And yes, sport bike horns are pretty punny sounding but they pierce the air far better than revving and are thus louder to the cager's ear (a couple examples in this video 5:19 and 13:16). Aside from pure decibels, however, the horn has been physiologically programed into our brains to grab our attention (think of Pavlov's dog). Hearing an engine rev, even if they do hear it, doesn't necessary translate to imminent danger. But you do you.

I think lane splitting should be legal in all 50 states as long as it's being done safely. If you split at 2 - 3 times the speed limit or 2-3 times the speed of the cars around you. You are making it that much harder for people to see you and that much more likely to get hit.

I'm a biker myself...and even though lane splitting looks interesting at times, where it's not permitted, it's dangerous. Mainly because people are not used to it. So you have no ground for arguying when somebody's not happy about it. Sometimes it doesn't affect the others, like running a red light or a stop sign when you can't see someone coming...but since you're not supposed to do that, people won't expect you to do that and it's how accidents occur because one day there will be someone coming... Remember that these "bikers" videos are full of cars doing shit that don't really affect the riders but still not permitted and potentially dangerous and they get flipped off for that. Like at 7:35. Did these cars affected him in any kind of way?

She felt bad about it, there was no harm done, and most likely she got a fright because she didn't realise he was so close. We don't want to alienate all drivers......we already have a lot of hate. When you compare her reaction to most other reactions, he was mean to be like that with her. When he's the perfect rider without making any mistakes ever, then maybe he can carry that attitude with people who are genuinely apologetic....otherwise, don't be a dork. It's mad that you can lane split in most of the US. It can be done safely, protects bikers from getting rear ended, gives the riders some fresh air, helps the engine cool down on hot days, and eases congestion. Everyone gets to where they're going a bit faster with less risk of people dieing.

Lane splitting isn't legal because car drivers see it as 'unfair' that motorcyclists get special treatment and don't have to wait in heavy traffic. It's legal in dozens of countries all over the planet, and works fine. It's been proven to be safer for motorcyclists in countries where it's been adopted, the only thing stopping it is the small amount of motorcyclists here compared to places in say, Europe, with a higher percentage of motorcycle riders. A filtering and/or lane-splitting bill gets introduced in my state's every legislative session almost every cycle, and goes nowhere, but if those people rode motorcycles it probably would get some traction.
