im also seeing more people really love the hunter rain boot, so i think that'll blow up and im really loving plaid rain boots specifically, more 60/70s fashion and haircuts, especially more shorter hair/updo's and i hope to see more silver/white hair. with officecore and 90s minimalism back, i hope to see more turtleneck incorporated and layered looks and more jacket dresses plus matching sets like suit set for women.

The faux fur vs fur discourse always seemed very clear to me. Secondhand fur is 100% fine to me - the animal is already dead and the processing is already done, the most practical way to honor that animal's death and stay warm is to wear it. I personally would feel completely comfortable purchasing new fur from indigenous sellers whose ethics and methods are sustainable. Faux fur on the other hand is literally just plastic.
@CarolineTucker

yes omg I'm so happy you brought up the indigenous aspect of fur because it's apart of some cultures and I think it's really disrespectful when people demonize fur without taking that into account!

I agree but at the same time...I bought a secondhand real fur vest that was relatively new, made in the last 2 years. is that really so different from buying directly from the supplier? Since in the end me wearing this real fur contributes to the way real fur will stay in fashion, and other people will continue to buy it new bc it is widely worn and considered fashionable, and companies will see there is a clear demand for these things. so it's still harmful? would love for someone to disprove me on this

Yeah but when you wear a vintage fur and look great, it will make it a trend and people will then demand real fur to buy as a consequence and you wearing it does facilitate it I'm sorry. I also had a beautiful purple vintage fur I just couldn't wear because of that. Theres no way to know if someones fur is new or vintage fr. Best left to those indigenous ppls cultures.

@@en2336 tbf in this economy, almost no one can afford to buy a new fur coat, the vast majority will buy used or fake. fur has pretty much never gone out of style (although ethical concerns made fake fur the more popular choice in recent decades) so i don't think we should worry about "making it a trend" when it has always been a popular look. i agree that fake fur is worse for the environment, however if the garment has already been made it's better to use it than let it sit in a landfill. fake fur can't really be washed in a washing machine so the risk of it shedding microplastics into the water is less than other synthetic materials. in terms of real fur, there's no denying that the manufacturing process is extremely cruel, but quality garments will last a looong time so getting either real or fake seems ethical to me as long as it is used and not new

THANK YOU for talking about wearing fur and not trying to hush it up! Personally I wouldn't wear it now because i think that i could still promote fur by wearing it or because it could influence people, even subconsciously, to buy fur and maybe they would get a new and not a vintage one. But I still very much appreciate your take on this and the most important thing is that we don't actively support these companies that make money from extreme exploitation of innocent individuals.

You have inspired me to take out my Daddy’s 1968 rust colored suede fringe knee length jacket. 3 layers of fringe baby! I have a cute olive romper with orangish flowers the same color as the coat. Paired with Mary Jane pumps in the same 60’s vibe and color as the jacket! OMG! I’m gonna look ahmazing! Speaking of stream of consciousness. Thanks for the inspiration, Doll! Who knew I was a fringe girl, on clothes that is. Fringe is regularly found on my forehead. Keep up the gabbing! It’s good stuff!

I figured out that I’m a zebra & tiger print girly last year, I’m obsessed with fringe too, I want to do a cool denim skirt diy and I’m trying to get more into the whimsy goth aesthetic. Mostly accessories, I haven’t gone full out clothes yet but maybe one day. I love my cow print phone case, I have nail strips, my wallet is also 🐄 (Thank you, Velvet Caviar!) My cosmetic bag, things like that. I think cow print works best as an accessory but it’d be fun to maybe make something work as a statement piece.

The fur issues are, most leather items are a byproduct of the meat industry. Therefore no extra animals are killed to make the leather jacket. To make a fur jacket, more and mostly wild animals are killed, just for their fur, their bodies are often discarded on the spot as waste. Some of these animals are also endangered. By wearing vintage fur, you are indirectly helping to keep this industry going as fashion trends dictate what items will be manufactured and if fur becomes fashionable again, even if you are wearing vintage, it will drive the demand up for new fur products from people who don't want secondhand items, which is a lot of people.
@CarolineTucker
@CarolineTucker 9 ай бұрын
I see what you’re saying but in my experience people aren’t buying real fur first hand…at least not a single person I know! It’s very expensive and I think a lot of the people who participate in trend cycles are more likely to get more affordable faux fur! I think stressing “vintage fur” with this is important but that’s just me!
@Rollie-go
@Rollie-go 9 ай бұрын
Real fur does not have to be purchased by a large percentage of todays population to have a disproportionately large impact on often endangered wildlife that are targeted to create the garments that are produced. Making that industry acceptable, even tangentally, just to wear an old fur jacket, is denying the strength of fashion trends have which we are all susceptible to, including the wealthy.

I have several Fur coats that I inherited from my mom. I moved to Europe and have worn them during the winter. My mom lived in a hot climate and always said she regretted buying them. I feel like I’m paying her ‘Karma’ tax. I stay warm at 10 degree Fahrenheit. I have a self sufficient farmer relative who opened my mind to the ethics of animals. He said, “How do you prevent the mice from eating your garden?? You have to set traps to prevent them from eating your carrots. You need ducks to eat the slugs that will eat your lettuce. There is no such thing as vegetarianism in nature.” Mind blown 🤯. He only eats what he produces and lives off very little money. Plants trees to reduce his carbon footprint when he flies a plane. Rides his bicycle only in rain/snow/shine. Uses everything from his sheep, makes his own wool, drinks the milk, skins the animal to make rugs and coats. Nothing goes to waste. If there is a surplus of apples he only eats apples for months and nothing else. He actually prefers it that way. You could say that it’s extreme. To some people it is. All you can do is realize that life is not black and white. There’s a GRAY area too. I don’t want or need new fur. Vintage fur is the gray area for me. It’s there and I feel I should use it. I don’t think I could stomach skining an animal myself. My relative always says he’s in a bad mood when he kills his sheep.

Just want to point out that mink fur is not equivalent to cow leather. Cow leather is often a byproduct of the meat industry (which I am not happy for either, I am a vegetarian). Mink, chinchilla, lynx etc are specifically hunted or raised for exploiting just their fur, leading to a series of unethical and illegal animal treatment. This is another level. Buying new fur product is definitely a NO to me. After, regarding the poor girl who was rejected to the restaurant, it’s the choice of the manager, I don’t think it as a problem as long as he/she was polite and respectful (I think it’s self-deceiving to say it’s because she/he is jealous).
