Do you ever see the other kind of semi trucks "cabovers" out there on the roads? I very seldom see any of them around here in 🇺🇸 nowadays.

with 60 foot trailers on the way, you might see them back.
@kevinrichards3288

@@dustbat at first I didn't know why the number of them decreased. Then I've learned the law in the USA increased the length limit which made them no longer a necessity & that's when more conventional cabs replaced them. I use to see them all the time back in the 1980s & down. Today the USA is one of very few countries that only has a small number of them.

@@dustbat 60ft trailers wow I didn't hear about those coming. If I'm not mistakin I think the 53fters came out back in either the late 1980s or early 1990s. Speakin of the 53fters I've seen some semis pull doubles which I didn't think was legal. But the 28fters on the other hand, I see semis pull doubles of those often.

@@kevinrichards3288 I was in the Mack F model from 73 to the 80's. The cab was not much wider than the tire! I felt I was king of the road in that most basic of trucks. They went to the MH model and what an improvement. You could sleep on the dog house in a day cab! Late 80's we started getting the hoods in and it took a little getting comfortable with that hood out there. Different states have different regs. I pulled the pups a lot and they for me were much easier to deal with.
@dustbat
@dustbat 2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinrichards3288 I found they were in Canada so you know they will come down here.They made them still keep the over all length the same so if that happened here the Cab over might make a come back. Or the stupid government might out law all trucks.

wont be long and truckers will be replaced by automated trucks..
@jasond5405
@jasond5405 6 жыл бұрын
It sucks tarping anything but you atleast need a small tarp in the front of a lumber load to keep that from happening. But of course if you have a head board on your trailer and load it all the way forward then you will never have this problem. I have seen this happen hundreds of times when the truck has to stop fast!!

I always strapped my loads down with the mindset that I wanted it secure,, even if I rolled over.. Obviously this driver didn't have that same mindset.. Did he have ANY straps over any of that load.?
@masaallen1009
@masaallen1009 6 жыл бұрын
deserthorizons obviously you've never hauled Lumber. Or never had anyone stopped quickly in front of you with a load of lumber you can put all the straps you want on it the center of the bundle will still slide out.
@deserthorizons
@deserthorizons 6 жыл бұрын
Actually I have hauled lumber.. But how can the "center' ones slide out if it is loaded properly.. The front bundles should be up against the headache rack so they can't go forward,, additional bundles should be packed up against them.. The only boards that should be able to 'slide out' should be at the rear during fast acceleration.. Now if it s stacked "incorrectly'' (or too tall) such as this one,, you are just asking for trouble.. and BTW,, if you're a trucker ,, you have had someone pull out in front of you.. You MUST expect that and plan for that..
@ziiofswe
@ziiofswe 6 жыл бұрын
Even if he had the _mindset_, the practical application of it was a fail. :P If you look at the video again you can almost see what went wrong. The individual bundles weren't strapped together. So when the driver threw the straps over the entire load and then started tightening it at bed level, the outer stacks of planks were pulled slightly outwards, as the top part of the straps were stretched. The most pulling force is between the edge of the bundle and the attach point at the bed, and when you pull down and out, the outer planks will move down... and out. Leaving the middle part of the bundle loose.

I paused and then framed forward, he had straps, but watching the video a few times, they didn't seem tight at all, also of note, the binding on the pallets was also really loose.

it looks as if the flatbed was cut off by the small four wheeler. at 1:45 you can just make out the car pulling out into traffic directly ahead of the flatbed.
@brucethomas3100

Keith Zoufaly Well Sir! It seems as though there was plenty of room between the little four wheeler and the front of the Kenworth. Didn't see any black marks on the pavement left by the Kenworth so it doesn't look like the driver had to lock it down. Hmmm, probably lost his load due to it not being tied down properly. But what do I know, only been dragging a rag wagon around for a little over 10 years.
@keithzoufaly2791
@keithzoufaly2791 6 жыл бұрын
I do agree that better strapped/ loaded load would have prevented this from occurring. i still believe that the four wheeler should have waited for traffic to pass. it seems drivers are becoming more ignorant to how to behave around trucks.
