I love how when they're holding up the panels that are recapping the story so far, they start carelessly dropping them on the ground as if to say "Yeah the story isn't important right now, just enjoy the music and we'll get back to that later"

I mean, this song shows the end of the story anyway: severed heads in her bugout bag. Sing along!

Each of the characters hold/show/drop the panels according to their characterization. The samurai doesn't want to be reminded of her master's death, so she stops caring - she later perks up when she's recapping Sing Along, as she's much more invested in her revenge. The fat leader is gloating over deaths, the businessman lets them spill out like boring documents and the blindfolded geisha is just dropping them as she goes because she can't see what's on them.

For Japan, which invaded Asia and massacred people of various countries during World War II, the American cultural community glorified and praised it in various ways. Think about the American soldiers who were slaughtered by Japanese soldiers during World War II. What you did is really disgusting. Poor American nipples, basic history is unknown. As the center of Asian civilization, China has historically protected small and weak countries from being invaded by the Japanese Beast Nation for free, but the American literary and artistic community dare not tell the Americans about this history. There have been four major wars between China and Japan in history, occurring during the Tang Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, and the Republic of China period. The first time was the Battle of Baijiangkou in the Tang Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, Japan invaded the ancient South Korea - Silla and Baekje, two small countries, and fled back to Japan after being severely taught by the Chinese Tang army. The Second Ming Dynasty Wanli Korean War saw Japan invade Korea, leaving only Li Shunchen, who persisted in guerrilla warfare, almost annihilating the country. The Ming army suffered some setbacks in the early stages (due to inaccurate intelligence in North Korea, the Ming vanguard army was besieged and returned to the main force after breaking through), but ultimately achieved victory and successfully prevented Japan's invasion. Restored North Korean sovereignty. In the Third Sino Japanese War of the Qing Dynasty, in order to protect the Korean people and the invading Japanese army, the Qing Dynasty was defeated by Japan. This war was a humiliating failure for the Qing Dynasty and one of the important events in modern Chinese history. Finally, there is the Anti Japanese War during the Republic of China period of World War II, which has a wealth of information available online. You can watch it yourself.

lore: There was a peaceful and busy town in which three heroes lived and worked. One of the three heroes was away from the town while the other two were in the process of crafting two katana swords, when two collaborating villains, Slick and Slim (one obviously representing greed, capitalism and disregard for life and the other representing consumption, addiction and toxicity) entered the village and overpowered and killed the two heroes that were there. When the third hero returns, he finds his friends dead, the village burning and his wife and daughter gone. He finishes crafting the two katana swords and imbues them with the essence of his two warrior friends by using their blood to harden the steel. He then goes on a journey to revenge his friends and save his wife and daughter. He suits up his samurai armor and tracks down Slick and Slim in his hellcat muscle car. I think the fate of his wife isn't revealed, but he manages to slay all of Slick and Slim's minions and defeat them using the katanas which seem to generate a protective field around him - but Slick and Slim use his daughter as hostage to force him to surrender and he is killed. In that moment the spirits of the other two heroes manifest and distract/restrain Slick and Slim, so that the daughter can get away with her father's corpse. Years pass during which at some point nuclear war devastates the world (likely because Slick and Slim / greed and consumption are now ruling the world), which seems to be at least on one side fought mainly by advanced artificial intelligence / machines - though I don't think this implies a robot-uprising, but just modern AI & robot weaponry that are used by humans to fight their war. After the nuclear war, in the post-apocalyptic world where capitalism led full circle back to pretty direct slavery, the samurai's daughter has now suited up her father's armor and is fighting Slick and Slim to avenge him. She rides her father's hellcat, which however now was modified to contain two AI controlled war robots - each of them wielding one of the two katanas (though one seems to have been modded into a dual-bladed sword) - plus a motorcycle. After taking down some of the machines by which the remaining human slaves are coerced into labor (not via direct force, but by capitalism & exploiting their addiction to goods Slick and Slim control), she directly attacks Slick and Slim (the latter one now being very obese) using first the hellcat and the two katanas directly, but then splitting the hellcat up into the two war robots and a motorcycle. The robots - which seem to contain/represent the spirits of the two hero friends of her father - each attack the villain who killed the respective hero (they exchange their swords during the attack, which I'm not sure why they are doing this, but it could be related to the fact that the protagonist still is able to generate a protective force field while the swords are with the robots - so maybe the ability to create a shield has been extracted somehow from one of the swords). However, Slick and Slim seem to be able to defeat both robots and the protagonist, who made it to Slim, fails to kill him because he is being protected by slaves who throw themselves in front of him. As she seems to fall and is about to be killed, we see that the first, golden robot that was presumably defeated is still active and managed to use his sword to create a protective shield around the other silver robot who now directly attacks and kills Slick. A moment later the golden robot made it to Slim and kills him too. The katanas are returned to the protagonist who pierces the villains' heads with them and celebrates together with the liberated slaves (if anyone has an idea what the green glowing boxes that turn on across the city mean, please tell me). The other clips which do not directly add to the main story seem to still loosely fit into this world during the time period between the father's death and when his daughter picks up the fight after the nuclear war. I recapped the obvious - it may still be helpful for those who were too high and got lost in the details :) cheers

Context for Heaven's leader (the purple gas, fat guy): The purple gas is severely toxic (and flammable! Comes up later...) when inhaled, kills multiple people, and he continuously breathes it through the tubes going to his nose. in S&F, the heroine's father forges both katanas in the blood of the two who faced off against both main bad guys, and dons samurai armor to get revenge for them as well as get his daughter. Coincidentally, drives the same car, probably pre-modification. But before he kills them, they bring her out and use her as a hostage to kill him. Just when they're about to kill her as well, the spirits of the two friends seemingly hold the bad guys back while the daughter escapes. All this to explain why he gets so excited and points joyfully at her, he remembers when he last had a challenge and fun. Pertains to his figurehead's name of 'Heaven', and the irony associated with it. Personal opinion: The Heaven and Business figureheads are ironies/the worst possible permutations of what would theoretically be 'true' for the word. Business brutally tosses any and all armaments it has, enjoying the money and craze of it all and glorifying war industry. Hell, the music video's opening he has the receipt maker on his belt, and it charges money for each time he shoots somebody, and during this video his handcranking the receipt maker is him charging for each 'missile' fired. Heaven is debauchery, drug-induced haze and gluttony. The pictured rolls of fat isn't what he used to be, he used to be as thin as Business' leader in the opening.

I love this type of stuff, idk maybe as a heroin addict all that stuff with gluttony and society broken down to the most base of desires. It's like sex, drugs, and guns rule the world, but in this universe it's the ONLY currency and I think it's amazing. Fuck it let the world burn, as long as I got black in my veins to numb it all, this whole damn world can go to this exact hellscape and I'd dive headfirst into it. I'd probably be one of theguys fired on the rockets high as kite ready to die in a firey ball of insanity at the last vestige of decency on the Earth.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if a respected alt-country star went into surgery and, in its aftermath, refused pain killing narcotics and instead just took a bunch of weed? Imagine then, in his fugue state, he decides to take a departure from country and produce a crazy good synth rock album. Now imagine he decides to have the entire album animated, writes a vague anime screenplay, goes to Japan, and has some of the top anime artists compete to see who could be the nuttiest in producing his vision. He then puts it all together in a 45 min montage that can only be described the three way love child of Heavy Metal the movie, Akira, and The Wall. I actually thought this level of unrestrained creative expression from a popular artists had died sometime in the 1980s. Maybe it did but, if so, Sturgill Simpson resurrected it here.

Man you absolutely fucking nailed it. I wish to hell more of this would pop out of the woodwork because this unrestrained "fuck it" levels of creativity is amazing. I love the lyrics to this song. In my opinion, it's the center theme to what Sturgill was doing when he created this album and went outside of the normal constraints of what the industry defined as his selling genre. Then followed up by "Make Art Not Friends", it really makes you wonder how much freedom some artists in the industry really have to truly express themselves when it goes outside of what the industry think will sell and appeal to the most people. The Star Of David don't belong to the David at all He borrowed it from Peter just so he could pay off Paul Peter copyrighted the star and now he owns a claim But a star is still a star by any other name Well now everybody's worried about a good look But they need to be worried about a good hook Instead of skipping straight to the last page In that ol' rationalization book I write my poems in the dirt with an oily rag I have to wear a gas mask just so I don't gag I got a SOCOM Scout, twenty extra mags And a couple severed heads in my bug out bag Well now everybody's worried about a good look But they need to be worried about a good hook Instead of skipping straight to the last page In that ol' rationalization book Why you gettin' pissed 'cause we're getting discovered Are you talking all this shit just to get on the cover Well now, how you gonna eat when you're biting the hand Well you know they don't like it when you take a stand So enjoy it while you can And to hell with all the boys in the band 'Cause it's over now Doesn't fly it only sends ya pain Well now everybody's worried about a good look But they need to be worried about a good hook Instead of skipping straight to the last page In that ol' rationalization book

And the anime is phenomenal; I see this dance number in my head randomly throughout the day, no lie. I bought the CD, btw, and who buys CDs anymore? This was recorded as an album, made to be listened to from start to finish, and the flow is perfect. The way the intros act as segues from song to song is reminiscent in approach to Steve Miller's Book Of Dreams.

You ever try actually creating something while stoned and tripping? Good luck. Creativity - even making something "psychedelic" - is inhibited by drugs, no matter what your stoner friend with an acoustic guitar claims. It also reduces a work with clear symbolism in each and every frame to a "mere" drug hallucination. It's the simpleton's response to complex art: "I don't get it, so it must be drugs." Also, your little joke has been made about twenty times on this video alone. Talk about "said and done before."

@@TheRealColBosch By the way genius. Sturgill wrote the whole damn album stoned off his ass. So you can create something great while being high. You should stick to stuff you know. Not what you've been told.
