I really like this series with Joe and an old Iron Head. Can't agree with Joe more about stop working on something when you do something wrong. Usually means I'm overtired and the damage you'll do will prolong the project. Usually I'm in the same boat, long work day and tooling on something late at night. Keep up the great content!

I appreciate that man!!... I try to show folks the most cost effective way to do repairs/mods, etc WITHOUT compromising on quality, or reliability.....thing is, a lotta time, people have to be WILLING to to their part and invest the time in doing the repairs, instead of "hiring it out"..... I really do try to present things in a simple," easy to get your head wrapped around" manner, altho sometimes, I will admit that I miss the mark......same goes for tools, and specialty tools needed for a job.....if theres an alternative to a high dollar special tool that someone may only use once or twice, i try my best to inform about cheaper options!! I believe where your tank coating is pooling, is where it isn't making a thick coating. Due to the pooling action it won't cure a layer at a time like intended. So that will end up being the thinnest part of the coating. Pouring out the excess after each coat prevents the pooling from happening anywhere, and allows each individual layer to cure, making a nice even layer everywhere. Just trying to be helpful, not a jerk. I enjoy the hell out of your vids😁
@JoeTheMountainJedi
@JoeTheMountainJedi 3 ай бұрын
Totally get it, and it's appreciated!!!.... With the Kreem (and this Eastwood stuff, since it's the same) as it starts to cure/thicken, it actually does build heavy on the bottom portions of the tank....when I'm in the process of doing one, I force air through it like I showed in the part about drying the tank out to get it to "skin up" kinda like silicone sealer.....after it builds there, then I roll it around to let it coat other areas, but I always get more on the bottom like this with a little extra airflow from a shop hose..... The curing process is simply the MEK evaporating out of the poly that it's keeping in suspension, so if you play it right, you can get it to do what you want/need it to do quicker!

OK depending on how much you value your life you can take a plastic bucket that the primary will go into (at least 1/2 way) put sulfuric acid in it hook up your electrical system and hang the chrome plated part in it and cook it and it will eat the chrome off or take it to a chrome shop and see if they will strip it for you. I worked in a chrome shop for a long minute and that is how we did it. :)

There's SEVERAL bikes out there that I suggest doing it on as a "preventative measure" because the big majority of the connectors that the OEMs use on the phase leads coming from the stator are ABSOLUTE CRAP!!!.... Good stuff as always, Joe. Any chance you know if someone is making an S&S manifold for these ironheads, or if I just need to keep a close watch on EBay?

Thank you sir!!!!..... Shouldn't be hard to find one!!(Teds vtwin, and mid USA make their versions of this manifold as well.....) Gimmie a holler on the patreon to jog my "goldfish memory" and I'll look around, I probably have a few squirreled away somewhere!!

someone should write a book of all the euphemisms Joe coins. It could be called “Down Home Motorcycle Wisdom for Dumbasses”.

Hate to say it man, but MMO won't prevent the rust, nor will it keep the fuel from degrading.... It's a good "old school" product, but with modern fuels, there's some things it just doesn't help with, unfortunately...

TBH, I couldn't tell ya!!!... Kreem sells a liquid product, and I used it ONCE, and wasn't terribly impressed with it's cost vs performance....then I tried the fogging oil trick, and haven't had a problem since!!
