I'm sure you meant to say that the band saw fence magnets will hold to any FERROUS surface, of which cast iron is an example. You said instead that it will stick to non-ferrous surfaces.

The Carter Magfence II has been around for a long time, and together with the FAST system are phenomenal for fast setup. Taytools offerings are generally great, but there’s really no competition here. Plus, sitting through Alex Snodgrass demoing Carter products taught me more about the the bandsaw then everything else put together.

I am in retirement mode and still do some woodworking. I have several of these battery powered devices. The woodworking I do is for projects that take me a considerable amount of time and I don't use these battery powered devices very often. What I find is that when I do want to use one, the battery is dead. With that said I would advise anyone looking at a battery powered device to think about how often you would use it. For me now, I would choose the non battery powered device.

YAY! Another Kool teuls vid. Always enjoy them, and usually buy at least one. This time it's the analog router gauge and the vac hose. But I always appreciate hearing about new stuff, never know when a need will arise. Thanks for another happy time! Btw My ranking of router gauges. Digital scores 9 points for features and versatility. Analog scores 7 points... Plus 1,000 points for "no batteries", so 9 vs 1,007. (1:50 "hold on any nonferrous surface" He meant ferrous surface)

Harvey T-40 Lathe. Per Stump's advice, I just bought this lathe a few weeks ago and haven't used it yet. Turns out it is a 220v so I need to update my electrical outlet before I can use it. He never mentioned this and since my 2 prior lathes only used 110 outlets, I never once thought to research this before buying. Don't get me wrong, I still would have bought it......just thought I might let you all know this fact that was overlooked.

@1:45 non ferrous? I think you meant to say 'ferrous' James. A, analogue height gauge for saw and router makes a nice little shop project. Adhesive scale tapes are cheap as chips and available at most DIY stores. I had some 30mm X 3mm aluminium in my metal stock pile when I made mine, but hard wood would work. I have a lot of Chinesium tools including a digital height gauge for router and saw height setting, and a digital tire tread gauge that I have modified with a magnetic base for plane iron setting. They cost next to nothing from Bangood, and I use them constantly. I had intended to use my Bosch 1600CE table mounted using the fixed base, but it was not working well, so when the 240V Triton came back in stock I swapped it out and the Bosch now lives in its plunge base. It is now one of my favourite tool, and I especially love its fence micro adjust which is calibrated with Imperial and metric scales, and is dead on accurate.

That magnetic digital gauge can also be used when turning a flywheel on import cars such as toyota, honda, fiat, etc.... Many of them have a step on the face of the flywheel and that can be used to maintain the correct height while machining both surfaces. I still have my old one which has just a dial indicator on it.

At most office supply stores, you can also get a "Draftsman's Pencil" which is mechanical and simply has a thicker lead... It takes a little getting used to, since you hold the end bit down to loosen the grip of the barrel on the lead and adjust the "length" with a finger tip, releasing to let it clamp down... AND with thicker lead, there are times some fine sand paper is useful to bring it to a precision point... BUT for the obnoxious markings to break down or for stuff like framing and "rough cuts" it's a reasonable alternative to a carpentry crayon that you don't really need to carry about for anything else... Just a thought. ;o)

Question: Is there a shop tour video in the future? I notice you drop a few shots of layout sporadically throughout your videos like the creative corner in this video. I'm curious how you have your larger more commonly used tools positioned in relation to how the rest of the shop is oriented.

Shop tour videos draw too many angry comments from people who don't like to see expensive tools they don't have.

@@StumpyNubs it just gives them goals. Like going to the gym and seeing all the in shape people. But I get where you're coming from.

Why did you put a carabiner around the blade on your bandsaw?

You mentioned that the band saw fence will attach to any non-ferrous surface. I believe you mean ferrous surface.

I was interested in the bandsaw fence until I saw the price of $129.00. I have a 14" Delta bandsaw and I can buy the recommended fence, Kreg KMS7200 Bandsaw Fence, for the same amount, with free shipping.

I just ordered a Carter Magfence II, how does it compare to the one you show in this video, Thanks, Jack W
@StumpyNubs
@StumpyNubs 2 жыл бұрын
It looks similar in function, though I believe the Carter fence lacks the "T" part and may be trickier to align, especially if you have to compensate for drift. I have never used a Carter fence, myself.

James, have you looked at the JessEm 07305 Tool Setting Gage for Table Saw Router Table Drill Press Banddaw? How would this compare to the two iGaging setting gages that you showed? Although I would probably select the digital gage from iGaging.

I have a chicken and the egg problem for the shop I am planning. I want to build all of the shop tables and benches myself rather than buying any, especially a workbench. First I want to save money and be able to customize the bench to my space rather than my space to a commercial bench, and second so I can learn some of the techniques and skills making shop furniture before I make real furniture for the house. But to do this I need a good solid and stable workbench for routing, sanding, assembly, glue-up and finishing. Is the Bora spider surface with their worktops stable enough to allow me to build my first workbench? Or does it flex and wiggle so much that it won’t give me the stability to build a well aligned workbench?

The Centipede is very stable for power tool use (I don't think it's heavy enough for serious hand tool woodworkers). If it's going to be stationary, use a piece of plywood for the top. It'll be less expensive. The tops in this video are ideal if it has to be portable.

Maybe a noob question, but why the carabineer around the bandsaw blade?
@StumpyNubs
@StumpyNubs 2 жыл бұрын
It reminds me that the blade tension is released. When I activate the tension-arm, the carabiner goes on the handle.
