instilled in her. If Alicent and her children came to some agreement with Rhaenyra to defend her claim to the Iron Throne, then House Targaryen, as Viserys wanted, could stand united for another century. Instead of pitting all their dragons against each other, they could use those dragons, that bent the knees of the lords of Westeros to Aegon the Conqueror, to fortify Rhaenyra's position as Queen. They could do what Jaehaerys never did: lay down the law and use the dragons to enforce it. I know it sounds very Maegor the Cruel-ish of me, but that was one of the very few stupid decisions Jaehaerys made. His sister-wife Alysanne, who he listened to, even got pissed at him for naming Baelon (their second son, Viserys and Daemon's father) his heir over Rhaenys (only child of their first son, Aemon) on account of her gender. Sadly, Alysanne was dead (i think) by the time Baelon died and the Council of 101 AC was called, otherwise she would have talked some sense into her husband. Honestly, the summary of my point is: Otto is a (forgive my language) a fuck-tard, Alicent and Rhaenyra could've been powerful allies as females in a world ruled by men, and I'm just pissed about all the horrific dragon deaths we'll have to witness as the show continues
@darcypenn67029 ай бұрын

reminder that criston cole is a GROWN ass man and much older than rhaenyra (this is why even after time skips it’s still the same actor). he is a murderous incel who couldn’t accept the fact that rhaenyra could not simply throw her obligations away for him. AND he only offered marriage bc of the guilt after breaking his vows as kingsguard after sleeping with rhaenyra- a situation he could’ve avoided if he wanted to. again, he is a grown man and rhaenyra was a minor.
@jordanrivers58259 ай бұрын
Rhaenyra was 18 or 19 in that episode not even a minor in our world let alone Game of Thrones standards, and they were both wrong for what happened in episode four. Rhaenyra never should’ve propositioned Criston especially after seeing his resistance and his attempts to leave and she is in a position of power over him not to mention they’ve been friends for three years, and she should know what his white cloak means to him. In Cristons mind, if rhaenyra is risking some thing like this, something that could have him killed and her reputation ruined then she’s doing it for love not just some casual fun on the side and when it becomes clear that that’s all it was and he was being used hes devastated. Then mocked over all he has to offer. Of course he snaps, then suggesting he keep further dishonoring himself by being her side piece while she’s married to another man..he’s disgusted with both her and himself for the situation, and Alicent comes out of the darkness like a ray of salvation for him thereby explaining his rabid devotion to her in the rest of the season. Alicent is the antithesis of everything rhaenyra is to him at that point

Hightowers absolutely are one of the strongest Houses. They controll Oldtown, the biggest city in Westeros, much larger than the capital in King's Landing. It's a major center of trade and is also considered a holy city for the Faith of the Seven. Grand Septon, basically Faith of the Seven's Pope, has his seat there and as such House Hightower and the Faith are traditionally very close (hence Alicent's religiousness). Oldtown is also the place where the Citadel is located, the closest thing in Westeros to an university, where all the Maesters are trained, which then serve other noble Houses. And the Maesters are also very close to the Hightowers, the Citadel was founded by them. In the 1st episode you can even see that when Viserys' wife is about to die while giving birth, the Maesters in king's service first tell that to Otto. Velarions have stronger fleet, but Hightowers have much stronger PR and soft power over the Westerosi general population (through the support of the Faith) and noble Houses (through the support of the Maesters). And are probably stronger economically too through their controll over the most populous and richest city on the continent

For some reason, viewers of the series hate Otto and adore Corlis, although to me they look the same. Both men dreamed of power and tried to put their daughters in the king's bed. Only Corlis's daughter was just a child. Corlys did not care about the nature of his son, he forced him to marry Rhaenyra and get involved in a dangerous game, although Rhaenys warned him. There is a deleted scene in this episode in which Corlys screams at Laenor and drags him to the altar immediately after the death of Laenor's lover. And how he will act in the future... no spoilers, but at least Otto remained true to his principles to the end. Again, I'm looking at the series here, not the book. In the book, Corlys was my favorite along with Daeron. I also cannot help but comment on the shameful scene with the fight and murder. Ser Criston killed a noble man at the wedding of the heir to the throne and he wasn't even punished? Seriously?! He had to go to the Wall by now, or be executed. In the book, he participated in the tournament and killed Joffrey in a fair fight. The series decided to save budget and airtime, lol) idk, the scene with Alicent is my favorite in this episode. A turning point in history accompanied by dramatic music, when the queen finally realizes that the king is not her family and will always side with his daughter.

And just like that we are half way through. Can't wait to see the other half guys!❤ First off, there is not a meaningful amount of time passed between episodes this time, just a few weeks at most. Now, for some more info. 1) Rhea's horse freaked out because it could sense Caraxes's smell on Daemon's hand. Side note : Corlys didn't need to do Viserys like that tho😅 Literally made him drag himself through his castle before meeting him. Also, closing the door on Rhaenyra's face was wild! 2) And now, Ser Criston and Rhaenyra. Boy is this gonna be hard to articulate well, I'll try my best for ya'll. Rhaenyra just had her duties reminded to her last episode by Viserys so she definitely couldn't accept Criston's proposal. At the same time tho, she is the one that isn't considering his feelings at all. She basically holds all the power in their relationship. During Jaehaerys's reign one of his Kingsguards got caught having multiple secret families and to make him an example he was gelded and banished to the Wall. If Criston was found out by the king he probably would have had it even worse. Rhaenyra willingly chose to put Criston in a dangerous position because she was only thinking about herself, whithout thinking how her actions may impact him or what he might go through. Yeah, Criston liked Rhaenyra and ended up going through with it that time, but it's not like if he refused her he would have gone away with it. That's what happens when someone who outranks you makes advances on you, saying no might lead to worse consequences. Man, these characters are so interesting! At least that's how I view it, if you want, let me know what you guys think about it. 3)The two dragons that arrive with the Velaryons were Seasmoke and Meleys, Rhaenys and Laenor's. We saw Seasmoke in the battle in episode 3. This is the first time we see Meleys, nicknamed the Red Queen due to the collar of spikes that adornes her neck, making it look like she wears a crown. Meleys is a fierce red dragon around the age of Caraxes (around 60) and she is the fastest of the Targaryen dragons. Rhaenys is actually her second rider, her first one was Alyssa Targaryen, Viserys and Daemon's mother. 4)The green dress is a powerful statements by Alicent. Until know, Alicent always wore red and black dresses since marrying Viserys, since those are the Targaryen's colors. The green dress is a way for her to show that she is not gonna take their nonsense anymore. 5)Joffrey thought he and Criston were in the same boat, which is why he approached him. He had no idea Criston felt so ashamed and betrayed. The way he worded it made Criston think he was threatening him with his secret, even tho it wasn't Joffrey's intention which led to his outburst. I have no idea how Criston gets away with murdering a knight and punching Laenor, the only thing I can think of is that Joffrey did pull a knife on him, so in the chaos he might go for the self defense route. Idk about this one tho. 😬 That's it for now, see you next time👍👋

I am delighted to observe the introduction of both Lord of the Rings enthusiasts and newcomers to the captivating realm of A Song of Ice and Fire. Its exceptional world-building and unparalleled success have solidified its position as the most prominent and consistent franchise in the contemporary landscape. Witnessing the anticipation and excitement for each upcoming episode brings me immense joy. This franchise holds a special place in my heart, and the Targaryens are my preferred family. A plethora of enthralling moments lie ahead, and I eagerly await the opportunity to experience them alongside you. I genuinely wish I could be a part of your group, sharing in the viewing experience and engaging in insightful discussions afterward. I express my gratitude for allowing us to partake in this remarkable journey. May Game of Thrones continue to flourish and captivate audiences for years to come!

Magic in this world is like a sword without a hilt, it's not safe to use and anyone that ducks with it gets cut one way or another

In the book, criston apparently kills joffrey in a dual instead, in which case it makes more sense for him not to be executed or punished. I loved this season but Criston not being punished was the only thing I didn't really like.
