I will give credits to the car it looks soo futuristic. This is what people in the 80’s would imagine how cars would look today. It has that cyberpunk/neonpunk aesthetic and I’m blown away. The best redesign ever made. Plus I am not buying EV’s gave up on that since they are not reliable, insane expense once they break down, not to mention lack of energy in the winter (you pray to God your car turns on) And the overall distance they aren’t practical on big travels while THIS BABY KNOCKS IT OUT OF THE PARK!

I’m a Hyundai owner having owned 3. Currently driving a 2019 Tucson Ultimate (US-spec), which I love. Really like the look of this refreshed 2025MY Sonata. The front end is far better looking than the previous “Catfish Face”, which I found unusual to say the least. The rear end fascia is also very attractive. I’ve owned 2 Sonata’s a 2015MY & 2016MY cars. They were both great vehicles, they were taken in for regular service at the dealership, and I had absolutely no issues cept a very minor one on my 2015 Sonata in which the infotainment head unit was replaced. No mechanical issues whatsoever. If I hadn’t become so enamored with SUV’s I might purchase this great looking Sonata. I’ll still arrange a test-drive as soon as they’re released for sale here in the US. Thanks for this review of an Aussie-spec’d Sonata. And btw friend the name Hyundai is pronounced like Sunday, not “Hy-undai” as you and your fellow Aussie car reviewer’s like to pronounce it! 😏
@4wheelsandaseat Жыл бұрын
It’s a great car - apart from me not being able to fit into it comfortably. Re: Hyundai pronunciation - the brand is pronounced differently in different markets and has changed over time. When the brand first came to Australia in the 80s they ran a campaign saying it was “Hi-ooon-die” and then in the 90s they changed it to the current “Hee-un-day”. Nissan and Mazda also have different pronunciations here.

I own a 2021 pre-facelift Sonata N Line, I absolutely love it, plus the fact that there’s not very much of them on the road just makes it that extra special. For 55k it is an absolute bargain, if this had 4 circles, a fancy star or red, blue, white colours inside its logo it would’ve costed easily 30k more than its asking price. The features you get inside the car are fantastic, sure it’s not Rolls Royce luxury standard but for what you get and the materials inside on the seats and the cabin and steering it’s fantastic. And the performance of the car is a blast, it honestly is a rocketship FWD tyre shredder, I think of this car as a “mature” man’s WRX, Civic Type R etc…, the performance feels very hot hatch and it is proper quick, that 2.5 turbo under the bonnet is no joke, sure lack of an LSD with 213 kW and 422 Nm is bound to make you go to the tyre store more often than you would like but it is an absolute blast to drive when you feel like putting your foot down, I honestly found not much difference in performance between this and the i30 Sedan N, you’re probably talking slight tenths of a second difference that you honestly won’t feel in the real world unless you drag & roll race them side by side, the Sonata is the only “N Line” car that competes with the full on “N” cars in terms of performance as it has the highest power figures of any N/N Line petrol car to date. The extra weight over the i30 N variants hinders it slightly but it still rips hard. Also I’m 188cm tall so not exactly a short ass and I fit in perfectly fine, not sure if the roof line of the new facelift has been lowered or not, and although this facelift looks just as good as my model, I’m not a fan of the finnicky steering wheel gear lever borrowed of the Mercedes cars, I hate it, it took me a while to get use to the push button in my car but overtime it has become 2nd nature, but trying to do quick U-turns in heavy traffic with that sort of gear lever would be really annoying, also the beeps to warn you that there’s a camera ahead and to slow down while you’re jamming to your songs can also be a nuisance, but other than that, this is an absolute bang for your buck. Or you can go and spend an extra 10-15k on a 110kW Audi A3 because it has 4 rings on the front.

It doesn't compete at all with the sedan N other then straight line acceleration. It's heavier, chassis isn't as tight, and no diff plus the suspension isn't adaptive. It's not a track car.
@russell343611 ай бұрын
@@mharro88 I get that it’s not a track car, but it still is a very quick car, it outperforms alot of hot hatches and track cars, WRX, Golf GTI, last gen Golf R, i20N, 1st gen i30 N to name a few. Similar to the Kia Stinger GT, it’s not a full on hardcore track car but it still outperforms alot of cars in a straight line.

Sounds like a heart vs head decision! The Sonata’s performance is nothing like the i30N, but it is more practical and comfortable for a family. Tough call!
@slyarsenal11 ай бұрын
I'm currently waiting on my 24 Sonata to be delivered within the next 6-8 wks. I drove both cars and think the i30N is fun and has great sound, but the look of the car, the infotainment system and the cumbersome "oh shit" handle in the middle console really put me off. Maybe 15 years ago I would have bought the i30N just for performance, but the Sonata offers a much better all-round package with still a relatively good punch in power, but it's the elegance of the facelift and the finer cabin finishes that sold me. I felt much more comfortable being in the Sonata which is a more pleasurable vehicle to drive commuting to and from work but also on long trips. You'll get over the novelty of the pops n bangs and over time, you'd probably wish you changed the order to a Sonata.

I will say that as a 6'5, 245 lb (196 cm, 111 kg) man living in the US, I had an opportunity to test drive this car and I was able to fit. My father came with me (6'2) and during his test drive could not. I believe it has to do with the slope of the roofline and the sunroof. Since I had to put the seat all the way back and all the way down, I was able to slide in underneath the roofline and fit into what I would describe as a little bit of a pocket. With my father's seating position he wasn't able to put the seat all the way back while still being able to reach the steering wheel, but still had to put it all the way down and came very very close to smacking his head. I'd agree that sometimes you'll find yourself surprised by who can and cannot fit inside of a vehicle and that the best way is to simply get into one yourself.

Unfortunately beeping is a frequent occurrence with new cars nowadays. ANCAP gives more stars to beeping cars. :( It is great that the fake sound through the speakers can be turned off. :) The drive-away price of about $61,000 seems very reasonable for the engine performance, its many features, and its size. I like the look of both the exterior and interior of this update Sonata N-Line. :)

@@4wheelsandaseat Hopefully they become smarter with the beeping and enable them to be switched off easily, because it appears that the beeping becomes more of a distraction to the driver rather than being a safety benefit in the city. For me one of the most important safety features is lane departure warning with lane keep active assist for long country trips, but where I live in the city it would be a total night-mare as it would probably be beeping more frenetically than in your review. Cheers.
