Should you purchase a dedicated saw for stump cutting? In this video I showcase how easily you can remove large stumps down to the ground with a proper stump saw setup and talk about why you would choose the clean cut of a long bar instead of making the same cut from both sides with a saw using a smaller bar.

Omg I absolutely love your opinion on what other people might think. Absolutely loved your reaction 😂🤣😂🤣😂. Where I live, in the upper peninsula of Michigan. When someone cuts down a tree. People hear the saw running, and come running with trailers to get the free wood to heat their houses for the winter.

No such thing as a bar to big, even cutting firewood I use long bar because I don’t wanna bend over to cut . I like saving my back instead of hunched over. I been cutting firewood and logging most of my life. I love that bar brother. You ain’t no dummy and those of us with experience and brains know that. The rest can shove a 36” up their arse if they wanna run their mouth lol. Love all your videos, yes I have suggestions at times but I also have questions. No matter how much you think you know you can always learn and teach. Oh and I love that you use saws that I don’t ❤️❤️❤️ gives me insight. Keep doing you my friend.

Oh and I’m not sure if you know or not but them long bars usually don’t oil themselves, get yourself a squirt can for stuff like that or a tip oiler for when your slabbing with an Alaskan mill

Oh and I only run gloves and safety glasses unless I’m felling then I toss a hard hat on, I cut more in one year then most do in their entire life.

When cutting stumps I have found that going with a 7 tooth sprocket and richen the saw mixture to slow the chain speed. Just let it chew slow. You can get practically cut on the ground without destroying the chain.

Love the Super Troopers reference there. I have seen tree guys take down a 5’ wide tree with a 36” bar. The plunge cut and spin around the tree and make a perfect cut. It takes practice.

With a big bar like that I prefer to cut a shelf for part of the bar to rest on and not even bother with a pilot (smaller bar) cut. Bigger bars are often 404 chain. I find they don't follow a 3/8 cut very well. Shelf will let you balance the saw/bar without fighting the weight. Also allows to go into the cut with high rpm, pivoting on the dogs to avoid bogging down. Bogging down and resetting is probably my number 1 cause of bad stump cuts - I get just impatient enough to make a visible difference.

I'm curious how you like the cylinder on this saw? I have a really nice 3120 that I bought with a scored cylinder and was wondering about aftermarket cylinders...OEM is very expensive but again this is a very pricy saw.....Could you give me some info on your 3120

I want to get a saw to do some milling. I will probably be using a 42 inch bar, so I can cut 36 wide. What would you suggest between a 3120 or a 592 ? I live in Washington state where maple is the hardest wood in the area.
@novicelumberjack
@novicelumberjack Жыл бұрын
I'd pick the 592, but it's possible that it might not oil enough. May need to run an external oiler setup. But the 3120 is near useless aside from milling, whereas the 592xp makes for an excellent big saw for normal use. The 3120 makes great power, but it's so big that you'll never want to use it. I much prefer the 592xp.

@nathanbigsby8731
@nathanbigsby8731 Жыл бұрын
Not true. Apparently you don't fall trees in the mountains. You cut parallel to the ground on a steep hillside, with a tree growing straight up, that's a disaster waiting to happen.
@nathanbigsby8731
@nathanbigsby8731 Жыл бұрын
Or even worse, a tree leaning to the uphill side. Just trying to imagine cutting parallel to the ground is such a bad idea.

Its called a manual oiler
@novicelumberjack
@novicelumberjack Жыл бұрын
It isn't a manual oiler. Thanks for the comment, but it's different. A manual oiler would be pumped repeatedly, this is not. It is attached to a cable that goes down to the oiler and somehow removes all restrictions for much more oil flow.
@novicelumberjack
@novicelumberjack Жыл бұрын
But I don't know...you could be right. But it wouldn't make sense to call it that. Manual would imply that the operator is pumping the oil, and that's not how it works.

The ones who say "you could have used a much shorter bar to get that done", are the ones who charge customers by the hour and don't have a 6ft bar. In other words, they're going to milk the hell out of the job, and a 6ft bar intimidates/scares them. Personally, I prefer a bar that'll make it through a tree in one solid cut. That's why they make bars in different lengths. If I wanted to whittle at something, I'd whip out my pocket knife and find a stick. LOL
