I’ve been guilty of doing the bare minimum, particularly revising material I already know, to boost my ego and avoid challenging myself. This video gave me some great motivation to get my butt into gear and lean into things that are hard!
@anitakrzeminska36372 жыл бұрын
Actually, busting your ego is super useful! It makes you more confident, which helps write tests better. So I actually recommend making yourself feel more confident just before the exam. It’s better than revising till the last moment and realising how much you still don’t know!

Summary 😊🌼✨ Biggest study myths: 1. Studying over long periods non-stop 2. Thinking that highlighting helps us to memorize 3. Re-reading, 4. Studying wherever (eg., in bed) 5. Not setting study goals 6. Studying only easy subjects that we like 7. Multitasking 8. Studying in isolation 9. Thinking that understanding means knowing

This was really helpful! i’m someone who studies for hours but i realised i’m only really copying out textbooks and not actually using active recall. I was frustrated because I thought i was studying well and i didn’t achieve grades I wanted but now I’m going to use SAAD and take your advice into account. I am actually looking forward to studying these new methods now to boost my grades. Thank you. And anyone reading this you are doing great and good luck for your exams :)

This video made me realize that I should use spaced repetition more rather than studying without breaks or only to memorize for a test. I always got good grades so I never really worried about how I studied, but next year I start university so I want to change the way I do it to be more efficient and prioritize learning instead of worrying about getting high marks

Hey Jade, here's a message for u: ✨ I recently read ur book and let me tell u- Thank you so much! For having written this book, and publishing it. For giving me the advice, motivation and guidance I needed. I'm not a fan of self-help books, but I've always loved ur videos so I decided to give this book a go. Right from the first page, I knew my decision had been right. 😄 The way u have written the book, it's like u are talking to a friend, and I could imagine u speaking those words to me! The book felt like a warm hug and a reassurance that I can succeed at my studies. And those chapters on fear of failure, dealing with results, mental health...I read these chapters at a time when I really needed it. "You will succeed, you will be loved and you will have a future, a good one." I can't emphasize how much those words meant to me, Jade. Thank you SO MUCH for this! ❤ Lots of love, ~♡ PS: I started using blurting while revising for my upcoming exams, and active recall makes ALL the difference! 🙌

I like how you applied your own tips throughout the video. Repetition, recall, giving the information for us to easily learn using the information you're teaching us.
@ImprovementGang2 жыл бұрын
One of the biggest game-changers, whenever I am listening to a lecture, is creating mindmaps inside my mind. I make icons of each meaning and I connect them. It can get messy if the topic is complex, but I find myself much more engaged, and it actually helps me recall the information.

I always unconsciously start studying wherever I feel like to and not at a fixed place. But now, I am going to sit and study at a particular place only. Thank you for busting the study myths Jade! This video is really very helpful and served as a good reminder to me to start improving my study strategies. Hope you create more such videos 💫

things i deeply struggle with: (1) when studying, the moment i find something to be challenging or boring, i reach for my phone and scroll through social media. i don't know if this is my brain telling me i need a break or if its because i don't like being challenged -- so how do i combat this?? (2) also for breaks, like what should one be doing in their break? usually i reward myself with going on tiktok, but i end up getting sucked into it and struggle getting back to work and this has become a daily pattern for me; i've realized :'). and finally -- (3) how do i compile an effective schedule or timetable -- like how do i know that i am putting enough time for my readings, or if i'm not giving myself enough breaks, if i'm under-ambitious with planning or over-ambitious
@overexplainedgameguides43572 жыл бұрын
Tiktok's made to be addictive. I personally don't think it's a good app to use, but maybe you find value in it that I probably don't find. Try placing your phone in a separate room or handing it to your parents until you're done studying. I think exercising a little and eating/drinking healthy food, such as water or fruit or nuts, is good in a break. I'm not sure about timetables. I don't follow them as I tend to quickly not use them. Another thing as well: I think people try to sugar coat this too much, but the truth about studying is that it's just boring a lot of the time, and there's not much way around that.
@overexplainedgameguides43572 жыл бұрын
@Rameen Honestly, I didn't think of that. I don't own a high end phone, I literally have a 'drug' phone. There might be apps you can use to block other distracting apps like social media for as long as you're going to be studying for, but I don't know about them. Maybe also try becoming more knowledgeable about the not so great things about some social media apps, and perhaps outright delete some of them if they provide no value and waste time.

This video is sooo helpful! I’ve been watching your videos for the last 4 months while I was preparing for a huge exam, but I must confess I would look at your advices on doing more dynamic methods of absorbing content and I’d feel kinda lazy to do that. By that time I would do looong hours of only reading, highlighting and writing notes, until I finally had the exam and most of it only felt familiar to me, but I couldn’t remember precisely ‘cause I didn’t actually KNOW the answers. It was very frustrating. After that I’ve added revision cycles, mind maps, Q&A and flashcards (all Jade’s advices I ignored before lol) to my routine and now I feel like the content I’m studying is actually becoming my own, not like “omg, I hope I remember this while I’m doing my exam”. I’ve felt kinda fearless like now I KNOW things instead of just trying to memorize it and hope I don’t forget it. It feels empowering tbh :) Thank you so much for sharing your advices with us, Jade. It has really motivated me. I feel like, after finding your channel, I’ve started to actually love studying instead of just doing it as a liability. Besides, I didn’t know Markup, that’s surely one more useful tool. Gonna check it out right now :)

Every time I want to study I go to my desk BUT I ussually create stuff(crocheting, really like making earings, painting, just making stuff with my hands:) sitting at my desk as well. And I love doing those with music on, maybe audiobook and just relax while doing stuff I like! And as you said my brain is thinking: NICE!! Time for relaxing crochet and audiobook sesion:)) And than I give him math(strugling with math..) he doesn't like it... These are the myths I fall prey to the most. I willingly prioritise my other activities before school so I don't set any academic goals - as a result I often don't even study the knowledge I actually value and would like to ingrain in my brain for longer usage - so that might be my goal, learning at least the things I find valuable while using good, SAAD techniques. I also jump between things often so I don't manage to really do a bigger part of the work I'm doing, that's kinda close to multitasking. My desk is a mess rn so for having a good study space... Up to now I've been often learning things in isolation and I'm glad you pointed out the difference associations make. And answering this for myself thoroughly is the first step to change for the better, yay

Regarding the long study hours, I feel that for some exams it is sort of necessary. I mean, obviously, breaks are extremely important, but if someone is using active methods to study and is taking breaks then I feel that there's no harm in studying for long hrs. in my case, in India we have the NEET, IIT JEE exams and the syllabus is so huge that if we don't dedicate enough time, it just won't be enough. SO I feel that studying hard and smart is the ultimate method for these exams where selection rates are below 1%

I have trouble scheduling time for spaced repetition. also, if you can't physically go somewhere different for studying than where you do your leisure activities, you could always set up rituals specifically for studying. you could join online study groups, such as those on discord, use a specific color lightbulb, listen to a particular type of white noise, watch real-time "study with me's," etc...

But hey, I'm working on it now 😉 Also, I didn't set a goal for myself, sometimes I do but I eventually forget abt it. Yes, I'm writing down my academic goals for 2022 right after typing down the comment. IF YOU'RE READING THIS, THIS IS YOUR CALL, SET GOALS IF U HAVEN'T!! the most popular myth imposed on nowadays is probably multitasking. I've heard a lot of *just to proceed with learning a language unconsciously and (wow) beneficially you may put your phone on the background, then open random film on YT and meanwhile do anything you desire*. But, hell, after months of this alleged strategy i realized i wouldn't grasp much from that. and finally I've met with an adequate approach towards it :)

I just finished my year 12. Im from Australia so that is my final year of school. in terms of the multitasking - even during exam preparation and exam study I would have a show on in the background. I wasn't actively listening to it but I did like having the noice is the background simply because silence makes me uncomfortable. but because I put on the same show every time I definitely noticed that I has classically conditioned myself, and whenever that show came on I would feel like studying or even want to study. so although there are probably better ways Like having a certain playlist on etc. I don't regret it!! it definitely made me study on days I really wasn't feeling it aha. love you videos 💜💜💜 they were Sooo helpful during my final 2 years of school. and I will definitely be applying them to my upcoming nursing course 💙

I definitly need a goal, some sort of motivation so I can endure it and hopefully learn more effective. There are days like today where I regret my decision to choose this subject but in the end I'm glad I did so. Life without a challenge wouldn't push me out of my comfortzone.
