Demon slayer spoiler alert Demon slayer also has a very good way of having the characters mourn over the death of others. For example, when tanjiro’s family died, he became a demon slayer to avenge them (and turn his sister back to a human). When rengoku died, the trio started to view the world differently and it worked better for them because tanjiro learned a lot from it and it changed the entire series. So if tanjiro’s family didn’t die, he wouldn’t have become a demon slayer and probably wouldn’t have beaten muzan in the end

Dead or absent parents in shonen is unfortunately nearly essential for the protagonist to have a journey of some kind. One example of an shonen protagonist not having both parents dead is Ichigo from bleach, but even then his mum was still used as a plot device for his development and his dead had to eventually fade mostly into the background. Simple fact is a story about a teenager isn’t going to be interesting or appealing to readers if they’re stuck being around their parents all the time, if they were it’d be more of a slice of life rather than an shonen. So the while the trope is overdone and can be annoying it’s essentially impossible to not have it done in some capacity for shonens.

My least favorite trope is definitely "overly clingy sibling" because they're usually there just to cause problems and be annoying about it because they are way too obsessed with their sibling. i get being protective of their sibling and even moreso if their family has been through things but there is a point where it becomes unrealistic and painfully obvious that its just the creators fetish. I've dropped so many series because of this even some i liked and some that had good sibling realations but then turned it weird. A big tell for this is what happens when one walks in while the other is changing (which is very common), the normal response when this happens is to walk out, close the door and apologize but 9/10 they freakout yell "kyaaa pervert!" And slap the person as they panic, as if it is the first time they have seen eachother naked and it's been done on purpose, which if you live with someone for your entire life is unlikely.

I think death flags can be a double sided sword, a good example would be a certain someone from 86 part 2. It sort of sowed the seed for something else and propelled the world building of it. I think same goes for power of friendship it's usually just a plain ol' trope but something like the Penacony story quest in Honkai Star Rail really really shot it through the roof kudos to them. Also personally I LOVE the chuunibyou trope and those ironically self aware "ikemen" like Himmel from Frieren journeys end

About the dead parents: the only anime I ever watched (and the one that caused me to start learning Japanese) also has the main character's mother die, but in that case it actually affects her. And the viewer doesn't immediately see that the mother is dead, the viewer in the beginning just sees a 17yo Japanese girl who is living a pretty grey and happiness-less life. SHe had even lost her interest in making music. And what happens during the main storyline is what gets her back into a better mental state and in the end everyone is happy. The anime I'm talking about is "Belle: the dragon and the freckled princess", in my eyes a recommended watch if you're into anime.

Trope 1: Baby voiced characters. > People's voices are different in differing areas of the world since voice is genetic. You can't judge people for that, and quite frankly, if you hate it so much, look for a dub. --- Trope 2: Protags/MCs who fight with 60+ broken bones, and sometimes becoming more powerful afterwards. > What can I say? People like action. Some people IRL have fought in situations like that due to adrenaline alone. One of my distant cousins was in a car crash and broke one of their legs and had a massive wound in their torso, and they still pulled off the massive feat of strength required to pull a 200 lb piece of rubble off of their little brother. They never went to the gym in their life and would struggle just bringing in the groceries. (They're physically better now and actually do exercise, but that's not the point here.) > > The human body is a powerful thing. Sure, the instant healing doesn't really happen, but you can become quite numb to all of that when adrenaline is coursing through your veins. --- Trope 3: Surviving clearly fatal injuries. > Kinda the same thing as Trope 2. People like action, and sometimes they don't want their favorite character to die. Having a major character die can also affect a show's ratings since writing can be a struggle with the permanent removal of someone who's been there since the start. > > For the only case I can think of, and a case I still hate to this day, take Brian the Dog from The Simps American Family Dad Guy and Sons (you know what I'm referring to, they all blend together for me since they're all the same unfunny slop). Dude got ran over by a car, but then they pulled a deuce ex machine or whatever the heck and did a timey wimey nonsense with 1.21 jiggle whats to bring the dog back. What the dog doin' now? Still being an annoying self-serving narcissistic PoS. Fun times. --- Trope 4: The dead parent curse. > Honestly, I get this one. It's a dark story element, and I hate it too. Completely justified. Have a cookie. 🍪 --- Trope 5: Characters you know are going to die. > I've never heard of them being called Death Flags before. Maybe we're in different circles or something. All the people I know call them Canon Fodder since they exist in the show's canon plot and their main purpose is to die, giving it a funny double meaning (Canon + Cannon Fodder). > > There are ways this can be done well, and while I can't give a specific example right off hand of specifically what you're referring to, I do remember an interesting example where their death was more of a shrodinger's cat, and the authors held multiple votes to see if the fans wanted him to be dead or alive if he ever appeared again. Over 50% of the initial vote was for keeping him alive, but every subsequent vote had more and more people voting him to be dead. > > When he did finally reappear, he had undergone a lot of mental and developmental growth in a side comic they didn't reveal for years and released all at once charting his journey. People ended up adoring the man he had become and his return was celebrated. > > In regards to your whole thing about Life Flags, I don't think you should use that description for that type of character. I'd like to think a life flag would be the opposite of a death flag, AKA a character who you really don't want to die, and doesn't die. Could be the protag/MC, but could also be someone special to the protag/MC like a sibling/parent/significant other. I'd like to re-coin the trashy character you described as an Anti-Death Flag. > > Akin to Anti-Heroes and Heroes, they essentially do the same job, but do it in a worse way. People expect Death Flags to die, and they die. People expect Heroes to save the day, and they save the day. People expect Anti-Heroes to be villains and ruin the day. Anti-Heroes save the day by sheer coincidence while doing their typical misdeeds, and are often full of themselves. Therefore, it makes sense for an Anti-Death Flag to be a character people expect to die, and they don't die.

The first one is inevitable tbh, almost every anime has more than one character who has a high pitched voice unless you watch some manly anime like Baki. A petite woman with a high pitched voice is considered beauty standard in Japan, but in the west it may be seen as cringe and for weirdos. That's one of the main reasons why anime is only targeted to the Japanese audience. I don't know if the title of the video is over-exagerated because of my autistic ass, but if you can't stand women with high pitched voices, then you have it difficult to watch anime (No offense here, I'm just sharing my point of view).

We have a male 23 year old college student living with his girlfriend, both loving parents and a few friends. The MC dies and is reborn in a modern fantasy world with again both parents this time (im tired of parentless tropes), he doesnt have any cheat system or OP ability, but rather he gets stronger by improving and adapting overtime, he losses and thats the point, he meant to loose most fights so he can bounce back and get better, he uses his keen perception and IQ to evade situation he doesnt want to get stuck and be able to outsmart most characters.

When expressing anger, anime characters keep repeating that word (no idea what it is, like i keep hearing"ja ne"), which is always stuck in my mind, making me express the same way while dealing with jokes from friends. I'm getting sick of that kind of mindset i created.

Are you sure you were hearing the words Ja ne? Because I was learning how to speak Japanese a while back and that phrase came up, but no as a show of anger, but more like a goodbye to someone you know well. I also looked it up just to make sure and it says on google that it means "see ya" when translated into English.

My favorite implementation of the "dead parents" trope is Sora from Kingdom Hearts. His parents canonically exist - his mom even gets one whole voice line in the first game - but then we just leave on our adventure and never even think about them again. By all accounts, they're out there SOMEWHERE... it's just that nobody cares about them.

Death flags is gonna appear a lot, buuuut it’s interesting to see anime have a character with the BIGGEST death flag and they ACTUALLY survive

Jyuna: I hate when characters talk childlike nobody sounds like that in real life. Also Jyuna: *sounds like a little kid in real life.*
