I agree with everything you said except for the rocking chair. Outside on your porch or patio a rocking chair can be SO NICE and serene to sit in while having your coffee or lemonade and just rock away...i love them. The definition of a stylish home is not exclusively reserved for the contemporary style. The floral and checkered pattern is timeless. English cottage style interiors are a perfect example of wonderful interiors using these patterns. The most important question is whether you like such interiors - it is a subjective matter.

Agree 99%, Valentina. The porch rocking chairs are where we differ. As a coastal New England native, whose style is somewhat similar to your own, Adirondack chairs on the lawn and white porch rockers are never viewed as dated in this region. Many of the most upscale hotels on Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and my hometown of Newport, RI grace their porches with rockers that are the most coveted seats for locals and tourists to enjoy a cocktail and gentle ocean breezes. As for those mid century brown or black rockers you pictured, I definitely agree that they are and have always been unfortunate additions to a room.

As far as bathroom rugs, I do like a small rug around the commode because it feels good on my feet while sitting. We also have heated toilet seats, which are phenomenal!

Omg! On point on everything except the lighting! I love my 1920 full heavy solid brass chandelier with its patina and my 1920 heavy real alabaster rope pendant in my interior entry. You can’t find this quality on Amazon… plus I own a 1920 craftsmen four square. Yes we have Redon kitchens bathroom and updated all the real lime plaster… oh the sconces on each side of my old brick fireplace are also period to the home. And I’m very stylish, the most stylish folks know how to blend eras…build a home that doesn’t look like we ordered it all from RH mad pottery barn and Amazon or wheresver. Yes I own all of these a west elm sofa an RH english arm chair…pottery barn vessels but I know how to blend in my vintage and antiques. And I love that color is finding its way into the best designed homes from AD to house and gardens. We don’t all need to live in beige homes. My wood paneling is wainscoting around the dining room beadboard in the mudroom and all seasons room upstairs. I painted the beadboard. But I love the warm wood tones. Anyway the most stylish people know how to juxtapose eras and items…we know how to layer…find quality items and make home feel like home.

I love when you two make videos together, you make me smile! Agree about recliners being ugly, but.... We just solved that problem! Backstory, after a marriage and a move (for me) we are now purging some of my husband's furniture and integrating some of mine into our home. He had a set of two very comfortable chairs; one of them had a huge "ottoman" in front of it, and he would sit there to read the paper. This ottoman (not really an ottoman, more of a small upholstered coffee table which was too tall, hard, and not comfortable to place your feet on) disrupted the flow of traffic. The room was unbalanced which really bothered me, but I seemed to be the only one who noticed. We ended up buying a set of beautiful chairs that actually recline, but look nothing like a recliner! Huge win! They look great and the flow of traffic is seamless...no dodging around that ugly ottoman! Now my husband loves the arrangement and the ease of movement through the space. Scale is another thing we are working on! My husband has some lovely pieces that don't fit the scale of the room, they dominate it. We are working to balance the den and guest room now. We will be moving out to do a full renovation this coming fall, but a few tweaks help for now. It is really a process to integrate two households with different tastes and styles. Sometimes it's hard to let go of "this is the way it has always been", but if we respectfully work together we can open our minds to endless possibilities that make both of us happy!
