I built this cabinet for a good friend of mine so she could store her kid's stuffed animals in one place. The "bars" on this stuffed animal zoo are bungee cords. I think it turned out pretty nice.

My daughter has Leukemia and we get stuffed animals or blankets daily. This is project is perfect. I am always looking for new ideas to try in the shop. I need to try to convince the wife into getting one of those domino tools. Great video. I can't wait to put one of those in my little girls bedroom and organizing all those toys.

This was fun to build as my first woodworking project! Thank you for posting the DIY video. I made my daughter’s slightly different but tried to follow how you made this one as much a I could. We added some figurines from Hobby Lobby to the front for decoration and I ran the bungee all the way from top to bottom rather than stopping in the middle. I would post a picture but I’m not sure how, lol. Again, thank you! I’m just now starting to get into woodworking (at the young age of 38) and I greatly appreciate the instructional videos!

Holy moly! I just made one almost exactly as this...... Mine was 6ft x 20in x18in.... No middle shelf, instead, I put a basket ball net on the top inside.. So the kids can make a game of cleaning their room... Also, rather than make individual lengths of bungees.. I made groves top and bottom and used 1 continuous bungee for the front and sides.. Wish I could post a pix... Great minds think alike I guess... lol....

Hi Freddy, your vlog on this was exceptional and I’ve made and presented the gift to my one year old granddaughter. She loved it and everyone was just SO impressed and wondered where I got the idea from ... I gave you full credit. My granddaughter decided at the party to become an animal and crawl inside, so before all the other kids cottoned on, we relegated it back into the SUV. The only thing is, I made a few significant changes to your design, but still kept the methodology intact. In place of it being high, with almost the same volume of usable area, I made mine waist height (about 900mm or 3 feet) and about 1200mm wide (approx. 4’) wide. I’m not sure how much weight was in yours, but I made sure that mine was not light - manly so that it wouldn’t be moved by kids too easily or knocked over, which is also the main reason I lowered your height design. At first I was planning on having a wall mount of some fashion to avoid any tipping hazard, but then I thought that a child (that would have such a piece of toy furniture) probably wouldn’t be able to reach quite that high. As it stands now the top surface can be used as an area to place any number of things. The only other variation, apart from what I’ve mentioned and obviously using different sized timber due to imperial sizes not being available here in Australia, was the covering of the black bungee cords. I had a neighbor who runs a dressmaking business from home sew up about 40 multi coloured cotton tubes (twice the length of the cut cord length) to go around the bungee and as it was installed the material was scrunched or gathered creating a very attractive look, plus it allowed the cords to be manoeuvred without revealing the cord. As soon as I find out how to send you a picture, which you eagerly ask for, I’ll send it to you. Cheers, Kriss (Down Under)

Great looking project. My wife and I both enjoy the projects we do as gifts for friends and relatives. Mostly, my wife creates paintings and I build the custom wood frames for them. I really enjoy your videos and admire your skill. I have always liked watching skilled craftsmen (craftspersons) at work. I like your "Zoo Cabinet" but can't show it to my wife yet 'cause she will want to "insert" it into my already-underway projects. Thank you for sharing your skill.

Freddy, is there a reason why you didn't just run the bungees the full length? Seems like you could have skipped the step of creating the knots and holes in the middle (where you cut and tied) and just run the cords from top to bottom?
@GotItMade
@GotItMade 9 жыл бұрын
+Annony Mouse Hey Annony. Brother, I don't really have a good reason for why I split the bungees. I've never done anything like this or even seen one in person so I wasn't sure if one long run would get hinky on one end or another. It probably would not matter but I didn't want it to end up being real tight on one end and loose on the other.

Great build! I've never even seen such a thing before, such a great idea. One question, with the bungee rope, is there a reason that you didn't run it from the top all the way to the bottom?? Does the integrity of the rope last longer if it has a shorter span??

That makes sense to me my friend. It occurred to me that if it ran the whole way, top to bottom, it might wear out in the middle from rubbing on the wood. I think you made it the smart way :)
