Wow. Awesom! Vibrato and harmonics are one thing, I expect those from a slide player, but all those tremolo effects and volume swells that I thought were being switched on or off with footpedals and electronic effects turn out to be done strictly with hands, head, and heart. Funny too how it turns out that he started as a trumpet player; I have been listening to his solo work ever since Hiatt's Slow Turning album and tour so many years ago but I did not know that. I am not a big fan of brass instruments but many of my favorite---- and the most iconoclastic---- pickers seem to think like horn players, Jeff Beck being another example who has talked about this. 1:42 How is that even possible? He dampens the strings with the edge of his hand, and they vibrate again?? WTF?
@gerogudo6 жыл бұрын
Cymbaline713 ; 1. He uses heavy 013-056 strings and it makes longer sustain. 2. He does it with a slide on 12th fret to make harmonics also. 3. He probably uses compressor and overdrive in good matching for additional sustain. 4. Above 1+2+3, and good pulling off with his right palm on around 24th fret (Strat does not have but anyway 3/4 point of the strings :-) enables him to make this magical tremolo sound. Yes, I have ever tried to emulate his technique and “basically” I have found we can do it. Easy? Haha, of course not! But I enjoy it to feel I AM SONNY LANDRETH...NOT! THX.
