The "Rod" you speak of, is called a Truss rod. It runs partially the length of the neck to help keep the neck straight. It can also be tightened and loosened to adjust the neck. It doesn't run through the body of a guitar at all. So it came in no contact at all with Jake, when Honky hit him. Jake was getting F'd up for years and years before this incident. Jake was a typical addict, and lied about the injury!

You always hear the whole 'fake wrestling ' angle, but as I get older and hear all the great shoots, I have so much respect for these guys. If you think about it, they are 100% athletes. Hardcore athletes. To learn how to not hurt someone, make your opponent look good, sell gimmicks, sell yourself, brutal work schedule, insane pressure to maintain your level of entertainment, promos, life, just I could go on and on. Honky Tonk Man is top tier stuff. The guitar, the dancing, just great memories. I enjoy all these shoots. Hearing how these great stories go down is entertaining. I been sitting in front of my TV the last few days listening to these podcasts. Bruce Prichard is one of my favorites to hear recall stories. JR is close second but Bruce is in deep and stated there. He has something most lack.

Honky Tonk Man was one of the best heels possible. Hated him. Wanted to see him get his ass kicked and that’s a heel. Even though smarks and Meltzer fans have ruined wrestling, if WWE could get Honky Tonk man to teach their workers on how to be a real heel, it could get better. But the Meltzer fans would probably ruin that too.

Love the respect given to Bobby Eaton in the first few minutes of the show. I get why Eaton was probably never hired by the WWE, Vince may not have liked the Midnight Express, and Bobby would have probably not joined the WWE after he became a solo performer due to WCW offering set contracts, back when the WWE weren't offering that kind of contract. But it was great hearing Bruce pay Eaton those compliments. Although i was never a fan of Honky Tonk, he did the job he was hired to do as a heel in WWE. Great show as they all always are 💪👍
@jasonthefilmguywaters9734

@cpk1994 Like i said, Bobby probably wouldn't have gone to the WWF, given him telling Cornette and Stan he couldn't afford to give up his $125,000 per year contract at WCW. And hiring Stan Lane without Bobby isn't the same as hiring The Midnight Express. I'm not saying i know anything for a fact, but I'm leaning to Eaton probably not wanting to go to the WWF due to his comments he made when Stan and Cornette told him they were going.

Warrior couldn't effectively work a slow paced match with htm at summerslam and be a believable challenge for Hogan at WM6. I tend to believe HTM's side on that. Without a squash match against HTM, his push wouldn't have been as believable. Also, there aren't many people saying how great warrior was at taking care of them. The longer you were in the ring with him, the greater the chance for injury.
@D2Kprime
@D2Kprime 3 жыл бұрын
@@raulo19999 "At the time" Warrior was still very green so working long-matches wasn't a good-idea. After working with Rude and Savage the Warrior got much better in the ring. People love to talk about his shortcomings, but never want to talk about his gifts or the progress he made as a performer both in the ring and on the mic. This title change had NOTHING to do with priming him for Hogan as Wrestlemania VI was almost two years from the date Warrior defeated the Honky Tonk Man. The decision for Hogan to drop the title to Warrior came very late in 1989 when they realized that A. Warrior was outdrawing Hogan in some places and... B. Hogan got a gig to go film _Suburban Commando._
@raulo19999
@raulo19999 3 жыл бұрын
@@D2Kprime Vince was trying to give him a push to see where it might go not because he already had the idea for WM6. Savage had already been in the business 15 years and was a top babyface at that time alongside Hogan. Hulkamania had a shelf life and was getting close to the expiration date. The idea was to build him up to see if he could carry the company because nobody's gonna last forever and you want to have a backup. Hogan already had Rocky 3 and No Holds Barred (for whatever that's worth). In 88 it wasn't a far fetched idea that Hogan may want to explore tv and movies a little more. Also, warrior had no titles up to that point so to get him over he had to have some convincing wins or he would never be seen as someone near hogan's or Savage's level. As far as talent/gifts, he had charisma and steroids. Same as Hogan but Hogan was taller, larger, and at least he had coherent promos. Warrior could have been so much better than Hogan and had a much longer career if he cared enough to improve his ringwork and be respectful of the business and especially the people in it because the fans bought it for a short time. Instead, he chose to be a mark for himself.

I seen him at every aspect, hear him now, here and every time he really gets to every nerve. Like I almost know his actions before he does it. Maybe that's why honestly why he made such a name in a business where getting just that natural reaction is a key prerequisite. Good job. It could have been Macho and Ebersols idea to pull the IC off of Tonk. Vince tells Ebersol whatever u decide for SNME is fine. Ebersol sends limo for Macho and liz. They meet without Tonk. The next day Honk is told in the famous meeting that Vince ignored him in. Then, Tonk, says no way!!!!

Weight does not always equal strength. Carbon-fiber for instance doesn't weigh as much as steel, yet is stronger. Truss rods are made of steel and let's arrange for a 220-pound wrestler to whack *YOU* in the back of the neck with one and see how well *YOU* fair afterwards. Jake's neck was already jacked-up, but that guitar-shot finished the deal. Much like the Seth Rollins buckle-bomb on Sting. The buckle-bomb was the final-nail of a career of abuse in the ring for Sting. Wasn't Seth's fault. He was just the at the wrong-place at the wrong-time.
