I am late millennial (born b/w 1990-93), and been married for 4 years. I want kids, but I can not afford to raise them, and this is despite working a government job since 2016. Problem is that parents' do not have any source of income to maintain themselves in the old age, so I can afford to either raise a kid or to take care of aged parents. Best would be 0 children. I am older than you. But decided to not marry and have any children ever. Most people think of children as DNA of their future. They never think what all problems their unknown new soul / child will go through in their future life... But it's upto you. Nobody's stopping you. Law of Karma is supreme. My humble advice would be to have children only after realizing the highest purpose of life such that parents are able to answer 100% of all questions that children ask about their purpose of life. The generations before 1995 caused a havoc, they overused the resources, polluted the environment to the fullest possible extent. They started families when they were incapable of managing families which resulted in toxic parenting, domestic violence and other types of crimes in society. Women almost wasted their whole lives. Maid that come to my house once told me her tragic story, and i was devastated listening toh her, as she suffered domestic violence on daily basis, because her husband was alcoholic and this is a common story of lot of indian households. People marry as they think it is the only way of Living and later when they are unable to handle things, they simply spread toxicity and then they force the same on their children. This is a vicious cycle and it's good that the people are realising it now.

Smaller families healthy families healthy mothers. childbirth is physically draining and even dangerous on women.. not to mention women in the past did not have even basic rights and oftentimes they were forced into multiple pregnancies which are quite harsh on women's bodies, not to mention maternal and infant mortality rates were higher. Living standards were poor for the most people except for the few rich ones.
