I'm in my 40s now and I wish I would have started dressing my age in my 30s instead of belatedly doing so when I turned 40. I immediately noticed people taking me more seriously and treating me better when I switched from hoodies, baseball caps, and joggers to sweaters, dark-wash denim, and dress boots. Great video!

Yea I realized this just before I turned 30 years old (28 to be exact). It took me 2 years to really afford a whole new wardrobe and adjust to wearing suits everyday. i donated all my past clothes,sneakers,baseball caps, backpacks,graphic tee’s, hoodies, etc. i don’t do it for others but for myself and my self respect.
@adamsmith879710 ай бұрын
I absolutely agree with you! I've also noticed that people treat me with more respect, whether at a pub, shop, public transit, etc. The best thing is, is that I simply dress more "smart casual," which is just a step above "casual." Amazing, what basic things like a wool overcoat, tweed sports coat, sweater, dark denim, dress shirts, and leather shoes/boots in versatile/neutral colours can up your style so much with a little bit of effort!

Currently working on retiring the graphic tees and elevating the shoe game, but that takes time and thought to not throw money away. As for fit that is the biggest thing that plagues men's fashion. Even though at time of writing the baggier look is in, it's built around men with average or very often slim/slender build. If you have a physique in the middle or on the thinner side fashion is going to be a breeze for you, but many of us get some size in our twenties. For some it's flat out weight gain, for many others (especially starting around 2016-2018) we have found exercise and weight lifting. Those Levi's 501s that fit the model loosely are going to be painted on to the guy who squats 100lb more than he weighs. So many brands want to make slim fit shirts to accentuate the torso, but if you've built your chest and arms at all you'll be strangled by that shirt. When we get to our late twenties one perk we lose from late teens to mid twenties is being able to easily grab clothes off the rack and maybe 1 or 2 adjustments to have a usable item to wear. You need to actually try clothes on and try different fits and cuts to make sure it's JUST right. It may be tedious but the payoff of looking good while also having a larger physique is worth it.

Just discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago. Can't get enough of them! In this video, you discussed shoes. I'm over 50 years old and have plantar fasciitis. This restricts my choice of footwear. Basically, I have to wear either extremely comfortable dress shoes, which are really ugly, or sneakers/tennis/running shoes. I wear a suit every day to work. I have a varied collection of sneakers/tennis shoes, with all sorts of colors ranging from purple to red to neon yellow to neon green to classic black (Vans skateboard shoes) to blues and even orange colored sneakers. Some of these sneakers give my overall look a certain "pop" to it. In your estimation, Antonio, what is your rule to wearing sneakers/tennis/running shoes with suits? Are there some looks I can pull off or do you prefer that I avoid them when wearing suits? I sometimes wear my nice dress shoes to work, but then quickly slip on sneakers when not in front of executive company.

For several years, shoe manufacturers have made 3 major changes: - there are some retro models, which unfortunately also have retro sizes (height, width.. i.e. narrowness) and "retro comfort", from the time when they didn't know how to make shoes - some models are too fashionable - they also have different broken sizes to look more fashionable - they changed - most of them - the way they put on the heel, so most of the versions come off my foot like slippers, even if they are the right size. Before, you could take 2 sizes bigger and still not fall off your foot. Having said that, it's hard for me to find shoes, and elegance is even harder.

As someone who's 46, this is going to be a *COMPLETE* mindset change. I've NEVER liked the things that are considered a proper fit. • I've always liked my jeans loose fitting (I hate it when anything jacks into my crotch). I wonder if tailors or something can help in a search for good fitting jeans? Because the first pair I came across in awhile a couple years ago...wasn't nearly as good a fit as anyone thought, including me!! • When it comes to dress shirts, I've always had to go a size larger simply because the correct size would choke me hard when buttoned up. (When I was in AFJROTC in highschool, I literally had to demonstrate the issue to both teachers...when they saw how the shirt that otherwise was the right size had choked my neck, they made me get outta it FAST. I've never seen anyone that freaked out about it before.) • Shoooes?? This is one to take in heavy consideration, it's definitely almost time to invest in a fresh pair!! • Tee shirts...ehhh. I've done well with solids and with graphics. Then again, I've lost one graphic tee (a navy blue shirt with the 80s style Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on it, logo and all) to the laundry shrinking it to underwear fit levels and then ultimately damaging it, and another one (a light blue Pokémon shirt featuring all nine forms of Eevee arranged in a 3x3 layout) is headed down the same path. Colors that get compliments are blue, black, yellow, "silver" (gray), green, white, purple, and even red...and I'm not a big fan of red, but since it works...

7:05 and what if you have a problem with your feet? for work I have to stand up for long periods and Ive tried all kinds of shoes, even expensive shoes that are suppossed to "fit like a glove" Ive tried different insoles (of course all this consulting a physician) and all "solutions" simply didnt solved the problem, some worked a bit less worse than others, but whatever I did I still end up feeling pain at the end of the day. BUT running shoes dont cause this problem, I buy the most sober running shoes and use those for work and everyone seems to be ok with that, but I wish I could find some more elegant shoes that I could wear in an elegant party maybe dance without any pain, Im even thinking on ordering custom made boots with special made soles, expensive yes but I guess is the only way, like those military boots that really are running shoes but in boot format. i dont know.

Exactly, it's more about personal taste. I come from a different ethnic background than Antonio, and men do not dress like this from where I come from. However, I will concede that I've never been into the street style and clothes most guys from my community like to dress in. I like a lot of tips he gives, but I am really against imposing unnecessary rules on people. Antonio is a suit and sports coat kinda guy. That's nice, but everybody doesn't like the stuffy look. If a darker pair of denim jeans is more grown up looking on a man, than why isn't a darker denim jacket the same?
@mickeyconnor830 Жыл бұрын
I think a dark denim jacket looks great, if you wear it correctly. The fit must be on point, and function needs to make sense. I wear one with my usual work attire: chinos, chelseas, and a long sleeve shirt (sometimes under a v neck sweater that shows the collar). It's chilly this time of year, but a well-fitting denim jacket isn't big or bulky, and neither is it inappropriately warm for Texas winter. That said, I also have a dark blue peacoat and a tan leather jacket (which matches some of my boots) for colder days, and a checkered scarf which matches both. How one wears these articles in conjunction* with one another makes all of the difference, so trying out different things is never a bad strategy.

I made a promise to myself long time ago, that I will never walk in crocks, flipflops and loafers. I'm almost 40 and I'm still keeping that promise. Loafers with shorts are making my stomach turn upside down, I'm sorry :D that's a grandma look imo

Hopefully this is the year the resurgence of the oversized/baggy trend dies hard.

I do wish you and Aaron would not be too critical of the 90’s fashion. EVERYTHING and EVERYONE wore baggy clothes. All the stores (those that targeted both Caucasians, Hispanics, and African Americans) had the same styles. I chuckle and smile when I see old pictures because we were all dressed the same, the music was awesome, and times were simpler. Lastly, I remember back in the 90’s there wasn’t a ton of jean options in terms of fit…so don’t be too hard on yourself. .

Is 1:28 supposed to be him looking terrible? Because all I see is a young sporty-dressed man built for that weather and it's not that cringe to me...🤔

He'll switch out the pictures and titles in a day, he nearly always does. It's a "click me" gimmick. You're talking about it, right? 😉

I personally love the fact baggy jeans are making a comeback. Way better than the skinny jeans craze of the 2010s
@garmtpug Жыл бұрын
You don't need to go skinny nor baggy. There's the middle ground of "well fitting jeans" which are neither to baggy nor super tight. Baggy looks just young and sloppy and skinny just look tacky and old fashioned.

Maturity level between ages of late 20s/30s and 18 to 22 is huge. I was surprised to hear you say that a lot of single guys were interested in girls that were not their age.

They can’t get women their age so they need to date younger. I am 18 and I know so many 18-20 year old girls who make fun of late 20s men trying to date them.

@@Silverswitch1 as a 29 year old, why would I date a woman my age?
@Silverswitch1 Жыл бұрын
@@MrLifeUnderTheScope most young women just don’t date. They may not be dating men their age but they also aren’t dating older men.

Please, please, please never wear loafers with shorts and a polo. It’s a form of abuse to those around you 😂

You care so much about your look, grooming and clothes, then why don't you fix your teeth as well? I don't mean to be disrespectful, it's just an honest question (here in Brazil we care a lot about our teeth and getting them straight).

You had me until the loafers. Never could take a man in loafers seriously, especially while wearing a suit. Just looks silly.
