The only one I passionately disagree with is elasticated trousers, and that’s mostly from an accessibility standpoint. I change size quite a lot, and I badly bloat after eating, so the bottoms that fit me before a meal are a completely different size than the bottoms that fit me after. Also, I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user, which means I use a wheelchair but can walk a bit, and your size sitting down is very different to the size standing up. Trousers that are tight sat down are incredibly loose standing up. Elasticated trousers solve this issue!
@fionajanek10 ай бұрын
As a plus size person, having stretchy clothes is the only way that companies can be slightly size inclusive without having to extend sizing. If my dresses didn't have stretch, most of them wouldn't fit me, other than some second hand ones. What is lazy is companies not extending sizing or only having them online. I will say it's a win for me when I see a pretty dress that only goes up to XL, BUT it has stretch. ESPECIALLY with skirts most of mine wouldn't go past my hips if they didn't stretch! (Also I'm not trying to hate or anything, just offering some perspective from a plus size fashion girly)
@hannahcummings786010 ай бұрын
I am an apparel designer and I can personally say that it is soul crushing to have to add shirred backs and half linings to clothing but it is to save $$$. The best way to let companies know that you would like to stop seeing these on their clothing is to leave a review / comment on the website. At least at the company I work for, those comments are actually taken seriously especially if there is more than one complaint.

So I actually do work in fashion design /manufacturing so re: the lining in skirts. It's about fabric consumption. It is more expensive to line the whole length rather than a half lining because of the fabric consumption. Shorter = less fabric = less $$$ Sure it might not seem like it matters in 1 skirt but multiply that difference in length by thousands of garments and it becomes very significant. hundreds of yards potentially significant. I agree it doesn't look great but that's why.

when trying to find your personal style and avoid overconsumption and microtrends it actually really helps, at least for me, to have a list of things you will absolutely never buy! being a hater can be a good thing sometimes. i have a long list of hated items, including but not limited to: -capris -cap sleeve tops, or any top where the sleeve is not roomy -anything beige -that horrible cheap 2010s fabric with a print on only one side of it -flowy tops made of the aforementioned ugly fabric with a kind of macrame-ish neckline (i dont know if i'm describing this well but they were everywhere like 10 years ago... think coachella via forever 21) -any clothing with colour blocking intended to be "slimming" -any logos or branding other than a band t-shirt -stretch denim that gives a "scrunchie effect" to your legs -peplums -white sneakers -sweatpants -sparkles, glitter and sequins (unless used in a subtle way, like a glittery charm on a bag or something, a vintage dress with sequin details for a fancy party etc) -thin sweaters that aren't warm (unless i intend to wear it solely as a top) -bags without a shoulder strap -anything neon pink, yellow or purple (neon green and orange are the only acceptable shades) -stiletto heels, or any heels over 3" without a front platform, or basically any uncomfortable heel that causes your foot to slant forward too much. chunky and reasonable height only -blue jeans, although y'all look great in them, and they are a classic - for me. it's black jeans or nothing. blue jeans make me look like your suburban granddad -maxi skirts - again, y'all look amazing, but i am short and fat and maxi skirts make my ass look like i traveled here by covered wagon w/ a malnourished baby on my breast -ANY CHEAP SHITTY FABRIC THAT CLINGS -gold or crystal jewelry - too expensive and doesn't look good on me, i love silver, stainless steel and acrylic/resin though -poofy sleeves -anything sporty -anything extremely basic or extremely complicated. aesthetics like clean girl/stealth wealth are incredibly boring to me, and overly fussy/intricate styles like lolita, goth, maximalist with 1000 accessories and layers can look beautiful but still reside firmly in my "ain't nobody got time for that" category

Ohhhhhh I have so many things. I love cropped tops but some are so weirdly short. I only wear high waisted bottoms and some of these cropped things nowadays don't hit my waist which is always weird. Any sort of spaghetti strap garment that cannot be adjusted. That weird cut that is a like... halfway point between flares and wide leg pants.. just no. Flip flops in general. People who wear scrubs in public. For me personally, t-shirts that have short sleeves is a no go, I always feel trapped in them. Anything polyester but especially companies like reformation acting like their dresses are worth $$$. Fabric blends that include a low percentage of wool. I'm allergic to wool and cannot wear it at all so finding sweaters is a nightmare. I just want cotton but often it will be a mix of poly, wool, and cotton for some reason. If you are going to use wool.. USE IT. High/low hems. The over abundance of gold hardware on bags and shoes.. I'm a silver girly. My BIGGEST hate is the massive amount of clothing that has bust lines sewn on that do not actually sit against the chest. I saw it on the red carpet recently and got enraged. Like a designer can't even be bothered to make a garment fit correctly? This is a specific online shopping complaint but companies calling things white that are not white. I can't wear cream/ivory tones (they pull really yellow on me) and UGH. Everlane is awful about this - and all their photos are edited warmer.
@CarolineTucker10 ай бұрын
okay biggest respect for taking the time to type this out and I agree!!! Also so many of the photos I used in this were from reformation’s website lol because I already like the “idea” of their clothes but the construction and quirky does not match the price 90% of the time like???

Not liking shirring is a valid take, but it being cheap/lazy is not, since it's an effective way to provide size exclusivity and get a close fit while mass-producing. Tailoring just doesn't make sense on a mass scale, since that would mean it's made to fit one specific body well so providing some amount of stretch is just a practical solutions. When you're talking producing in volume, the shorter lining does 'save' a ton of money- not only does it mean that they don't have to be as careful about having the end match up, but the yardage adds up fast. Also, you don't like sequins, the ones you like are paillettes!

My icks: wearing bras (supposedly crop tops) with an open jacket while it's freezing outside or full on leather blazer and tights during a 20° C weather, black socks with white sneakers, not opening the flap at the back of the jacket or the pockets after buying the coat or jacket, and my father taught me to dislike outfits where the dress or skirt underneath is longer than the coat on top (50s faux pas), and now I can't unsee it. Also, I too look violently ill with certain colours, so pastels, specially violet, and mustard, are banned from my closet.

I also love being a hater. You can only improve things if you're a hater. I also absolutely hate very short shorts. I used to think that I didn't liked shorts because they were too revealing and uncomfortable, but now I love longer shorts. I hate any almost kind of cut outs, especially in warm clothing like sweaters. What's even the point of a chunky sweater if you're going to put a hole on it? I am very specific with shoe soles and shoe hardware; I can't even explain exactly what I don't like, but I know when I see it. I hate inconsistent sizing and brands that try to greenwash their clothing by claiming their sweaters have natural fibers, when the content of natural fibers is 5%.
