@christopher Skach What gear did you use in the video for the sturgeon? Do you think the Fiblink Catfish Fishing Rod would work for the sturgeon in there? And what pound test are you running?

Crazy, I run around there all the time and never knew sturgeon lived there. They really draw the lake down in November, have you caught more there? How long did you have to wait for a bite? I imagine you are using a large piece of bait.

Caught and released 24 sturgeon in 2021 at Lacamas, I am sure a few of them I have caught twice or even thrice. The wait time for a bite varies on season and current temps, some days we catching one with in the first hour or so or even two some times. On average though it normally takes a good part of the day sitting in front of your pool waiting. As far as bait, I use fish heads and guts, fish body size is shad to trout sized baits all cut and even wrapped in worm sometimes.

@@Jasperito3 that is awesome. When I was younger and lived in East Wenatchee me & my buddy figured out to catch sturgeon below Rocky Reach dam on the Columbia. It is fricking a blast to hook into them and a battle. I might have to try Lacamas sometime just for nostalgic sake. I need to get a bigger pole!

@@Jasperito3 What gear do you use for sturgeon? I want to get some sturgeon out of Lacamas Lake but I'm not sure what gear I need to get. I'm thinking of getting the Fiblink Catfish Fishing Rod since it is 9' and extra heavy, getting a spinning reel and put on 80 pound braid and use a size 6/0 barbless octopus hook with a whole bluegill or whole trout.

Great fish. Sure wish they would open up the Columbia for catch and release. I got a 9'11" fish on 9/11/07 up at Bonneville and it wore me out. Great video.

The lower columbia is always open for catch and release

I am the guy fighting the fish in this video, I target the sturgeon for catch and release only, I was using big gear indeed.

I fush lacamas alot and never new there were sturgeon in there! Do you know how big the population is??

Not very large, they are not breeding in this lake. Last time state ran a count it was around 130ish of them.

@@Jasperito3 lol 130... 🤨 I've caught the same one twice (it was 8'6" both times so I assume) n as far as I know there's one bigger n one smaller in there. Fished the lake for 20+ years now n never seen any others caught... would have to imagine there'd be a few shaker size ones I woulda caught or seen caught by now.

@@zeebee3606 130 is what WA state fish counter/surveyor told me they counted after I watched them run the lake 4 times with their shockers and fancy fish finders.

That was a few years back though, now tons of people are trying to fish them out there so I am sure them numbers are smaller now.
