This guy is it. Probably wont get the recognition he deserves in Nashville because he isnt a candyass, but this guy is country for the blue collar grunts that crave the stuff that guys like Waylon took with him. And that is a compliment of the highest honor. Lyrics that hit home, and an amazing voice and band. Excellent stuff.

Michael Palmisano it’s interesting to see the players Sturgill has surrounded himself with, always top of their class. Was just coming back to see if this was the same guitarist as on “listening to the rain- live Austin “.. and nope it’s not, that was Little Joe.

I’ve been in a Chris Stapleton and Tyler Childers rabbit hole for days and thought it couldn’t get any better. Then Sturgill pops up on the right....Sturgill is such a wonderful discovery. He’s blowing me away! I agree the country music on the radio is garbage. Let’s all give thanks for KZbin and the talented artists we have the opportunity to enjoy.

As my wife is giving birth to our only son. My mom and I were on our way to the hospital and this song came on and I seen a tear come down her face. I think she knew that this was a life changer for me. That I was going to finally get my world together and be the man I was supposed to be. That was 14 years ago and I wouldn’t change a thing. Sorry it took this long.

Like a tall glass of refreshingly delectable old school sounding country music. I shut my eyes and was transported back to the late 70s early 80s where I was sitting at my grandpas table listening to AM radio and this style and sound is what I hear playing in the back ground. So glad a friend shared Sturgill Simpsons music with me this morning. I cannot seem to get enough of that old time sound.

that really was the "magic" that i really remember, no.#1 was SOME HOW HE GOT A ACOUSTIC SOUND TO STICK OUT ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE, no.#2 lyrically he's just phenomenal, no.#3 is some HOW, he leaves you wanting MORE, after EVERY VERSE!!!! his voice is enticing as sin, yet as good as a angel... I could go on & on!! country radio really is starving for THIS KIND OF TRADITIONAL SOUND!!! anyone agree???

I agree... I was lucky enough to have a "cowboy/hippie" Mama that introduced me to Willie Nelson and I hadn't heard anyONE that compared.. as far as lyrics & guitar .. all that REALLY matters ( Mickey & Paul were the BIG FAT cherry on top!!) UNTIL Sturgill! This guy makes me wish my Mama was still here on this Earth & together we would enjoy GREATNESS once again! I know that she listens to him & loves his music in Heaven though! This song has that "MAGIC" that "funny how time slips away" has... actually.. EVERY song Sturgill writes and plays does!! Johnny YOU have GREAT TASTE and as long as Country radio FAILS to recognize Sturgill Simpson is EVERYONE that still listens to it loss! If I had a Million $$ I'd buy him all the pills & weed he ever wanted!

I"m a 70 year old rock, blues and jazz fan. Truthfully, I can hardly understand the words he is singing on this song. I ran into him on SNL and have re-watched those videos. I like Merle and some older country but I'm not a big fan of modern country, but I really like this guy. Glad this song is on the CD I just received and looking forward to the other two I have ordered. This guy crosses over because of sincerity and musicianship, talent and energy. This a great song.

As someone who has played since they were 10, the guy on the telecaster straight fucking laid it down. This smooth, slow, easy, and clean is so much harder to play than rock or something fast and technical like good metal.

Yep, I watch this video as much for his solo and accompaniment as much as for Sturgill Simpson's singing. Ol' Sturg can play guitar too.

He can play, but not anywhere near as clean as this guy. And his compositions compared to this guy are like comparing a teenage hobbiest to a Nashville session guitarist. But the Estonian that replaced this guy on lead was no slouch either.

Yea, I agree with Ashley. I’ve been following Sturgill for a while now. Saw him a few years ago with Laur on Guitar. Laur is fantastic but I really wish they had this line up here. It was their best IMHO.
