Something important to note: If you are cutting out a shape that is asymmetrical, double check that your template is flipped the correct way on the vinyal wrap. Otherwise, you'll end up with mirrored images of the wrap. in my case, I fudged this step TWICE when wrapping my HDD and HUE+ Here's an imgur album to show what I'm talking about: m.imgur.com/a/XtYms Note the template for the HDD isn't revered on the backside of the vinyal wrap... yeah, don't do that!

This is the exact idea I had for stereo Hi-Fi components! I had no idea video of this existed until I came across this. My question would be what if it comes down to the individual buttons on stereo Hi-Fi components? For instance if the buttons are a dark grey or black and I want them to be silver or white, would I be able to place vinyl wrap over the button itself possibly using an exacto knife? The problem is the buttons aren't metal they are usually plastic. Thanks.
@ALittleDIMM7 жыл бұрын
+CeeStyleDj That'll work! You'll almost definitely need to cut away the excess, and a heat gun or blow dryer will help in getting the vinyl to curve around the button a little more easily. It might take a while, but it can be done!

Applying the heat gun to the hard drive is why i did not do this. I have applied this stuff many times in auto applications but not on sensitive PC components.. is it safe?
@ALittleDIMM7 жыл бұрын
If you keep the heat gun far enough, it really doesn't get hot enough to be concerning. You can see my hand was just another inch and a half away or so from where I was aiming on the drive, and it didn't feel hot enough to be uncomfortable to me. It's also a pretty quick process, the vinyl was ready within less than a minute or so, so it's not like it's being subjected to that heat for too long. Both drives I wrapped are still working, so I'd consider it pretty safe ;)
@yuvals30277 жыл бұрын
Steven you wrapped your DAC , you could open the DAC and then put the vinyl so it looks like it folds into the device so there no signs that you cut the vinyl and it will look like it came that way (with the aluminium like black texture)
@ALittleDIMM7 жыл бұрын
I could have definitely tried that! Though, I'm not 100% sure how it comes apart, and since I only have one, I didn't want to risk blowing it up, LOL

For GPU Backplates,paint like Rustoleum Enamel Paint would be better than Vinyl wrapping.That or cutting out and painting a custom backplate to put on top. On an unrelated note,I'd actually like to see a Wallpaper Engine+Rainmeter combo made by you.I like your aesthetic choices for the setup. :)
@ALittleDIMM7 жыл бұрын
I've got a video on custom backplates, too! Or acrylic in general, at least. As for Wallpaper Engine and Rainmeter, I'm not so certain that'll happen. I've tried Rainmeter a while back and I liked it enough, but now that software like NZXT CAM and Corsair LINK exist, I don't really need it any more, since I used it for primarily monitoring, anyway. But maybe someday when I've got some free time!
@c0ldshock9277 жыл бұрын
I see. I've been researching rainmeter not to monitor but get get something my desktop look better though :) Time to find that acrylic video.

I used vinyl wrap fairly frequently in the past to cover obnoxious brand logos and such. I hate self-advertising on my devices, and they don't even pay me for the ad space! I'm thinking about covering my mouse in vinyl wrap now, because I can't stand the Roccat Nyth logo and the grey surface of the mouse they say is "black", but I have no idea if it would be flexible enough to cover the mouse surface without wrinkles, or thick enough to not let the LED shine through.
@ALittleDIMM7 жыл бұрын
If you heat up the vinyl enough, it should be able to cover the curve of the mouse, but you'd have to do some aggressive stretching, I think. I can't say for sure that it'll cover up the LED, though. If you decide to do it, good luck! If it doesn't work out, there's always paint!
@dominic.h.33637 жыл бұрын
So I'll definitely need a heat gun. Okay, thanks! I just remembered I can disable the LED for the logo, so that's one issue less to deal with.
@Facehate6667 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea for covering up the horrific tribal tramp stamp logo that Corsair used, which I unfortunately rolled for my K70, can't do much about the mouse without covering up the LED, though.
@ALittleDIMM7 жыл бұрын
Aaaaahhhhh, that logo, LOL. Corsair's equivalent to the tattoo you got during your angsty years that you'd eventually come to regret!
@Facehate6667 жыл бұрын
What were they even thinking? Sails makes sense for corsair 'cause their brand name is related to ships, not tribal tramp stamps!

How difficult would it be to wrap a curved monitor? I love my monitors but I'm shifting to a pastel vaporwave kind of vibe and black and red no longer matches (I was on a sith kick for awhile and it looked sick)

I did my focusrite too, black wood grain to match my desk and it looks great. I started from the bottom next to the rubber feet personally, and pulled it as I smoothed cross it gradually with my fingers. If anyone else attempts this, I'd suggest cutting excess of maybe 5cm on the edges, and then carefully saw with one of those sharp knives (the one you can slide out and snap off). To finish off, I'd also suggest using a permanent marker carefully around the edge, because the red can show slightly. Makes a hell of a difference, and here's an image of mine if you're curious: cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/817435266217410560/864641589653143572/IMG_20210713_235550.jpg
