That's why he implanted the needle. So Killua prioritizes his own safety and runs even if he has a 99% chance to win. As long as death was possible, he should retreat, because Illumi wanted him to live no matter what. And he would totally fight Hisoka to the death over the threat of killing Killua. Killua is like the most important thing to illumi. I thought that was made very clear in the show already. It's not a healthy love. It's as toxic as it gets. But it is love nontheless lmao.

Exactly bro, and that's why so many people fail to understand the Characters of Hunter X Hunter they are just so well written and compelling it's insane. Characters like Shaiapouf, Pariston, Illumi are just so intriguing. Shaiapouf has to be one of the most underrated characters in anime of terms of writing. People doesn't give enough time to appreciate and understand the Characters of HxH.

But he's brilliantly written for what he was supposed to represent and do in the show. I saw SO MANY people call him stupid for doing stuff that would anger Meruem and putting himself in harms way. People legit think that Pouf did NOT KNOW that he could be killed by Meruem for his actions. Many people think he's legit just dumb when he LITERALLY SPELLS IT OUT TO US! He literally says he is prepared to die for his loyalty. For HIS picture of what the king should be. That's what Pouf is, the absolute peak of insanity and loyalty. But he wasn't loyal to Meruem, he was loyal to the idea of "the King". He's amazing and people just think he's a stupid bipolar bitch that can't understand the consequences of his own actions. It's sad. At least hate him for the right reasons xD

His downward spiral was just amazingly portrayed. He spent most of the time with king and komougi and he was blind to understand what was going on. He truly had no other purpose other than service his "King" but his purpose was slowly fading. Just Like Humans, Humans would do unimaginable things to protect/hold their loved ones, Shaiapouf literally did everything and anything to save his "King". Pouf showed this side of humanity brilliantly and I will never stop talking about it. Huge props too channel Aleczandxr that channel got godly content for HxH

Togashi writes what he feels like writing about. It’s been seen many times even just in HxH that some arcs feel rushed or incomplete because he feels like writing about something else. Also I don’t know how Carter can feel as though he didn’t get enough chimera ant arc wrap-up when that is literally what this arc is. Both major narratives are results of the ants: the election because of Neteros death to Meruem, and Gon’s recovery due to his sacrifice vs Pitou. I get the vibe switch complaint but do you really want the show to end on such a depressing note? It’s never been what the show was about.

Hisoka is essentially a murderous sociopath, self absorbed, entirely is in it just for the thrill. Hes such a good character, like there are more complete and richer characters like him in other works but there is something about likable villains that just do bad things for no real reason or goal, he doesn't want to rule or gain control over something, he plays people just for fun and yet that doesn't make him any less resolute in terms of writing and presentation.

Yeah I don't know if you have noticed yet, but HxH is not the same as other animes. You would expect the last arc of the anime to be this epic wrap up to a story, even if the manga goes on, but there is no "story" to wrap up... That is another reason why I love Togashi's writing in HxH, it reflects real life so much. In real life you don't have a world to save, or an enemy to defeat at the end, you just have mini arcs, triggered by your own decisions and the decisions of other people, and HxH feels exactly like that. This is also why I don't really worry about Togashi not finishing the manga; the story could change to "The adventures of Hisoka" and it would still feel like HxH. I guess it's clear, the important thing is not the ending.

The vibes you have is because each arc has a different theme and genre and way to approach the story..but mostly It’s because there’s something not still complete about the chimera ant and that is the Gon condition..this make you watch the story like if it is interrupting the ant arc rhythm to close something that had to do with ant arc rhythm… but it’s normal, when you are going to watch all the arc of election again from the start you will enjoy more because you already know the ant arc’s gon condition are solved And you can be more relaxed and enjoy more of it. This is a brilliant arc to be honest also in the way it’s scripted but again of course it has a different rhythm like greed island with York arc…and also the arc after the anime has completely different theme and arc..

@@Damphouse Because he is an archeological hunter, his specialty isn't about fighting he can read and understand Nen like a genius (which is very necessary to be an archeological hunter since you're going to end up in cursed ruins and things like that) but the zoldycks have been trained to kill, same with the phantom troupe ever since they were little kids they've been surrounded by death and their nen is built to fight. Based on that alone you can guess that Ging is an amazing nen user, a really good hunter and a huge asset but not necessarily the best fighter (not to say he's weak, far from it) but characters like silva, zeno, chrollo, feitan and even bisky who came from netero's martial arts school...should be stronger than him since their nen is made for combat and they've trained to fight for their whole life

One star = Remarkable achievements in a particular field. Three stars = Remarkable achievements in multiple fields, these are usually the guys that are completely unmatched in whatever they do for the association and are ridiculous experts in multiple other areas, so Pariston is no joke. So Leorio is nowhere close to a star. Allthough one could argue that Killua, Gon, Knuckle and Shoot deserve to be awarded their star, for the remarkable achievement that was saving humanity from the ants. Though Netero honestly did most of the work, all of them were important.

I totally understand Carter. Chimera Ant arc was so heavy that it stays with you so it feels weird moving on from it. I personally think it's not the anime moving too fast afterwards, it's just that the Chimera ant ark is so amazing that it lingers in the mind and time needs to be taken to really digest it. People have strange complaints. On one hand you'll see people saying HxH arcs end anticlimactic - which is true. But the climax happens usually mid or late arc then winds down. That's rather typical. The story ramps up. Reaches its climax then winds down. This is normal. Not everything has to end ON the climax. But because it doesn't end ON the climax people believe it didn't happen. Netero Vs Meruem and Gon Vs Pitou were absolutely climaxes. In the same way The requiem for Uvo and even the dodgeball game in greed island were climaxes. But the story didn't end there it winds down first then ends and we move on. Then you'll see people say it moves on too fast. I don't understand this. Kurapika deals a heavy blow against the troupe and distances them from their leader and while he admits this isn't the end we have to move on and the pacing was perfectly fine for that. Same in greed island. Beat razor, the bombers and win the game. Move on. Likewise with chimera ant. Meruem dies with Komugi, all the royal guards are dead. Let's move on. How much longer would we need to linger when the point/goal has already been made or achieved? Just strange.

I believe the "weird" feeling stems from a couple of things. 1) The tone back to the "original" HxH vibes of the show, like you guys were saying. However, if you think about it everything in this arc is the directly caused by the Chimera Ant arc. 2)The Chairman died, so the HxH association needed to replace him (through an election process). 3) Gon (the main character) is out of commission, so Killua and the crew need to save him immediately. 4) Lastly, the overwhelming strength of the King (and the Royal Guard) was isolated to only a few Hunters. To "us", we saw the potential end of humanity. However, everyone else only experienced the threat of the Ants in general.

I feel like every hxh arc is it`s own thing while at same time fiting into the overarching narrative without feeling incoherent. York Shin is a crime thriller, Green Island is a game adventure, Chimera Ants is monster epic, this arc it`s a political thriller. While all this is tied together by a world that feels cohesive with elements like Nen, that keep expanding without necessaraly changing it`s fundamental rules (Alluka). And see elements that were set up way back like people being capable of using nen without realizing they are doing making then extraordinare on their field(Komugi). Togashi understands that if character has no reason to be there, he won`t shoehorn in there just for the sake of it.( Kurapika) Their story is done for now. This is why I personally love HXH, when we analyze it`s individual arc it seems like pure chaos, but it`s a method to the madness and a logic that bounds its characters and stories.

To be clear, Ging could be triple star, he just didn’t put in the application. But yes, it’s not strength based. It’s based on achieving a great accomplishment within a field (as well as mentoring at least a single star hunter iirc).

I actually quite like that all the hunter x hunter arcs are different. They're different genres almost, but they make sense in universe. And the transition between them isn't grating, atleast not for me. There's always set up or little references to the next arc in the previous. Like Yorknew in Hunter exam, Greed Island in Yorknew, or the vice chairman being set up in the chimera ant for this arc. Alluka even makes an appearance in Chimera ant when we see a picture of the Zoldyck family. There's also already quite a bit of set up for the arc preceeding this one right now that's going on in the manga.

I don't see this as a completely separate arc from chimera ant. It feels more like a comedown from chimera, where we see the aftermath of all that happened. The serious tone from chimera ant is the only thing that really changed. Gon is literally on the brink of death but the tone feels allot lighter. So I feel like that could have been done a bit better but besides that I like this arc allot.

I love Hisoka, he is definitely one of my favorite characters. Probably 2nd after Killua. He is a very interesting character with his own personal goals.He can't be called either a bad or a good character, but I don't feel disgust or hatred towards him.

Yeah the arcs feeling soo different from each other is just another one of those things that makes HxH unique . It really is jarring sometimes , but when you infact remember about arcs in hindsight seperately , you realise they were all done very well even after each being so different . Hunter exams : Adventure/ fantasy Zoldyck family arc : Drama Heavnes arena : TOURNAMENT ARC !! Yorknew arc : Crime thriller Greed Island : Another World / Game Chimera Ant arc : Apocalyptic / shonen battle Election arc : Political drama/ thriller

I mean this is still fall out from Chimera Ant, the election is only happening because Netero died during the Chimera Ant arc and Killua is taking Alluka to heal Gon because of what happened in Chimera Ant. Also it may feel broken up but there's definitely a flow, Gon goes to the hunter exam so he can become a hunter and find Ging, through this he befriends Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua. Gon gets humiliated by Hisoka during the exam and we also find out when Kurapika will be able to make a move against the phantom troupe at the yorknew auction, but since that's not for awhile Gon wants to settle the score with Hisoka first and because he's friends with Kurapika he wants to help with the phantom troupe. During heavens arena we eventually find out about Greed Island which happens precisely because Gon hasn't lost site of his original goal of finding Ging and it so happens they can get Greed Island at the auction so two storylines colliding. After the auction is over and the phantom troupe and Kurapika end up in a stalemate all that's left is continue the search for Ging and the best lead is to pick up on the Greed Island thread. Then at the end of Greed Island in an attempt to find Ging, Gon stumbles upon Kite which naturally leads into Chimera Ant, then this final arc is dealing directly with the fallout of the Chimera Ant arc. There are very logical through lines that connect the arcs

It's a proper, "don't let your mom catch you watching this anime" type anime and it would be hilarious to see your guys' reactions to it, especially cause you guys "aren't really that into anime". Idk I feel like there were 2 or 3 transition episodes. Though this is very much a breather arc/setup for the next arc in the manga (which is quite mature and dark again, probably even more than CA actually). It’s an odd place to end the show for sure, but I think it went pretty well all things considered.

It’s not gonna make much sense unless you read ahead beyond the anime. Nanika (the being in Aluka) comes from the same land as Chimera ants and the arc that deals with that is just amazing but still not over unfortunately. That’s all I’ll say so as not to spoil anything but this show still finds a way to get even better.
