I think production wise this show is missing a key element by not utilising Lord of the Rings style forced-perspective to make Dave appear twice the size of the panel (IE as large as he looms in our hearts)

I agree but the reverse. I think they should have made Dave look even smaller than normal so he looks like a Hobbit. Give him a really big desk and big note cards.
