@@ariah457 Right straighten was optional I would think, but that body and bounce was superb. I remember being relaxed and would get a roller set my hair had body and bounce. I'm two plus years natural now and love it. Sometimes I can't do anything to it. LoL I'm thinking about ordering those rollers.

It looks like the roller set doesn’t straighten the roots though and that’s why she flat irons and recurls.

This turned out SO well. I think the only thing that I would do differently would be to flat iron the sections as I removed the rollers to decrease tangling. Every time I watch someone use this method of drying I notice that the curls tangle upon themselves because they try to brush all of the curls together. Either way, her hair turned out FABULOUS and the shine is AMAZING.

I'm thinking that the stylist wanted us to see the entire after effects of the tension roller set method. But flat ironing individually is an excellent idea 🙌🏽...

I kinda freak when I see long hair being roller set. Some history: Back in the day it was really only one of two options: The Hot Comb or the stand-up hair dryer. I ran screaming from the dryer, it could easily take 3 hours, all the while those rollers and pins were tightening...it had to be absolutely dry-it was a nightmare. Or braid that wet hair loosely and get under the dryer for a while and the next day-the hot comb and petroleum jelly. Life with long hair was not fun back then though technology and being able to afford to go to a hair stylist made it better. Eventually, I figured out how to do my hair without burning it off my head. That was kinda tricky. These days it's pretty easy.

@Chocolate Donut I've never been tenderheaded but I just didn't like the whole process. (My hair was long, maybe 14-15 inches past my chin by the time I was 13) The whole thing could easily take 2 days and once it got started, it had to be finished. I remember my gramma dropping a long peice of hair on my back, it sizzled and left a whelp. After the hot comb, my hair was pretty but by the time I was 17, graduation pictures taken, it was a very loose afro for me. I never let my hair get that long again.

Beautiful hair...I just don't understand why roller set if your gonna flat iron it anyway?
@mmoore51904 жыл бұрын
It would've taken more direct heat to get her hair sleek as it is in the end. Had she not done the rollers and blow dry (which is indirect heat and less likely to cause damage) she would've had to do smaller sections and more passed with the flat iron which is more likely to cause damage

I'm asking for my own edification. Where does the health of the hair originate. Does healthy hair come from scalp health? Does it come from product or non-use of product? Or is it a reflection if diet?
@chosentheempress4 жыл бұрын
It’s all of the above. Think about it. Good genes=good hair. Not using harmful products and using hair health products =retain length. Drinking lots of water & eating healthy foods that produce the nutrients God created = growth. You have to know what’s good for you, bad for you & know that your hair is living.. you become healthy with healthy diet, as does your hair. Hopefully this answers your questions

@Bychance374 жыл бұрын
I do hair and roller setting and drying is better than using a blow dryer. The blow dryer is usually the most powerful tool in the salon and often is what will trip a fuse. A hooded dryer is less direct heat therefore the hair is healthier and grows longer. I'm sure that flat iron is ceramic with ceramic plates which is better for hair and doesn't break it down like titanium does.
@lynp59884 жыл бұрын
My hair doesn't get straight with a ceramic flatiron. What other tools can I use to get my hair straight if I want too. Haven't used heat in over a year.
@Bychance374 жыл бұрын
@@lynp5988 Hi Lyn when I say ceramic I mean the entire plate and all layers of the plate.and the heating element as well. They would be very expensive at least $300. Hot Tools claim ceramic but it's not the same as say The Runway by FHI Heat (discontinued now though). Titanium tends to break the s-bonds in the hair down. So if you want to go back and forth between your natural curl and straight you could lose a.lot of your curl pattern. I'm in Los Angeles and we still press with combs and I get a great result for my natural clients. Also products plays a huge role. I love Mizani's Thermasmooth line for presses because it repels humidity helping hair to last longer. Also you may need a great protein treatment. Have you had one lately? A good hot oil (you can just use coconut oil) can make a difference.
