Ok, one thing I learned recently is that adding layers for thin (low density) hair actually does wonders for fullness. The trick is to not layer all the hair, but only the top portion, so you keep some of the density at the ends while getting the benefit of movement on top. There are a bunch of KZbin videos on it. I did this with my hair and it looks SO much better.

It will work only once or twice. After that you have to grow your hair again.

@КсенияПолтавец-ж7э7 ай бұрын
They will not grow significantly enough, just a couple centimetres. and each time the hairdresser will cut new hair, not the hair she/he previously. So after a while you end up with too much growing out layers and thin ends.

Just a personal opinion but i'm so over layers. I tried having layers for years and it never looked good. I finally have long one length hair and my hair never looked better. Also with my hair type (fine hair but lots of it and mostly straight with just a hint of a wave pattern sometimes) i have a lot more volume with no layers. Layers make me look like i have hair loss. But i have also seen people who look good with layers. Definitely depends on your type.

@@susannpatton2893 Does it cling to your head with no volume? How do you manage quick to grease roots? Especially if you go to the gym and such. I have been wanting to grow my baby fine and not the thickest kind of hair super long, but I can’t stand how it clings to my head with no bounce and unevenness of the grease level from root to ends
@deecee70427 ай бұрын
I also have baby fine and decently thin hair. I also do a blunt cut. I also find some highlights (if you are quick to grease) does wonders for the grease effect and the volume appearance. Making your hair a little less sleek on a subtle level (without over doing it with any damage) makes an appearance of more volume and density. Balayage can look bad, ends slightly drier and more volume appearance, and top is healthy with more grease, thus more flathead effect. And darker colors are slimming, lighter colors make a larger effect (this is true of clothing and hair). If you are lighter skinned, the lighter hair can make any visible scalp less noticeable, added bonus. You don’t have to go too light either, can always do highlights and a permanent hair dye thereafter to bring the highlights down to a bit more of a natural level, same effect.

I quit going to hairdressers because when I ask for layers, they leave the ends of my hair feeling too thin. I like a blunt cut with face framing layers, and I do that on myself, sometimes a little light long laying in the back. Doesn't matter what my face shape is I know how I feel in a certain haircut.

The tiny subtlest long layers that are quite long relative to the length can work for some movement. I also find some highlights (if you are quick to grease) does wonders for the grease effect and the volume appearance. Making your hair a little less sleek on a subtle level (without over doing it with any damage) at the root makes an appearance of more volume and density. I have a slightly long face and years ago I wanted to add some width and volume with a bob. But my hair is very fine textured and wavy just from the lenght, so it resulted even more flat! Also having a narrow forehead makes my hair lay just on my face hiding even more my features, and layers also tend to have the same effect if too short. However I don't mind longer layers, but since I'm starting to appreciate my strong jawline I would do the opposite to emphasize it instead!

I have a square/ round face and any length shorter than to my arm emphasizes the size of my face. The best hair type is to have it down and thrown to the front to cover the sides of the face. The only thing I can do to not look good in long hair is to curl or wave hair, the same effect - it shows up the sides of the face.

Awesome video! You always choose such great examples to describe your meaning. And you just explained why I've always liked myself better with long hair. I could never really put a finger on it, but now I know that its because I have broad shoulders and a short neck with fine hair. The length balances me out thankfully. Plus the width of my lower third is narrow. Always thought I looked terrible with short hair.

As someone with thick wavy hair, layers are the best thing that happened to my hair. As a kid, my mom would keep my hair boy short so I started growing it when I was in 5th grade. For years I had lower back length hair that couldn't be tamed so it was always in some braid. A few months ago I decided to cut my hair mid back length and get layers, and not only is my hair easier to take care of but the ends curl beautifully while the top remains straight

My hair is fine/med but thick & heavy. It has a natural S curve beachy wave to it if layered. I just don't have the spoons to deal with blow drying & straightening or curling & just let it be whatever it's going to be that day. Longer layers cut in a more vertical way & thinning scissors really help to keep it from being too flat on top & puffy on the bottom (triangular) I'm not wearing it as long as I once did (waist length) but I still keep it slightly longer than shoulder length. I tried straight across bangs to widen my long face but that shortened my upper third even more, so now I just have some cheekbone grazing layers in the front that look nice if I wear my hair up or brushed back. I really admire sleek, smoothe hairstyles on others but dislike them on me. You shouldn't have to fight your hair's natural texture all the time, a good haircut is key.

I agree to start mewing if you are insecure about your chin. I would do a half up half down hair style (experiment with straight or curled if you need) and then have two wavy/curled bang pieces out that stop right below your chin

I wish I could do layers. My hair is coarse, very thick, with a slight wave, and layers make it poofy. Like 90’s news anchor poofy. And the visual effect of the layers just kind of disappears. I had a haircut last year with a new stylist, and she was almost in tears because the layers just kept getting absorbed back into the volume of my hair. I wish I could do something other than a bob or an updo, but those are the only hairstyles I like on me. 😢

@IncandescentLightbulb007 ай бұрын
I’m not really sure on causation here - are you saying that cutting layers in fine hair causes breakage? I have fine hair and a lot of layers (shag haircut) and I have not even one split end and also my hair is bleached so already compromised. What I found over the years contributing to split ends are: washing hair too often, no leave in conditioner and stylers, pulling hair in wet state especially (while brushing), not tying hair in pineapple to sleep, using regular towels on hair and drying it roughly. Split ends is a cumulative effect of all of those mishaps and doesn’t really have anything to do with hair style. I’ve struggled with split hair for many years. Unfortunately when you have them all you can do is to cut that off, you can’t “repair” split ends like some brands will have you believe. But you can use conditioners filled with amino acids and protein that will help strengthen hair for the future to prevent breakage. I hope this helps :)

Perhaps styles that can prevent the shoulders from appearing broader, like darker colors, deep V-necks, nothing that adds more width to the shoulders - for example I always opt for a tank top or a form-fitting long sleeve than a looser-fit T-shirt because the sleeves on some T-shirt designs can add more width to my shoulders

I don't see advice for absence of jawline. Layers just frame my awful neck. I have a small chin on a convex profile and small jaw. Weight disproportionately goes to my throat. I don't have enough definition in my chin to have a double chin. My face almost cartoonishly is one with my neck. My face has equal thirds but I have a wide forehead, so it looks bigger. And the crown of my head is low. I feel like all of the advice negates itself. On the plus side, even when I had a boys haircut as a kid, people immediately knew I was a girl. I look very feminine with small facial features. But to have a jawline defined from my neck, I have to be under a healthy weight. I've tried makeup but at best I can only keep that up daily for 3 or 4 months. Same with up keeping hair. Give up and just accept this is it or is there a haircut that isn't going to frame my neck like layers? I feel like all layers do is draw attention to the lack of jawline.
