Exactly. I was in 7th grade in ’67... everything was long bangs, teased hair lots of hairspray... eyeliner, more eyeliner and matte, just like you say...my first lipstick was "peppermint kiss" a powder pink. I begged my Mom at 12 y o and she gave in.
