I have every episode of Man About The House and despite the fact I have watched them all many times, I still go back and watch them again. I can't get over how incredibly beautiful Paul Wilcox (Chrissy) was - if I met a girl like her now I would be head over heels!

Just watched “Man about the House:” Then and Now. 📺 It reminded me of how this Situation Comedy 🎭 was ahead of its time! If I find it on ITV3, I still watch it!! Man about the house and George and Mildred were my favourite comedies. Loved Bless this house too. I want to go back and be sitting on the floor, eating my spangles with a glass of Cremola foam and not having a care in the world. Happiest days of my life, thank you for taking me back there 🤗🤗🤗

Everytime I hear the intro music to Man and the House it takes me right back to the 70s. It just hits me in the gut and all the memories and emotions come to the fore. If there was a time machine; I would love to go back and visit family members who are no longer alive. In a lot of ways life was better back then. Except for dental pain, medicine and the internet. But people seemed to have more time for each other and were not worked to death like they are today.

So, So true Davman . . . For all the advances that have been made in some areas, which is great, Sadly, people seem to have less time, and time for each other, and seem to have the weight of the world on their shoulders all the time. I think one reason for this is the constant 24/7 bombardment of BAD News about what has, will or might happen etc. Good news is No news it seems. Whilst we can all be guilty of looking back through Rose tinted specs, It does seem that there were far less problems and more happiness about before all this PC rubbish and scaremongering etc. People used to be free to live and have their own opinions and could express their creativity without being mocked or ridiculed etc or having to jump through certain hoops. Sorry, I'm going off on one aren't I ? Lol. The point is, Again, that MATH and many other great shows, are a time capsule of when GB was still great, and by and large a happy place to be

Thanks for bringing us another gem from yesteryear,growing up watching shows like these back then felt special, BBC1,BBC2,ITV, a few channels but we sure did get some good tv,seeing your upload brings back memories of great TV, I saw O'Sullivan in a play back in the 70s think it was Billy Liar,though I'd have to think back as it was a long time ago,though I remember the guy who accompanied the Honey Monster was there with the Honey Monster,he was from the Benny Hill Show. The thing that surprised me more than anything else, Brian Murphy who looked ancient in the 1970's looks a lot better than the younger members of the cast now. And he is 12 years older than Richard, 17 years older than Paula, and 18 years older than Sally.

I think part of that is because English actors seem to become their parts. When watching a British show/movie, you do not see the actor like you would if the show/movie was American. You see whom they are acting as. Like Paula, what ever show she is in, you do not see Paula, you see the person she is acting. When you see her in Man About The House, you see Chrissy or when she is in The Lovers, you see Beryl. Now you look at for example Susan Summers in any show she did, you see Susan Summers first before the person she is acting as.

great TV show, remember it well , I was a kid when it was on TV, crazy that the premise of a guy sharing a house with two girls was considered daring, when I lived in London in the 90s I shared a flat with three girls for about 10 years!! It just seemed normal , they became good friends, they were like my family, mixed house or flat sharing became very normalised in London.

I forgot to mention that the TV channel ‘Talking Pictures’ recently showed a documentary about Orson Welles. There was quite an in-depth interview with Norman Eshley as Welles gave him his screen debut in a film called The Immortal Story. Eshley had only recently left drama school and it was an astonishing stroke of good fortune to be in a film directed by Welles. In the interview he describes what it was like doing his first bed scene with Jeanne Moreau where as he put it, he ‘rose to the occasion!’

I never knew that . . . Norman Eshley was good in a great little film made in Wokingham, when I used to live there, called Blind Terror. We watched some of it being filmed in the town, Paul Nicholas coming out of a Bookies etc. Lots of well known actors in it, the great Michael Elphick, Mia Farrow etc. Also does anyone remember Norman in the Sweeney, getting on Jack and George's nerves ? @@antonybarrett789 Yes. He was a detective assigned to the Sweeney and on the surface was smooth and good at his job but hiding the fact that he can’t handle the violence. The episode ends with him cowering and sobbing in a phone box after a shootout with some villains.

This still gets shown on British TV. I watched a bit of it this morning. It's still hilarious. I had such a crush on Paula Wilcox when I was a kid. Quite a bit of tragedy happened to the cast. Paul Wilcox's husband died quite young. Roy Kinnear fell off a horse when making a film. Don't know if he had a heart attack on the horse of after he fell off. Yootha had cancer. And Richard O'Sullivan had a stroke quite young which he has never really recovered from. Good to see Brian Murphy still alive. He is one of the best comedy actors we've ever produced.

I've read that Brian Murphy & Yootha Joyce were close friends, despite their antagonistic screen personas. He was actually with her when she died of alcoholism at a relatively early age. She would have died alone, if not for him. 😥

At one time Yootha Joyce was married to Glynn Edwards whose most famous role was probably playing Dave, the barman of the Winchester Club, in Minder. Yootha was a very heavy drinker. That was the cause of her early death.

I agree Kevin. I enjoyed Doug Fisher in it too and always felt he was somewhat underused. That would have been a good idea, A spin off series. Also, I don't see why they couldn't have had the other characters turn up in episodes of George and Mildred, going to visit them etc, changing things around a bit. Spent some time with Richard and Sally during the production run as the lady in my life at that time was the Production Assistant for the show.. Great fun.. I really must take a look in the mirror... or, maybe not.

@@stuviewtv Indeed.. It was a fun time. I was living on my boat on the Thames just below the studio, my girlfriend was the PA working with Peter Frazer-Jones. I would sit in on some of the productions.. pub fun was at the Tide End Cottage, occasionally The Anglers, (where we would on occasion have to go searching for Tommy Cooper).. Yootha had an amazing talent for telling funny stories from her life.. sad ending for her. Lots of partying around that time, Sally was involved with the son of the owner of the boatyard, I was the Yacht Broker. The last time I bumped into Sally was just off Oxford St, I was riding my BMW R100RS, I offered to give her a lift but having only one helmet she declined, not wanting to drop me in it.. I wouldn't have cared.. Great to look back on it all.. Would love to bump into the lady in my life at that time, catch up on life... she'd be amazed. Man About the House and George and Mildren were very popular and loved in Spain. I don't know in the rest of Europe. Was it shown in the US? I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. At least they made a good remake with John Ritter.

I saw Paula Wilcox in an episode of "Green Green Grass" - y'know - the spin-off from Only Fools and Horses (get a quiz done about that Stu- c'mon, hurry up now). What a very attractive and beautiful lady she is.

The sad part is the man about the house , dutch version had an eerie sad resmblance with the characters of Yootha yoyce and Brain Murphy . Where youtha die way to young , the actress playing the dutch character of mrs roper . also passed away way to soon .

Richard O'Sullivan was a very talented, versatile actor, as was seen when he switched from playing the likeable and clownish Robin Tripp to playing the dastardly Dick Turpin. ( a series I would like to see again). Unfortunately, ill health took its toll on him at a relatively early age including having a stroke. I recently saw him in the film The Nun Story (1959) where he has a short clip playing Audrey Hepburn's brother and gets a peck on the cheek from her - lucky man! Should have mentioned his classic role though, in the credits, of Dr Bingham in the Doctor in the House series. Worth mentioning Roy Kinnear, an immensely talented actor, who unfortunately was killed in a riding accident whilst filming in Spain. He was a very funny comedy actor but had tremendous depth and was equally at home playing Shakespeare. As for Sally Thomsett, well she was my schoolboy crush ( as I'm sure she was for many pubescent young men at the time!)

Brian Murphy got his own BBC TV sitcom in 1982.. L For Lester about a happless driving instructor who on the instructions of his bank manager who also as an investor in his driving lesson business asks Lester to avoid making his wife pass her test as he doesn't want his hopeless scatterbrained wife driving his Rover !

I always felt cheated that they brought in Robins brother to marry Chrissie at the end. It is strange that Norman Eshley also played a married man cheating on Chrissie in an earlier episode. When they made George and Mildred, they could of had Paula Wilcox play his wife. As it was funny again the Norman Eshley played Mr Fourmile and they didn't noticed he was married to Chrissie previously. Such is TV land.
