To reduce trade deficits, India should try and ensure that low value, high volume imports are substituted locally, as they may be easiest transitions to make since they are human capital intensive, plus boosts a huge domestic consumption appetite. Meanwhile, increasing capabilities in developing high value products which would need long term plans, should be done in collaboration with global market leaders, so that the transition time can be reduced and catchup can be faster.

Majority PSUs should be privatised and the government should keep only those PSUs which are very very important for India's interest. Privatisation of PSUs will result in the workers in it to enjoy more purchasing power as the immediate salaries is more in private companies which is ultimately better for Indian economy in general, also it will relieve the exchequer from financial burden of pensions, and will also help to eliminate inefficiency.
