Unfortunately Heatbit's support for the original unit is woeful. No instructions on their website, it's all sell-sell-sell. Same goes for the help in their app. The timer feature still isn't implemented, it seems to take a different sequence of button presses to shut the thing down every time you use it; what worked yesterday will bring up the app thermostat today. The only thing guaranteed to consistently shut it down is to pull the plug, but as it's a running computer that's not a wise thing to keep doing. Factory resetting makes no difference. Firmware upgrade makes no difference.

Good idea, especially if you have solar panels and a tarif that nets you KW credits (instead of direct cashback). I've often used my gaming computer to do a similar thing in a tiny room (gaming in that case not mining).
@StusReviewsUK8 ай бұрын
I didn’t think about that… if you have panels and battery storage, you’re basically printing money at that point 😂

Hey there! Commenting on the heating efficiency, modern electric heaters are close to 100% efficient, and Heatbit is identical in terms of the heat generation process. There are negligible losses, such as those from LED lights and due to certain laws of physics, but all incoming electricity generates heat. The process of heat generation is consistent and is based on resistance. Heating coils are designed to allow electricity to pass through them, generating heat due to their resistance, in a process known as Joule heating. Although mining chips are not designed to generate heat, the same principle applies to them.

I love the idea of this but it's worth noting that although you earn x amount in crypto to actually get that transferred into cash isn't a easy process since everyone wants to take a cut throughout the process of getting it from your wallet to your bank.

Great points! That does eat into your profit, but fortunately most fees are minuscule… just need to go live in Lithuania where lots of places accept bitcoin as payment so you can skip the middle man and reduce those fees 👀😂!

What would be interesting to know is how much heat does it produce per kW compared to a normal heater? If it costs more even after the mining return (which I'm kind of guessing it might do as it's a miner making heat as a bi-product) then it's probably not a great buy, Thanks for another great product review though.
@StusReviewsUK8 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s what I meant with the asking any physicists to crunch the numbers. I’m sure there must be *some* energy lost, but I think that energy lost won’t be more than the currency generated (especially if you factor in growth value too)!

@StusReviewsUK8 ай бұрын
Great question! On eco mode, it’s hardly noticeable, which is the mode that will generate the most back on your electricity. If you stick it in the cc or turbo mode it’s more like a fan. Noticeable but nothing more than a normal fan type sound.

Don’t forget the Bitcoin halving is in April, so it’ll be mining 50% less than it does now
@StusReviewsUK8 ай бұрын
True, but that should increase growth and returns on existing holdings, so it should even out? I guess we will see!
@heatbit8 ай бұрын
Nobody knows what will happen after a halving event, but historical data suggests that miners generally fare well due to rate and difficulty adjustments. The Mini has a significant advantage over regular miners: its electricity consumption is utilized for heating and purification. In contrast, regular miners are dependent on electricity prices; if the rewards are less than the electricity costs, your device becomes electronic waste.

Unfortunately it would never make sense in Denmark or Norway, Sweden i have no idea,, But since the kilowatt prices here is 85% taxes, the saving of the heating would go on you electric bill. It could be used as a supplement though, but not as a main heater, and not when running 24/7, but in the long run in Denmark and Norway would make no sense and cost way to much.
@heatbit8 ай бұрын
Yes, no heating option is superior, and there are some places where you don't need a heater at all. That's one of the reasons we've added a calculator.

So, buy a decent convection/fan heater with a thermostat and remote control for about £50 and buy yourself £750 of Bitcoin. The maths of doing that makes much more sense and buys a heater that has a greater heat output and only costs money when you need the heat. And let's be right, that's an ugly looking piece of kit! Not even its mother could love it.
@StusReviewsUK8 ай бұрын
That doesn’t really make a great deal of sense… Greater heat output equals higher energy usage… and with a regular heater that’s full price with no appreciating assets gained… If I had the time I’d do the proper maths for you to demonstrate, but at 11pm on a Friday night and I’ve got more important things to do🍷. So if you feel I’m still wrong, do your calculations below and convince me I’m wrong, I’m happy to be corrected if you can do the maths for and against.
