Coyote Peterson rarely gets nervous around the animals he encounters and is quite proud that he has never been stung by a scorpion before…but today that’s all about to change! On this episode Coyote is putting himself right in the strike zone and will intentionally take a sting from the Giant Desert Hairy Scorpion; the largest scorpion in North America! Yes that’s right, stung by a scorpion on purpose!
While seemingly foolish and NEVER recommended, the intention of this demonstration will aim to make the point that not all scorpions should be vilified as lethal killers. While it is true that some scorpions are incredibly dangerous the venom from the Giant Desert Hairy is really nothing worse than a bee sting. However, that’s not to say it isn’t creepy and nail biting…hold onto your seat…this episode is intense!

Noo they can also just wanna scare you. Many animals know there are venoumes creatures around. Maybe it was a (almost) dry sting. It really depend on the personality of the arachnid and if they feel they need to give much. The venom is for most part to take down prey without getting hurt and to scare preditors.

I think this is also a potentially useful video for people with fears. The animal is reluctant to sting, even after being handled, and once it does sting it's clear that it just wants peace and quiet. They're not murderous creatures intent on attacking you. I know temperament is highly dependent on species, and some are more aggressive, but across the board they will never bother you if you just respect their space.

When I was 13 our family moved to Las Vegas..from Long Beach, CA. No Mosquitos and dogs don't get flees here. We have scorpions here but its pretty rare to ever see 'em... Arizona tho!... That place is Las Vegas climate/wilderness on steriods. You guys even get giant sandstorms! WTF!

They look so cool. Especially under UV light. I found a Marbled Scorpion in some logs I brought inside for the fireplace. I took it back outside and let it go. They're pretty common in Australia, venomous but not deadly. I'm not sure how bad the sting is and I don't really want to find out either lol. Scorpions I don't mind. But the giant spiders and millipedes give me the creeps.

As someone whose been stung by one of those scorpions, he had the same reaction i did. Anything stinging you is gonna hurt, but their sting legit does feel like a bee sting, maybe just a bit more tingly cause the scorpion is thrusting its tail so there's force.

that was a desert hairy....do this with a bark scorpion and then talk to me. yes i was just stung by a bark scorpion about 40 hours ago and my foot only just now stopped tingling. I guess I was lucky, all i had was sharp throbbing pain at the spot for 3 hours and then my whole foot and the shin halfway up toward my knee felt like it was "asleep" for 37 hours.

yeah, I don't have any way of knowing how much venom was injected, but I do know it was a bark scorpion because this guy said himself that it is the only species in this part of the world that climbs. and the scorpions I've seen in my area like toclimb the walls so they must be bark scorpions, the one that stung me was on the floor(i had some dirty laundry on the floor that I forgot to pick up and it was hiding under it and I stepped on it in bare feet). It obviously injected some venom into me because my foot hurt for an hour and then it was pin and needles (like when you sit on it too long and it falls asleep) for 40 hours. the poison control center and the paramedics felt no need to administer any sort of treatment or antivenom but they did offer to take me to the hospital if I wanted to go but I declined. The poison control did tell me that I did the right thing in calling 911 and they also told me that just because I did not have a severe reaction the first time, that does not necessarily mean that I won't get one a second time. This guy, he seemed really scared even though that big one has a relatively mild sting, going as far as to have an epipen in backup just in case and in another video he actually free handles a bark scorpion and claims that even he himself was unwilling to provoke that one to sting him.

I've been stung two times in my life, once by a wasp and once by who knows what, I didn't see what it was, I was just chilling then I felt a sharp pain in my calf, I found some kind of stinger in my leg but I didn't see what it was that got me, it was weird cus I didn't do anything to it, I didn't even see it so what ever stung me, must have thought I was someone else...

I go daily scorpion hunting. I am currently studying these docile/aggressive arachnids(Depending on the species of the Scorpion.) And if you really do want to handle one of these arachnids, then please follow(if you want,) these 5 tips I will list below. 1. Scorpions are most active by dawn and sunset, but can still be found throughout the day. 2. If you find a scorpion with the Idea to catch it; DO NOT GRAB IT. You must lay your hand and arm out and allow the scorpion to crawl up. If they get too close to a certain area you do not want, block it's way with your other hand and try and wave it away from the area. 3. Apply no pressure at all to any part of their body, this will agitate them and will force them into an defensive state. 4. If in the state of them being agitated, please set them back where they once were; via setting your arm down towards the ground and allowing the scorpion to crawl off. 5. As the scorpion is already agitated, do not try and handle it again; this may lead to the scorpion taking you as an actual threat, and stinging you. With any case of an sting, you should see help depending on the spread of the venom and what species of scorpion it was. If this helped you in your scorpion-catching ways, then good job! If it did not, you may have broken one of the tips above. EDIT: I have also one more thing. A scorpion wont inject venom into you upon sting; although there is the small chance of the scorpion injecting a small amount of venom. They use their venom mostly for the prey they hunt; being small insects like roaches, ants, etc.
