@@ElijahsCloakSt. Porphyrios of Evia, a fellow Athonite and contemporary of St. Paisios, was also seen levitating while serving in the Sanctuary. Elder Ephraim of Arizona, who reposed in 2019, has been known to bilocate, though he said that he was not in more than one place at a time-claiming, rather, the Holy Spirit used his form to speak to some of his spiritual children who are far away. He has also appeared to some since his death. This is not uncommon among such Saints in Orthodox tradition. The stigmata are unique to post-Schism Catholic Saints, and as far as I know Orthodox do not embrace this phenomenon as being of God.

Orthodox do not embrace the two-lung theory, but see the Pope in Rome as being in schism from the Church, which we understand to be holy Orthodoxy. Personally, being a convert to Orthodoxy from Protestantism, I love pious Catholic Christians and appreciate what the Catholic Church has retained from early Apostolic Tradition and share with the Orthodox that Protestants have jettisoned. There are certainly fewer obstacles to be overcome to repair the divide between us.

We have our focus on the Crucifixion Of Our Lord , they center there theology on His Resurrection , so we are not surprised there isn't stigmata, but in the case of St.Paisios ,for example he had many visits of heavenly characters , and at least on one occasion he spent many hours in one saints presence ,an early saint whose life was little known, while she related all of what happened to her , which took like 8 hours long ? They have if I may say a theology on Jesus more positive then we who are always having a connection to suffering .In greek grace in there scripture is translated uncreated energy, in certain passages, and do have have all the compartments as we have on grace for this a different game for that etc etc, they do not accept Augustines error , that original sin when he taught we inherited the" guilt" of original sin , therefore I think they suggest and believe we as christians are not corrupted and can reach perfection....they call it ancestral sin, which brought all death etc , but we never inherited the guilt as Augustine idea penetrated the western church , which in turn made it necessary to the western church to compartmentalize graces into so many different categories ......I am writing this from some but incomplete studies , it is best to study these differences for oneself ,I am still trying to rap my head around it, but I like the Jesus which emerges in the Orthodox vs the Catholic the better, He is just more positive.

Thank you for sharing. There are a couple of reasons that I believe that the Orthodox Saints do not share in the fullness of Sanctity enjoyed by the Catholic Church. One is what you touched upon. The emphasis on Resurrection is not positive. The true love and mercy of God is manifested in the Crucifuction. No Cross, no Resurrection. Their conception of the Trinity is off as well. I thought that it was a matter of semantics. But, after looking at it, they really do have a misunderstanding regarding the procession of the Holy Spirit.

Bob: I find the below to be very interesting. Any thoughts/comments? "There are many, many different ways in which Fatima has been interpreted by Priests & Bishops of the Roman Church. I mean wildly different - so different in fact, that they might as well be different prophecies. Adding to this is the confusion and mystery over the "third secret of Fatima", given in 1917, but only revealed in 2000. Many Roman Catholics do not believe this third secret has been revealed. Even further of strange note, P. JPII stated in the early 80's that they did not reveal the third secret because they feared Russia "might make certain moves" if it was revealed. However, there is nothing within the supposed revealed "third secret" that was eventually revealed by Rome in 2000 that is of a geopolitical nature. Even stranger, a long deceased Roman Priest who is, by Rome itself, admitted to have read the "third secret", is on publicly recorded audio stating that Russia would - get this - "bring salvation" in this "third secret". Rome publicly revealed this "third secret" less than a year after that certain Priest passed away, and yet there is nothing concerning Russia mentioned within the publicly revealed third secret document. Even further complicating this "third secret" is that P. Benedict, prior to 2000 stated that the messages of Fstima are the same as Akita. For those who do not know, Akita is largely about apostasy within the Roman Church. Yet, when this "third secret" was revealed, there was nothing concerning apostasy mentioned. There is also nothing within any of the supposed prophetic statements concerning Fatima about Russia becoming Roman Catholic. "In 1946, during a gathering of youth at Fátima, Sister Lucia (the seer) was asked by a young Russian girl, Natacha Derfelden, as to how the conversion of Russia would be accomplished. Sister Lucia responded that the conversion of Russia would come through the Eastern Orthodox Church" It is, in fact, difficult for me to see how the "third secret" controversies does not make the RC church look bad. * I certainly realize that the Roman Church has utilized Fatima as a geopolitical tool. Seemingly at odds with what the "third secret" actually says. * It is difficult for me to see how a supposed prophecy ordered to be made public by 1960 by the directive of the Theotokos to the the seer, but which was delayed until 2000 for public release makes the Papacy look good. It makes it look extremely manipulative, even fearful of it's actual contents. * It is difficult for me to see how the following is pro Roman Catholic, as said by the Priest who had read the 3rd Secret (mentioned above). "Russia is within the plan...Why? That would take me too far into the Papal Secrets as to why Russia and Kiev are involved. It is simply God's choice. He chose the Jews to bring his Son to the world, through them. I would not have have chosen the Russians or Kiev, the east, for salvation. But salvation is to come from the East". That was said in 1996. Strange with what is occuring in that area of the world now. Many RC's think the Papacy was waiting for him to pass away before publicly revealing the 3rd secret. They in fact only did so right after his passing. * it is difficult for me to see how the statement "the two messages of Fatima and Akita are essentially the same" as being pro-Roman Catholic, as said by then-Cardinal P. Benedict in 1988. Akita speaks of a coming great apostasy in Rome. The publicly revealed third secret in 2000 does not say a thing about apostasy. * it is difficult for me to see how when P. JPII said in the early 80's they did not reveal the secret for fear of Russia making certain moves, makes the RC look good. Considering there is nothing mentioning Russia, nor anything that is geopolitical within the publicly revealed third secret, this makes it look like the third secret is still hidden. If I were RC, I would certainly hold that based on the above, the supposed third secret has not been actually revealed. There are millions and millions of RC who criticize the RC for this, it has caused dissension and division within the Church. Again, it is hard for me to see how the controversy within RC on this subject makes the RC look good. Also, everyone, calm down. This subject is interesting to me, that is all. I am not saying it should be believed. There are many, many, many reasons why it should not be that can be read to be in conflict with Orthodox Theology (Immaculate heart? Reparations?). The subject is interesting, that is all. One can learn about something without accepting it. For example, I have read Das Kapital, and noted it's interesting points. That does not make me a communist. I am not advocating for Orthodox to believe Fatima. I was Baptized Orthodox as an infant. I am simply noting the points I find interesting. Please take it easy, everyone."

Thank you for recommending St Palamas. But what he describes is not the Church's view of the Trinity or Procession. His view that the Filioque results in a Tetrad is problematic. This explains to me why I have heard this from Orthodox Priests. The proper understanding of the Filioque is that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father through the Son. It is NOT that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and proceeds from the Son. I must say that I am struck by the musunderstanding and lack of Charity that I have encountered from both the East and West (a few of my viewers) on this matter. What I do agree with Orthodox about is that the Creed should not have been changed outside of an Ecumenical Council where the East and the West could agree on the language. And, if agreement could not be attained, it should have not been changed.
@George-ur8ow
@George-ur8ow Ай бұрын
@@ElijahsCloak I agree with much of what you wrote. I believe your understanding is the same as that held in Orthodoxy. I should mention that I have certainly come across RC's that in no uncertain terms proclaim that the Son also shares in the equal "procession" of the Holy Spirit, which, in the Orthodox view, denotes origin and/or causation. The councils of Lyon (1274) and Florence (1638) both state "that the Holy Spirit proceeds eternally from the Father and from the Son, not as from two principles but from a single principle, not by two spirations but by a single spiration". The Orthodox "Monarchia" of the Father holds to what we belueve is the Cappadocian understanding, that the Father is unbegotten; the Son is begotten of the Father before the ages, and consubstantial with Him; and the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father, and is consubstantial with the Father and the Son. These three Persons in one essence are the All-holy Trinity. In essence, as you probably know, the differences in understanding and application may simply come down to linguistic differences (depending on who you ask). In the koine Greek, as you probably know "proceeds" as referenced in the Holy Scriptures carries with it a clear connotation of origin and causation, or the action of a "first mover". In the Latin, it is not very clear whether procession also denotes causation or origin. As you noted, and I agree with, confusing the issue after several successive prior ecumenical councils made very clear that any change or update was out of the question has led to long lasting negative consequences. This reminds me of St. Augustine's inability to read the scriptures in the original Koine, resulting in his attributing not only the effects of Adam's fall to all of mankind, but the personal inherited guilt of all for the same. Eventually, this mode of thought later developed into what Orthodoxy views as novel post-schism developments: (1) an over emphasis on penal substitution, leading to the devlopement in the west of a legalistic, formulaic penal substutionary atonement (taken to extreme limits by the 16th century reformers), and (2) the neccessity to proclaim the Theotokos as immaculately conceived, free from the inherited personal effects of original sin. The effects of the fall are clearly present in the koine; the vulgate, as understood by St. Augustine, he interoreted and applied as being personally, individually inherited. All this to say: RC and the East reach, in my opinion, a nearly identical conclusion on these subjects, with the East essentially holding that the West's specific dogmatization of these and other subjects as not necessarily "heretically erroneous", but as largely either superfluous, or "dangerous and novel". As you're likely already aware, Orthodoxy is quite comfortable with "mystery" in much of the finer aspects of dogma. "Transubstantiation" being another piece of western post-schism thelogy that we would hold is superfluous and best left specifically undefined, especially if it was not dogmatically and ecumenically done so in the first 1,000 years of the Church. In the Orthodox view, specifically applying dogmatic definitions can lead to further, novel theological developments built off of specific definitions. For example, the practice of eucharistic adoration - in the Orthodox view - is a natural consequence of transubstantive theology, a practice which is absent in the east and historical Church. I don't pretend to do these subjects the justice they deserve, especially in the comments of a youtube video. I suppose my goal here is to mention the Orthodox view on these subjects to the extent that you might not already be aware (as I understand the subjects after many years of study, but only as a layperson - and a sinful one at that). I originally was going to write to suggest that St. Palamas (who as you probably know remains venerated as a Saint amongst Eastern RC's). St. Palamas is most well-known for explicating the eastern theological understanding of Theosis to a greater degree than any prior Saint. Yet, we believe he remained in whole and total congruence with those who came before him - namely the Cappadocians and St. Simeon The New. His writings on the essence-energy distinction, and what that means for us in our process of attaining union with God, in my opinion, are the works of a great and blessed Saint. In Orthodoxy, he is considered one of three "Pillars of Orthodoxy". Theosis as explained in the essence-energy distinction, many RC's hold, is in direct conflict with the RC belief concerning absolute divine simplicity that came about in the post-schism era of St. Aquinas (eventually being specifically defined and dogmatized in Vatican 1). In light of your mentioning a forthcoming video on divinization, I think it is worthwhile to review the Eastern Orthodox view of the same. It may be the case - as it appears to be in certain other theological distinctives between east and west - that the same destination is reached, but the way there may be along very different, but perhaps parallell forks in the road. Thank for reading, this was much longer than I originally intended!

@george-ur8ow Thank you for this very informative comment. Although it is somewhat tangetial, it is important to note the motivation for the filioque - which is to express the consubstantial nature of the Son with the Father at a time when Arian-type thought was once again manifesting itself. You mentioned that my explanation agrees with Eastern Orthodoxy. If that is true then you are saying that there is agreement between the Roman and Orthodox - because what I stated is from the Catechism of the Catholic Church which is what Catholics offically believe and is inclusive of all prior Councils. My interpretation of the statement of Councils of Florence and Lyon is that it represents an expression of a single procession. However, I do believe that the Councils' statement is so unclear as to be unhelpful. It is more clearly explicated in the Catholic Cathechism (paragraphs 248, 263, and 729) which is consistent with what I stated previously. I am not surpised that there are Roman Catholics who say that there are 2 Processions - that can easily be incorrectly inferred by an uninformed reading of the Filioque. My personal view on the matter is that the original statement "proceeds from the Father" is true but incomplete since it does not address the role of the Son as described in John 15:26. And, the Filioque expresses the consubstantial nature of the Son and the Father at the expense of clarity. IMHO it would be much better to use the wording of St John in the Creed "proceeds from the Father through (sent by) the Son." It is the clearest expression of our Faith. God Bless And thank you for recommending St Palamas as a source for Theosis.

I don't believe there is any history of any Stigmata prior to the 12th century. Not present in the history of the first 1,000 years of the Church, when Rome and the East were one. As it is not present in the first 1,000 years of the Church, Orthodoxy is highly skeptical of these claims (as it is of anything that developed solely in the West post-schism).

As a Greek Orthodox I would like to ad that he also said that the 3rd world war would happen the year that the Greek Orthodox Easter would fall on the date of May 5th (it changes from year to year) This year that was the date of are Easter. He also said that it would begin shortly before Christmas. So we have about 3-5 months. And that as soon as you hear on the news that Israel has attacked Iran's nuclear program then the war has begun. It will be a nuclear war with about 200 000 000 dead. And that the war will come in stages. It will start then pause for 6 months. Then start up again. The east and west coast of America will be destroyed. Famine will be come to the world. He said don't just store extra food. Because it will soon run out. But if you can buy land in the country and grow your own food for yourself and for other family members and friends that would be stuck in the city and be starving. Also do not let your children be part of this war because non of them will come back.
