As an Indian working in Gulf, most of the peope be it from South India or North India uses Hindi as communication between the states people unless the person found educated they communicate in English or local language if the person belongs to their local state. I as a kannad person uses Hindi communication with Andhra , Goa or any other state person.

There is no national language in the Constitution. The Supreme Court doesn't have the power to declare any official language as the national language. Only the Parliament of India can do that.

The honorable judge is slightly incorrect. As you noted, in Art. 343 it is clearly stated that both English and Hindi are official, not national, languages of our country. Furthermore, according to Article 348, the Supreme Court will continue to use the English language until Parliament notifies it otherwise by law. Otherwise, the official language of the court is English.

Keep Sanskrit as National Language if the issue is you dont want English to connect India. I would gladly accept and learn it. But learning state language and English are Important. English is the buisness language and its a must. We being a large English speaking population is what gives us edge against countries like China. Its a big contributer to our GDP.

This is also true that there's not a single language which can define entire Southern part of India but if you consider rest of India Hindi is understandable and is readily spoken although Hindi is not the mother tongue of many states. Although we shouldn't ignore the importance of other old languages.

Making one language as the national language will supress other language's importance. India is a union of states and states were formed based on languages. Every state has its own language. I think everyone must learn 3 3 language (1) Native state lang. (2) english for international communications (3) Hindi for intra state communications. Before British arrival Sanskrit was the common language in Bharat ....Then they gave the race theory Aryan and Dravidian ....n then they banned Sanskrit in the southern part of India and promoted English in every new school with strict rules ....that's the reason why u see high literacy rate in South ....which is defined by one regional language and English.

People will talk in English rather than in Hindi. English is a foreign language whereas Hindi is a Indian language. Hindi doesn't belongs to North Indian states. They have their own languages. But Hindi is a common medium of conversation. Whole India should adopt it.
