When I heard the song Tell at home. Sonny Landreth had me in his pocket for the rest of his life and mine. He is one of the best slide guitar so I ever saw I saw him perform where he didn't even touch the strings with his right hand and it was one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life. This man is a magician when it comes to the guitar he will slide his way into history.

I had the privilege I have growing up in Lafayette I’m hearing this guy play. He is phenomenal. And yes you were all correct! So many people died before their time. But this guy is phenomenal. Mark Knopfler even says he’s the best slide guitarist in the world. And I agree wholeheartedly. The funny thing is that with the same age basically and he is phenomenal. There’s nothing like the sound of Sonny. Especially when you walk at the Grant Street and hear him play

I was working for Bud's Guitar & Drums in high school in Lafayette(mid 70's), when Sonny came around. He played & sat in w/TONS of people. Clifton had him in the band, When Sam wouldn't tour, Sonny hit the road w/Michael Martin Murphy. He played w/the guys from the Red Beans & Rice Review. I took a few lessons, but he never taught my guitar to play like that!lol I moved away in the service & life. In '96, I was living in Santa FE,NM when I saw his name on a bill down the street. I was amazed! He hadn't changed & was just as an amazing guy as he was a guitar player. He was another of those "overnight success stories" that took 40 years! Always inspiring!

Had 2019 tix to see him at a theater in Boston, then the venue was changed to a shoebox-sized, "everyone just stands" place in Cambridge, so I opted out... Then came COVID... But today I grabbed a pair of tix to see him, at last, at the Bull Run in Shirley MA in November. Can't wait - this guy's a wizard.

I took a (very large) buddy of mine to see Sonny about 5 years ago. He was reluctant, having not heard of him. And I used his large mass to get us some choice viewing positions about 10 feet away from Sonny. By the end of the show, my buddy was absolutely *raving* about how great Sonny was. It sure was nice to turn someone on to what I consider a slide guitar LEGEND!! Sonny and Ry Cooder are the best slide guitarists I've ever seen...

The first time I heard Sonny was on one of those floppy 7-single things they stuck into Guitarist magazine but I can't remember the tune. The flip-side was Steve Vai playing another something and BOTH just blew me away. The next time I heard Sonny was on a compilation album playing Zydeco Shuffle . . . oh my!
