That Ruby Topaz is a stunner!! The swallow tail was pretty cool too! I’m going to add this to places to visit in Brazil!

For those curious the "ABC" islands are comprised of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. A few years ago-prior to filming hummingbirds-I lived on Curacao for 6 months, then 6 months on Aruba the following year. If anyone is going to Aruba and would like a pointer on where to potentially see the Ruby-topaz, reach out to me.

if the Ruby Topaz isn't the official state or local bird somewhere in its range, it sure should be!

Stunning and such a short bill 🧡❤ What were those cactus looking flowers the Ruby Topaz was feeding on? They looked like sea anemone, lol.

Yes they were cactus flowers!

Exciting! I will be in Curaçao in a few weeks with intentions toward the Ruby Topaz as well. My number is quite a bit lower, of course. If I am lucky, it will be number 15 or 16, depending on which of the two species I see first. 242 is more like distant goals. :)

While I realize people need to make a living, the deforestation shown in this video is quite frankly, heartbreaking.

Yes heartbreaking and unfortunately all too common around the world. Even in countries like the US and Canada that often fancies themselves "advanced" logging is still at a fever pitch today.
