Back in 1983, Hulk Hogan was Plan C. Plan B was for a Von Erich, probably Kerry, to become WWF World Champion instead of Backlund. (Plan A in late '82 was for Superstar Graham to get his revenge and later turn babyface like some say he should have in '78, but that was scuppered when he turned up as Bald Karate Man.)

There is a class of guys for whom history has been rewritten by rivals leaking to Meltzer to denigrate them, jealous colleagues running them down in books and interviews, and just a ton of bullshit...Kerry is near the top of that list. His life and career was tragic, but he was one of the biggest stars of the 80's boom and if not for all the tragedy and personal shortcomings, he would have been even bigger...and no, he was not a perpetual fuck up in the ring, and no, David was not the real star of the family

There really wasn’t a big match left after that and it showed during Warrior’s reign. Hogan already cleared out the whole heel factory.

Warrior had the belt taken off him because of the Gulf War, otherwise he'd have had it until Mania or beyond. There's too much bullshit about Warrior not being able to carry the ball. Just because business is not at a historical peak, doesn't mean you've failed. Vince just wanted to exploit the war. Warrior and Savage had the last laugh at 7 though.
@thechosenones43754 жыл бұрын
What we learn here is that it wasn't that Warrior wasn't working - Bruce clearly states that the idea was for Hogan to main event against a heel at WM7 from the beginning. So they never pushed Warrior. Logically, it should've been Warrior/Taker or Warrior/Savage at WM7.
@wooobenny7 ай бұрын
WM7 is a bit early for taker even though he did get to the top very fast. I know it was unheard of to do the multiway matches at the time (and warrior/savage on its own did work so it could have still existed seperately) but imagine their massive coliseum show for WM7 working because you get either -- champion warrior v hogan v savage v earthquake v rude v (I guess you could still do slaughter and have even other bad guys like rude be against his antics, slaughter vs the world type thing, or i guess this could be taker or even iron sheik maybe, idk someone to make it a 6 way but obv this last person isn't a main player) or savage/warrior stays separate and heel champ rude (won it exactly how slaughter did at rumble) v hogan v quake (and probably vs a 4th but even a 3 way does the huge odds against hogan thing again that they always liked). I feel like those create a lot more spectacle and tie many existing issues together more than making a military conflict into a wrestling angle with a main player being a guy we hadnt hardly seen in 7+ years.

Hogan didn’t wanna work with Rude because he thought he was like a Tasmanian devil. Bruce yet AGAIN lying and leaving stuff out. He’s a great wrestling mind but not everything he did is everyone else’s fault. If he’s gonna be so defensive and secretive don’t do the show. Remember this is the same guy that tries to still defend the Red Rooster gimmick

I love this PPV but as a kid it was the first time I realized wrestling might not be as real as I thought. I just remembered thinking how can Hogen survive two splashes from the Earthquake when just a few months ago one splash put Hogen in the hospital? I still refer to it as the moment Hulk Hogen ruined my childhood.

Vince had great heels that couldve been world champ: rude, dibiasi, perfect. All those guys were top money drawing heels that would've been great opponents for hogan and warrior.
@GG-ju5mi4 жыл бұрын
Warrior got old feuds (Savage, Rude) unlike Hogan who always got the fresh awesome heel. Don't get me wrong Savage and Rude are one of the best but Warrior already had his Feuds with those guys so his Championship run wasn't given the full opportunity it should have had in my opinion!!!

The truth is that tugboat never got over. Nobody cared about him. Tugboat only got over when he became typhoon. Having big boss man there made more sense because he was over and on the rise. I like rick rude but he and hogan would not been a good match. I don't know why Conrad is so obsessed with that.
@butch54192 жыл бұрын
Right… I could see if they used Boss Man and had him turn on Hogan… coulda been the WM7 main event

Why does Conrad keep asking about Hogan and Rude? Several previous times on this show it's been stated that Hogan didn't like or trust Rude and wouldn't work with him. The reason? Rude wouldn't kiss his ass and stood up to him.
@theyinkaquadri4 жыл бұрын
My theory is probably after that one match they had against each other in the Boston Garden in early 1988, where Rude -to me - kinda stiff Hogan with a shot to the head with the wooden chair, Hogan said, “Nah, I’m good.”

I was a huge fan in the early nineties and lost interest after attitude era ended. Women's wrestling got me back into the WWE. Smackdown has 3 amazing female wrestlers in Bayley, Sascha Banks, and Alexa Bliss. What do you think of building a stable (the four horsewomen, needs a better name and can't see Charlotte Flair as ringleader.) consisting of these 3 and Mandy Rose with Alexa bringing in Bray Wyatt and Mandy bringing in Otis to develop a storyline that causes Otis to cash in his money in the bank against Bray.

imagine how good of shape the show would be if the women were actually as good as marketed and they didnt just botch out every match and cry every loss. sasha banks is my favorite person in wwe it just sucks the womens wrestling is still bad and graded on a scale. the marketing makes ppl take it seriously at least

Was The Big Bossman injured here? He referees Jake vs Bad News and is in Hogans corner against Earthquake but not in a match. I also read he was supposed to be against The Million Dollar Man at Summerslam 90 does anyone know if thats true? Was the match announced on WWF television and then pulled?

Was really looking forward to this one but very disappointed with an unenthusiastic Bruce. Highlight of the show was when Bruce loosened up for 10 seconds with a Dusty impersonation. 2 hours is a terrible effort for such a great PPV. Bruce jobbed out on this one.

Lol @ the Luger comment. I know you Bruce wasn't watching NWA/WCW at that point all that much, but Luger was red-hot in the ring from 88-91, and having great matches even with washed up Tommy Rich & Dan Spivey.
@doubleg602 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I was shocked when he said that about Luger in that time frame. Luger was like the number 3 guy back then behind Sting and Flair, that's my opinion, but I was also a child back then when I watched NWA/WCW, USWA, WWF etc. What is your opinion on Luger's place in the company at the time? Because I definitely agree with you, he was red hot back then
