Im confused as why pivoting didn't take place, rather you went straight into gauss elimination. I assumed pivoting would always be used but is there a certain condition for when pivoting should take place first?

If you go through our numerical methods course I walk through Gauss Elim, then introduce partial pivoting and do examples with pivoting. I wanted to show how straight Gauss is performed before introducing another step that may confuse some students that are new to the algorithm.
