I'd like to throw in my vote to have an audio compilation of Rahdo reading everything, so it can become like an audiobook! My voice puts my wife to sleep....

Just picked this up to play with my two young ladies. Very excited. The oldest at 10 is going to be all about it, and my 7 year old is just going to be happy to be a part of the team.

Hey man, I know this is a few years old but your play throughs are some of my favorites to watch! I like Wil Wheaton's channel but his aren't as helpful for learning all the rules, more just for entertainment purposes and general overview. I'm one of those people who LOVES board gaming but is REALLY BAD at learning rules to new board games. Your videos really break things down to an intuitive level.

At 4:20 aren't you supposed to put the black threat dice back in the bag as well?

Probably yes

Hey wait what?! You're no longer the guy doing board game reviews with the lovely background view of Malta? That makes me sad. :( I used to think of that as my dream retirement. :)

one quick question, do you keep status card from one scene to the next ? or you lose the status card automatically when you enter in a new scene?
@rahdo4 жыл бұрын
hehe, i was going to direct you to the boardgamegeek rules forum for the game, but you already beat me there! :) boardgamegeek.com/thread/2404766/does-status-card-persist-between-different-scenes

Great runthrough, per usual. Hey Rahdo, quick question: Did you find the downtime to read the new rules for the pages disruptive to the expereince? ShutUpAndSitDown said that the breaks between pages were too long and that it'd be hard for a kid to sit through a parent grokking the rules, as the rules were (in their estimation) pretty hard to grok. If you don't mind, could you share your take?
@rahdo6 жыл бұрын
that seems like a non-issue to me, because if i were a parent wanting to play this with my kids, i'd simply read the 4 or 5 pages of the adventure before we all sit down to play, so i'd already know what special rules would be in place. or, i'd just play the game with the kids in 20 minute mini sessions, one page at a time, and then before we continue the story at a later date, i'd again read the single page we're about to play. most of the game plays pretty much the same anyway... maybe 1 out of every 5 pages has really different "mini-game" style rules that change things up radically. most of the time, it's like what i demonstrated in the runthrough: rooms to fight baddies through, with maybe 1 special little thing (like the rising water) which is very simple to grok and explain :)

That's more or less what I felt, in that I'd do the prep and push as far as possible, but I suppose they were looking at it from the point of view of going in fresh. I also think they had a real hard time with the rules for some reason, maybe they needed some extra clarity or something. In any case, thank you for alleviating my fears on this! :)

also worth noting, i think this would only be an issue in the first adventure. after you've gotten through it, you've got the game down pat pretty much, and a new rules come up, you could pretty readily "wing it" because you've got a feel for the flow of the game, so you probably wouldn't even need to do the advance prep moving forward - though it's always wise to :)

I have to admit, I fell prey to that when I first played with my daughters. We painted all the minis over one weekend and then I tried to play on Monday night. As I muddled through the rules, I lost them. I learned that I should've done what I usually do, which is play by myself first and have everything under my belt. PHG has lots of in-game videos and assistance but I would not make that mistake again. It's a simple game and very little actual threat but there are a fair bit of mechanics that you should know before playing.

Are the Seasoned Stuffies variants published anywhere, or can you post them?
@rahdo6 жыл бұрын
nope, they didn't want them posted until they've worked out final tweaks and all of that. but they said i could talk about it (and they're really simple so the descriptions i gave int he final thoughts vid covers everything) :)
@rahdo6 жыл бұрын
someone somed them up here: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1954775/seasoned-stuffies-100-un-approved and the designer posted in that thread that an official (perhaps updated) list will be coming from the pub next week :)

Official Seasoned Stuffies on their site here: www.plaidhatgames.com/news/876 In addition, free official Lost Story here: www.plaidhatgames.com/news/869 For completeness, I should mention they posted a coloring book as well that includes blank character sheets that you can completely create your own heroes with. You can also rename the existing heroes and color them however you like, or draw their own pictures. They really thought of everything here: www.plaidhatgames.com/news/867
