Looking for ways to straighten your natural hair without causing heat damage? Me too, that's how I ended up here. I've never had any type of roller set done to my hair professionally or DIY-ing-ly. Granted we have some practicing and perfecting to do, I'm pretty optimistic about continuing to learn how to do my own silk wraps, silk presses and roller sets.

Nice job! Using a flat iron defeats the purpose. Next time when you roller set your hair, use thinner sections. Make sure you smooth out the hair with a comb while rolling your hair. Be sure the hair is saturated. This will smooth out the hair much more. Remember everyone hair density is different; therefore you may need to roll thinner sections at a time.

You did good! As a stylist I'd suggest just perfecting the roller, make sure it's nice and tight but doesn't hurt ^.^ and if you going for the whole silk press experience then don't use that round brush I think I understand why you did use it but when the hair is hot it can form to what you using kinda like curling the hair on a very small scale so a rattail comb is the way to go just add the tension with your hand (pull just a bit) and I love your color!

Just needs smoothing and more tension at the base. A small roller and section would help in achieving that.
@Righteousqueen12

The section shouldn’t be as wide as the roller. Look at Tress to Impress roller set video and she will show you how to get your roots straighter with how you set them. She didn’t roll them straight out but flat against the scalp. Also, use slightly smaller rollers, it will all flatten out when you Saran Wrap it in the end

Hi first off, you are so pretty & have beautiful hair! My suggestion would be to have your hair soaking wet and apply lots of styling foam to it before wrapping it. Large bobby pins will hold it in place more. The more textured your hair, the more foam that’s needed! That way, you won’t need to flat iron the crinkles
@zaluptiousnonya355

Maybe when u went back under the dryer, you should use the cool air, not the heat. You could tell if it worked when your wrap came apart after you took the plastic off.

Before I do a roller set, I usually pull my hair back into a low ponytail, using a Bristol brush to slick back and letting it dry. I find this helps straighten my roots a bit. I only re-wet my hair, avoiding the roots when I'm rolling the hair in the rollers. I don't put any heat in my hair but I mostly have 3B hair but it might help you out

Girl, was that really your first time wrapping your hair? You did an outstanding job! I still cannot wrap my hair after decades of trying. Your hair came out beautiful. Did you ever tryin using hourglass tension rollers? They will stretch your roots along with the length of your hair, so you may not need to use an iron for the roots.

@@blackbird8010 a couple things : - the longer your hair the more weight on your curls so it looks like less shrinkage - when you first first cut out relaxers The hair that’s growing out is something called scab hair and tends to be more course and more dry than what your natural texture is think of it as your hair going through a healing stage

yes mam- We used orange juice cans in the 70's. just juice cans+ Dippity-doo+ huge bobby-pins and a linen dish towel. We Stacked the rollers by placing roller at scalp THEN rolling hair onto roller, pin it down, take next section, roll from root, roll over to end up sitting on first roller. pin together. The height straightens hair. ( we used to bow to the ironing board, put a linen towel or pillowcase and use a clothes iron! but alas, the iron could not remove the friz in humid weather so juice cans and Dippity-doo were a thing. You are so cute. thanks for sharing.

As a hairstylist, I'll say roller sets are not damaging to the hair. And sitting under the dryer is not damaging bc it's indirect heat, sort of like sitting in the sun. I would say, if you want to leave the flat iron out of it, you'll be better off and with the correct technique and tension, can get the hair super straight without direct heat. If you do want to add the flat iron, it should be ceramic plates. They are not as hot or get the hair as silky but it's better for your strands. I say wash and roller set every week for a clean scalp. And if you do use the flat iron, only use it, once a month or every other wash set. And it doesn't need to be at 400° or 450° to work. So you know. Especially if you did the roller set first.

You did a GREAT job for a first time. May I suggest that next time you spray the heat protectant on after your hair is set before you go under the dryer, which will protect your hair from the heat of the hot dryer. ❤️
@nyquitacharles9146
@nyquitacharles9146 11 ай бұрын
She doesn't need to do that bc two things, 1. Nirobi styling foam has heat protectant qualities in it. And 2. Sitting under the dryer will not give you heat damage bc it is an indirect heating source. Only direct heat gives you damage. And that's usually from overuse or improper use from lack of knowledge. In most cases, anyway.

if your first roller is pulled forward so that baby hairs can be pinned onto roller then pin roller to scalp leaving roller forward a little more down on your hair. It is healthier for your hairline. Side ones go straight down , over extending up; not rolled backwards. you'd get 6 from crown to nape of neck straight back and two on each side pf head: 1 top to just above ear and 1 from top of ear down. all rolled vertically not from front to back: Good job

This is my opinion... If you're just trying to get it a little straight. You're doing a fine job and the direction is not going to make any difference. Once you start to wrap it around your head then you can go and whatever direction your hair grows or the hair stylist wraps it. A couple years ago I purchased a dryer to do the same thing and have not used it. I hope it still work. 😂 Thanks for giving me the inspiration to straighten out my hair. I don't like people touching my hair and I don't have a regular stylist that I go to. I love the Brazilian blowout though my hair does not like their products and I don't like how they handle my hair. Several months ago I bought this to the owner's attention who had no idea the shampoo assistance was manhandling my strands. She always styled my hair with the roller set and trim. And her prize is excellent considering my long length. But seeing your video has given me encouragement. 🤗👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

⭕️ The middle part you start from the back, to avoid having the rollers on the way while working on the next one. ⭕️ They then each one from the back will become something you can use to hold the one infront off to hold tighter with . ⭕️ you need to keep combing and brushing while rolling it tight to stretch it as much as possible, The idea finish this while you’re hair is still dripping wet, Also use Bobby pins to hold any unstretched piece of hair that didn’t roll bone stretch to the roller, Remember again You want it to lay down superflat with the roller as that how it will dry., brush it again if you seen it curled up while it’s still wet at any moment you see any flex. ⭕️ Also try as much as possible to keep your hair off products to get more bouncy light hair when you take them off. ⭕️ The shampoo brand you been using have one to strip any residue off of your hair, ask the beauty store for it next time ( white bottle ). ⭕️ The idea is to set your hair tight wet , for it to dry that way without the need for head. ⭕️ More water less products . Nice video : good vibe

You did a great job. You missed a step. After you took down the wrap, you should have flat ironed it a little; but everything you did before that was correct. Excellent job.
