I have one suit with a vest, but I rarely wear it unless I want to look very formal.

You have articulated the history of vests or waistcoats with panache and finesse. Breathtakingly amazing in my books and as a lady, a gentleman in a vest or waistcoat is echt dapper and debonair in spades. Oozes a sprinkle of regality or aristocratic to a certain quantifiable extent. Should express a huge appreciation to the titular character Thomas Shelby as well as the rest in peaky blinders for popularizing this clothing article immensely with flair.

I feel like the vest (or maybe they count as a Gilet) is still quite popular in Australia, as sometimes a jacket/sloppy joe/jersey is far too hot to wear, but a vest will do nicely between 15°-20°. I would notice the older blokes at the pistol range often wore vests with suspenders, because when they had their holsters on, they naturally lost their right pant pocket, making up for it with the pockets on their vests.

I've been bringing back wearing the vest at my work. My work is more on the professional/casual side, almost no one wears a suit, except for me at special events. Recently I did a couple of presentations wearing a vest/tie combo and got a huge amount of compliments on it. It's another go to in my style portfolio.

Central heating? If you were poor, a vest could be made from a coat that was beyond repair.

Suspenders for support and comfort and belt to hold the pants in place and hold my flashlight and multitool. I've also had a belt fail.

I'm a barber and in my barbershops my dress code is shirt and tie and waistcoat (vest). It gives a more upscale formal look in the shop. The style is the barber's choice.

This is the RMRS I'm looking for. A bit of deeper understanding and history. 👍 We have enough teenagers tell us "wear this crap, or that uglier one but even more trendy". 😎

I have some bib-fronted vintage dress shirts (only from the 1970s) and the bib/textured section only goes about halfway down so you need to have the waistcoat to hide the lower part of the shirt. These are for black tie obviously not work :)

I do wear a vest, I come from northern part of India (western Himalayas) winters get really cold here, I have a few waist coats made up of wool. It helps me keep my core warm and I found em really comfortable.

Proud owner of six waistcoats myself. I wear a uniform at work, but on the odd occasion where I'm there but don't have to be in uniform, I'm almost always wearing a vest and have always gotten compliments on my outfit. They're a great layering piece and I think just look great. My next suit will be a three piece suit for sure.

I’ll be honest; I wear a waistcoat to hide some of my gut in my shirt. A waistcoat allows me to still wear my dress shirts without the hint that the buttons of the shirt are struggling to hold on 😂. Sizing up would create too much room in the arms/shoulders. Once I lose the weight, the waistcoat can be adjusted in the back to bring it in to fit my slimmer waist. Waistcoats can style you through different sizes 👍🏼.

I've worn a vest as part of my Navy formal Mess uniform and have been keen on incorporating vests into my civilian work wear (maybe even with a pocket watch). Being in that part of Australia where summer temps regularly hits over 100F but winter gets down to the low 20s F makes for somewhat of a challenge. Call me odd, but I like the tweed look for suits/vests and the vests worn in the Lord of the Rings series also hold an appeal to my country origins.
