Stunning Lakes, Glaciers and Coastlines | Epic West Coast Roadtrip | New Zealand Guide #5

We begin our epic road trip around New Zealand's South Island in St Arnaud.
Starting with kayaks on Lake Rotoiti in Nelson Lakes National Park, we drive through the mountains and remote towns such as Reefton; until we reach Hokitika on the west coast where we enjoy a driftwood sculpture competition. From there we drive down the famously rugged coastline, avoiding avalanches and patched-up bridges to marvel at Hokitika Gorge and Franz Josef Glacier, on our journey to Haast.

straight up you went the wrong way at Inangahua junction. Heading to Reefton and not Westport for a drive along the West Coast, you missed half the province and some of the very best scenery we have to offer.

Yes definitely! Caths family only had a limited time for the road trip so we had to cut off some big chunks 😫 all the more reason to return in the future though!!

Reefon was the first place in NZ to get Electricity going, 4th August 1888 they had the whole town up running with Electricity

You missed putting up Greymouth the capital of the West Coast more than twice the population of Hokitika, The Blowholes halfway between Greymouth and Westport are Brillant, Lake Matheson halfway between Franz Joseph Glacier and Fox Glacier is Brilliant, Lake Brunner north east of Greymouth is a nice lake, Reefton on the West Coast was the first place in NZ to get Electricity going, They started getting electricity going on August 1st 1888, They took three days to get the whole town running with electricity on August 4th 1888 it was completed.
