As a doctor, I find this analysis to be highly accurate and reflective of the challenges we face in the medical field. I often discuss similar concerns with my interns and students, especially those who have just entered medical college. One major issue we are currently facing is the government's decision to increase medical seats without ensuring that new medical colleges are equipped with basic facilities. This shortfall is not only affecting the quality of MBBS education but also undermining the competence of future doctors. We already have a strong healthcare outreach through PHCs, CHCs, and district hospitals in rural areas. Instead of expanding seats without proper infrastructure, the government should prioritize upgrading the existing facilities and enhancing the quality of training. Furthermore, creating more job opportunities for doctors is critical. Regularly advertising job openings on a fixed timeline each year would ensure better workforce management and career stability for medical professionals.

If you go to any doctor with good setup, you will have to wait for long hours and pay high consultation fee to get a prescription, and in govt health centres many times doctors are missing and situation is very bad people have lost trust in them so anyone who can afford go to private doctors and hospitals. Medical procedures are very expensive many times leading to financial ruin of familes. So increasing no of doctors will lead to increase in competition and subsequent reduction in treatment charges.

Thank u sir for highlighting the issue. Already face kar raha hu. I'm from Assam. After completion of my MBBS & rural service I was unable to find job for almost 1.5yr as there is no vacancy in private hospitals. Also Govt. job vacancy ads come once in a year which has also limited vacancy & quota. After so much hurdles I finally got one in govt sector. More than 2/3rd of applicants didn't get any job and are frustrated. Still the Govt. is planning to open medical college in every district of Assam but is not giving any eye in creating jobs or upgrading the rural hospitals. Medical Colleges are necessary but the backbone is rural health. If things are cured in preliminary stage lots of burden can be eased off. Also the WHO Doctor:patient ratio is more applicable in developed countries as the affluent population of 1000 can support 1 doctor. But in India people visits doctor at last after all failed attempts of self medication. Also the Govt. dissolved MCI so that they can rampantly establish new medical college . Its all about commission.

Young doctors are preferring to practice in urban areas , no one wants to go in rural areas .

If you have seen the videos of Mr. Peri Maheshwar of career 360 it will be very clear that quality of doctors are poorer as only rich can afford the medical education. Bottomline is there is no plan developed by the government. 2038 is very near and we are yet reap the demographic dividend. Last but not the least , today specialised doctors are available in cities only i.e. in pockets through out India. Medical facilities are not available even in the nearby districts. Even IT sectors developed in pockets of India. If the development of opportunities are not uniformly distributed pan India the opening of plethora of engineering and medical colleges will lead to a glut of unemployability

When (Number of solvers)(doctor/Engineer/lawyers) supply >>>>> (demand created by available problems in market), it causes unemployment in that particular field as decades ago demand>> supply for Civil, Mechanical engineers, but now these filelds are saturated, let's see how much longer IT, medical remains in demand so that there are enough jobs in the market. No industry is safe from economic principles.

This is so true. In Nepal our govt reduced the number of medical seats as the resources were not enough to educate manu students, the doctors unemployment was on a rise, plus the medical colleges were getting more corrupted so the govt reduced the seats of mbbs, bds, bsc nurisng. Govt even shut down many nursing colleges. But the Govt was pressurised by Dr Govinda who was under hunger strike for months and many students were on strike with him. He was against the high medical school fees, lack of quality education, hike in number of seats and corrupt distribution of medical seats, and it is mandatory to give liscence exam after working for minimum of 6 months, even if you graduated from the country though this was applied way before the strike. In Nepal if you do mbbs from china you have to do a rotating internship of 1 year then only you are allowed to give lisence exam. Plus many of the medical colleges are not recognised by our universities so you cant just get a degree and start working in medical colleges. Even after getting the lisence you have to actively get involved to get a CPD point. There is one lisence exam after bachelors, another after your residency MD and another after your specialization like DM. After many strikes, we saw a change even if you have alot of money you cant get into medical colleges without a good rank. I think this things must be addressed by the people from the faternity and they must act together to pressurise the govt.

That's what I was thinking that one day there will be lakhs of people having an mbbs degree. I think since we are fulfilling the demands of population of India as of WHO by providing more than 14 lakh doctors government needs not to increase this number otherwise employment of doctors would result Instead, government should enquire about the condition of hospitals and corruption in medical organizations should be regulated

Number of doctors in India should increase. India is still way behind in doctor to population ratio. It is true that when this happens, the doctors will not be as rich compared to other professions as they're now. It's natural that as the country progresses, the difference in incomes between the blue collar and white collar jobs even out, as more people become educated. This should happen in the field of chartered accountants and company secretary also. But they artificially limit the number of people who pass these exams
