To me, the song that embodies everything Zeppelin was is Ramble On. It has it all--the subdued Celtic folklore of the verses with the reflective lyrics, and then the epic explosive hard rock of the chorus, and the ending, where they would all cut loose. It just doesn't get any better than that.
@jmeakin4Ай бұрын
@piscesman54 - 'Ramble On' has perhaps the best orchestration of any work in the past century. Each part is stellar, especially the bass line, and when combined, make for a virtually perfect song. Like Led Zeppelin's musicians, the parts each have top virtuosity; yet, the sum total is greater than each of those parts.

I think all of these are brilliant with in the light being the most underrated, its tremendous! They have so many truly great songs ,its impossible to say which 5 or 10 are thier best but its subjective and depends on your mood! One night you want to rock and you put on presence or physical graffiti then something a bit lighter like houses of the holy or in through the outdoor! And then you want a mixture of thier great diversity and you put on 4 or 1 or get blown away with the live album! This is why Zep is hands down the best rock band in history! ❤🎉💯👍🏻🇺🇸

'Tea for One' has always been my favorite track off of Presence. Jimmy's light stringed, almost background solo evokes an image of a teardrop falling through a blue spotlight. 'Achilles', while a powerful testimony and proof of Zep's musicianship and skills, always came across to me like they were trying to outdo their previous works, such as 'Kashmir' and 'Stairway'. And one of my favorite Zep tunes, never even played on commercial radio TMK, is 'Four Sticks'. Plant's howling, screeching lyrics, with Jimmy's 4 on the floor rhythmic groove and his echoing, acoustic change-up? Oh man! 'And when the owls cry in the night, Oh baby, baby when the pines begin to cry...' A truly magical song.
@54mrysАй бұрын
Favorite for me as well.
@Vidar9329 күн бұрын
I think presence is one of their more underrated albums to casual fans. Hots for nowhere, Royal Orleans, tea for one and Achilles don't get the love they deserve. And while four sticks is great I am not quite sure what you mean about Jimmy's four on the floor groove? The song starts in 5/4 and the chorus is in 6/8. Or well some count it as 5/8 and 6/8 but its definitely not a 4/4 four on the floor type of feel.

For me, it's Kashmir, Immigrant Song, Going to California, The Ocean, and Stairway to Heaven. In that order. All for different reasons. Everyone will have their own personal favorites or greatest lists. That's the mark of a truly great band. @@ronnociar1216 Glad you've pointed this out. I was very happy to see that Robert is now acknowledging the particular excellence of "Achilles Last Stand". During a past band reunion performance, he is said to have told Page and Jones that he didn't want to performance this one because it was "too heavy metal". Page and Jones are said to have groaned in disappointment at this. Going back even further to when the "Presence" album containing this song as the lead off track was being recorded, Plant has been said to get so excited at the possibilities presented here (no pun intended) that he jumped up and fell off of the wheelchair he had been in since the car crash he was involved in while vacationing in Greece with his family. So evidently his opinion here has changed at least twice, even further supporting your point, here.

There are really no wrong answers when someone names their five favourite Led Zeppelin songs but my list would be quite different: When The Levee Breaks, The Rain Song, The Rover, Houses of the Holy and Stairway To Heaven. Why so many people seem to be retconning Stairway To Heaven in a negative light I just don't understand. It is an all-time classic and perhaps the greatest rock song ever. Plant is entitled to his opinion of it ,as he essentially wrote it all, but I believe it might be the best example of a song that builds in tempo to a totally satisfying and still unexpected crescendo, a song imbued with feeling and meaning with incredible use of acoustic, 12-string and electric guitars plus the immortal evocative lyrics that remain open to interpretation to this day.

I respect his take on absolutely everything he addresses, but this one kinda sets me back upon my heels. I get it, I get it, I get it, both sides of the equation but somehow when this song of all songs (and like all songs) is heard for there complete singular "PRESENTS" , there is no denying the grand yous Top of the pile accolades Stairway to Heaven sumins from pretty much all who hear it. As an artist its sometimes hard to hear totality rather than just your contributing parts. Absolutely no disrespect intended. Probably the biggest Led Head and Plant fan on Earth / Ron.
