A rambley talk about using arcs to animate 2DFX in a fun casual way.
Traditional animation is all about arcs, timing, spacing. All the fundamentals are valuable.

Thank you! If you're adding to the list of tutorial topics, here's one: ROUGHS! Rambley and Rumbley as possible, just showing how scribbley scratchy you can go through a whole scene before adding any details at all. Been a baby animator for a while now, and I messed up by starting with the details, and haven't (NOT ONCE) done any sketches/roughs before diving into a scene. This is partly because I start with a background and a character and have NO PLAN, just sorta lalalaaa it around, press play, smooth out the choppy bits, press play, more adjustments, and again and again. Especially where arcs are concerned! This Arc tutorial made me realize how much ease a little squiggle here, loop there...beforehand...it would give. Anyhow, thanks again!

This is amazing, it's really helping me find more joy in 'casual' animation, rather than mega complex stuff that 'has to look right'

The best thing about this is if you play around with this from time to time, when you need to do something harder it magically translates into better complex animation because your fundamentals are stronger.

You could also use golden ratio spiral as arc guide to make it mathematically beautiful as well

There are also Arc's that were used in the movie "Frozen" at the scene where Elsa was on the top of the hill in the snow singing her song and using her snow magic to create them before creating the bridge.

I am always reminded by the phrase "the eye being lazy loves contrast" but you can't do the same thing with timing. If your timing is off it is quick to break the flow and that has more of a negative effect on the viewer then the quality of the drawing.

If I've learned anything it's that the timing just really needs to be intentional. If you have accidental contrast - like timing boil, it looks like a mess. But moving from fast to slow or staccato to smooth with intention can make animation so rich.
